No, I grew up in Wyoming and then moved to Iowa in 7th grade. I also lived in North Carolina for several years after I graduated from HS. I moved back to Iowa City when I was 24 to attend the university. I then moved back to North Carolina at age 27 when a girl I was with went there for grad school. I came back to Iowa City a few years later when that relationship fell apart. I was actually in my last semester of school when I flew down to South America and didn't come back. So as you can see, I haven't always had my head on straight. However, I am a strong believer in Bob Frost's theory that the road less traveled makes all the difference. I am definitely very happy with my life right now.
As far as surfing goes, it has just always been something I have wanted to do, even though most of my life I was completely landlocked. Every time I saw videos of it, read about it or looked at pictures of it I said to myself, "I am going to do that one day." Now that I have done it, I have to say it is even better than I imagined it would be.There is something very magical about floating out on the ocean waiting to catch a wave, and the rush when you are riding one is hard to beat.
So no disc golf in South America? Maybe I could come down there and we could design a course... one of my fav things to do although not as often as I'd like. Bet you could make some cool ass holes with major elevation changes...
LOL I said 'ass holes'
Where in Wyoming??? I live in Casper.......
Natrona County, Represent!
One of the darkest days of my life was when my parents announced we were moving. Going from living in the shadow of Casper Mountain to the flat nothingness of Iowa was quite traumatic. There may be a lot of nothingness in Wyoming, but you always have the mountains to look at in the distance. Mountains or ocean are necessary for an ideal living situation in my mind. Having something so vast to gaze at helps you put things in perspective.
Merry Christmas!
Don't you love accidental humor? :142smilie
There is only one course listed in the PDGA directory south of Texas, and it is here in Peru. Unfortuntalely, it is way down by the Chilean border in southern Peru. I live up north. I haven't made it down there yet, but I do plan on it. I don't know much about it as I have never been able to find any reviews of it.
There wouldn't be much of a course to be made where I live as it is flat, coastal desert. However, once you get up into the mountains, or head into jungle, you could construct some frickin' amazing courses. Sometimes I am in shock when I think about the fact that I haven't thrown a disc in more than 2 years now. When I was in the States, I was hardcore. I went daily in the summer, spring and fall. I played the occasional winter round as well in the snow. I do really miss that game. I would love to have a stack of Forces and throw some big, bombing hyzers!
Do you still have your discs? If you do ship them to me and I will give you a fair price and pay for shipping. Provided you don't mind selling some or all of them.
Cheers bro,
FDC
Sorry, bro. I gave all my possessions away when I decided I wasn't coming back. The discs and related paraphernalia were much coveted. I had a nice practice basket and a great bag, too.
Hash House a Go Go,
Is it safe to say that everything has been covered?
Surfing. B+
Weed B-
Hotel living A-
Cocaine A
Are we ALL jealous that you can make a living working 5 hours a day, snort coke sometimes, surf every day and smoke super dank hash er i mean weed everyday?
A THOUSAND TIMES YES!!
I'd say those grades are pretty fair, but I do want to make something clear. I am not a complete pothead. (Not that there's anything wrong with that.) Even when I am smoking, I don't smoke every day. It is usually a 2-4 times a week thing for me, but I go on sabbaticals from time to time. For instance, I haven't consumed any psychotropic substances for almost two weeks now, I'm not going to again until my birthday at the end of January. I like to take time off to clear my mind and body. It really is all about moderation in all things. Well, except surfing. That shit needs to be often.
I went to St. Anthony's from K-2nd then transferred to Pineview. I was scheduled to start at Cy Junior, but we moved that summer to Iowa. I remember one of the things I was pissed about was that I had to go to middle school instead of junior high. I thought junior high sounded so much more sophisticated.
I'm sure I would be shocked. My dad and brother have been back a few times for camping trips in the
Tetons and have stopped in Casper. They said the town has changed a lot. I have only been back in my dreams.
Wow........I actually am a 3rd grade teacher at Pineview now.......they are going to tear it down next year and build a brand new school......
What year did you move away from Casper???
I had a poster and print framing business in the Eastridge Mall for 20 years then decided to get out of retail and use my teaching degree........My store was up by Sears and Mastercuts on the south end of the mall........Poster Gallery was the name of it from 1991-2003........then I changed the name to Picture in A Frame.........
There is a brand new St. Anthonys school now located by the safeway on CY....right behind the church...it is really nice.....
I will try to put some pictures of casper and casper mountain up here........
I really enjoyed this thread Hashish. What your doing is something I've been thinking about for a while now. Brings back memories of my early Navy days in the Med and North Africia. Was stationed in Morocco for 2 years. Couldn't appreciate it then as much as I do now tho. Used to take an hour to 2hr drive up to either Tanger or Ceuta (sp) and then it was only a relatively short ferry ride to Spain. Ended up meeting my future wife (she was a dependent of a Chief stationed there also) and we ended up honeymooning in Malaga and Torramolinus (sp), in Spain. It's hard to expalin the appeal some of those places overseas can have on you. And the cost of living makes it really nice. I'm thinking about taking the plunge one of these days myself, but it would probably be from Mexico, Central America or South America.
I don't work for or promote these guys, but I regularly get emails (haven't suscribed to their magazine yet) from 'International Living'. They do extensive research on places out of the country, especially where you can live cheaply, have great weather year-round, and have a good time. And I thank you for substantiating that for me. The emails would be well worth your read guys if you like stuff like this. I just hope I have the guts one of these days to do it; at least a vacation.
I like this thread :0074
Thanks Hashish - seems like I have said that before or maybe not
