I don't think it would have gone this far had the NFL stepped right in on Monday and fined the team for playing with balls that were not up to regulation specs.

Now it's gotten way out of hand to the point where people are going back 10 years and checking on fumbles and trying to tie both together. Wow!

AND, I may be wrong, but it sure looks like they are lying about their knowledge of the deflated balls, but that's speculation too.

One thing for sure is; they played with deflated balls that are against the rules, they got caught, and they should pay the price. No?

Where the hell is the NFL?

not really in disagreement Jack - the NFL should have put this issue to bed right away by levying some sort of fine or punishment but................

Is it possible that the reason that the NFL hasn't come out on this is that they subscribe to the theory that "any press is good press" ? As OS mentioned the SB will now be watched by many that might not have cared otherwise - and the NFL is on the tip of people's mouths all around the world - maybe a small price to pay for all of the publicity, lead-ins on national news, etc

I think all teams cheat to a certain extent and I think that most sports organizations are dirty, NCAA NFL NBA MLB FIFA you name it

Funny that this ex-Carolina GM is complaining publicly about the potentiality of NE having cheated and in the same breath mentions that numerous starters on his 2004 SB team were caught purchasing steroids from a Dr in South Carolina - so somehow it was ok for them to have been caught cheating but not ok that he "presumes" that NE "may have cheated"? were other players and teams cheating by taking/administering steroids? pretty sure they were

it is the same thing with MLB - all these assholes who won't vote for certain players for the HOF who were known steroids users is so laughable - HELLO!!!!! 95% of the entire league was on steroids!!!!!! Do these people who won't vote for Sosa or McGwire actually believe that Jeff Bagwell never took any PED's? Give me a fucking break, everyone was doing it because you had to in order to keep up with the others who were - shit, the football players at my high school in the late 80's and early 90's were taking steroids

Bottom line is this - NE may have knowingly done something wrong here, and the majority of people think that they did - but my assertion is that they simply got caught doing something that all people were likely doing at some point or another - hell Brad Johnson admitted he did the same thing in the SB - why would BJ admit that if he thought it was a really big deal? I would guess that the reason he would come out publicly and say that is because he knows that he wasn't the only one doing it

Legitimacy issues IMO plague all sports and all teams and at some point these issues will drive people away from big time sports - but NE is an easy punching bag in this situation and the NFL has (either purposefully or by virtue of being incompetent) let this thing get so out of control it isn't funny -

It definitely didn't change the outcome of the game as they clearly beat the Colts but what about the week before when they beat the Ravens on the last drive? I think they should take away the Pats AFCC title and give it to the Ravens and the Ravens play Seattle in the SB. :0003

NFL issues statement on Deflategate investigation

The NFL issued the following statement on Friday afternoon in response to inquiries about ?Deflategate?:
?Our office has been conducting an investigation as to whether the footballs used in last Sunday?s AFC Championship Game complied with the specifications that are set forth in the playing rules. The investigation began based on information that suggested that the game balls used by the New England Patriots were not properly inflated to levels required by the playing rules, specifically Playing Rule 2, Section 1, which requires that the ball be inflated to between 12.5 and 13.5 pounds per square inch. Prior to the game, the game officials inspect the footballs to be used by each team and confirm that this standard is satisfied, which was done before last Sunday?s game.
?The investigation is being led jointly by NFL Executive Vice President Jeff Pash and Ted Wells of the law firm of Paul Weiss. Mr. Wells and his firm bring additional expertise and a valuable independent perspective. The investigation began promptly on Sunday night. Over the past several days, nearly 40 interviews have been conducted, including of Patriots personnel, game officials, and third parties with relevant information and expertise. We have obtained and are continuing to obtain additional information, including video and other electronic information and physical evidence. We have retained Renaissance Associates, an investigatory firm with sophisticated forensic expertise to assist in reviewing electronic and video information.
?The playing rules are intended to protect the fairness and integrity of our games. We take seriously claims that those rules have been violated and will fully investigate this matter without compromise or delay. The investigation is ongoing, will be thorough and objective, and is being pursued expeditiously. In the coming days, we expect to conduct numerous additional interviews, examine video and other forensic evidence, as well as relevant physical evidence. While the evidence thus far supports the conclusion that footballs that were under-inflated were used by the Patriots in the first half, the footballs were properly inflated for the second half and confirmed at the conclusion of the game to have remained properly inflated. The goals of the investigation will be to determine the explanation for why footballs used in the game were not in compliance with the playing rules and specifically whether any noncompliance was the result of deliberate action. We have not made any judgments on these points and will not do so until we have concluded our investigation and considered all of the relevant evidence.
?Upon being advised of the investigation, the Patriots promptly pledged their full cooperation and have made their personnel and other information available to us upon request. Our investigation will seek information from any and all relevant sources and we expect full cooperation from other clubs as well. As we develop more information and are in a position to reach conclusions, we will share them publicly.?

The NFL needs to do something about this before everybody totally freaks!

The statistical analysis is awesome. Not only does it help when you throw a deflated ball but evidently the backs are less likely to fumble them, too. :0062

So I guess the Packers fumble more than other teams because Rodgers likes the balls hard.

Please don't fall for those bullshit numbers.
