Explain to me exactly what you would do to fix poverty. You don't want to make minimum wage a livable wage, yet you want to do away with assistance and food stamps. Basically just kill them off through starvation? Okay so genocide is one republican ideal.
How about abortion, you want to force women to have babies, yet you don't want those now burdened women to make enough money to live on, no assistance for her or the kid, and no health care or affordable insurance or pharmaceuticals either. So starve, torture them, let them suffer and die. So infanticide. Got it.
I'm guessing that free education is out of the question, yep I already know it is, so God forbid any if these kids you forced to suffer for 18 years have no chance at a job.
But luckily, we're going to subsidize the wealthy and their corporations, while giving them healthy tax breaks to make sure they get even richer.

I can't believe I'm getting involved with this Cris but here is what I'm sick of.


I realize that there are many people in America that need assistance and those that truly need that assistance I am wholeheartedly in favor of them getting it. But by damned there are so many...so fucking many able bodied people out there that are taking advantage of this to the fullest extent. I posted a story on here probably years ago about a senerio that I witnessed at a local convienence store and just this past Sunday night I have another.

So I ask Chicky what she wants for supper Sunday evening and we both agree that we'll fire up the charcoal and make some steaks. So I run over to the grocery store and load the cart with supplies and head to the checkout. The chic in front of me unloads her cart on the belt and she's got steaks, chicken breasts, seafood, deli items, ect ect ect. I"' guessing this girl was mid 20s dressed really nice with Under Armor clothes , nails done, perfect hair, hell this chic was just fucking hot. I'm thinking to myself "Damn this little young babe has her shit together and is living life!" Then it happened.


After the clerk rang all her shit up to a total of $265.38 she whips out the ole ACCESS card to pay for it! I could have just about vomited. Here is this mid 20 something girl dressed to the 9s with a whole cart load of high end groceries with a welfare card? To top it off.... When I walk out of the store she's loading these high end free groceries in a brand fucking new Ford Explorer!!!! I don't care if you are Democrat, Republican. Or just a plain idiot, but that's complete and total bullshit in my book. No one and I mean NO ONE who receives government assistance should be buying high end groceries and driving brand fucking new cars!!! People that need help need fucking food to live! Not fucking shrimp, scallops, and a fucking new Explorer! So yeah.... That totally chaps my ass!!

Do you know if she wasn't left by a shitty abusive husband and had a job but doesn't make enough to pay for everything and maybe that's the vehicle she was left in the divorce and that and her nails mean something to her? Should she suffer and be made to look like a poor person? Just saying?

No Cris, I don't know this particular womans "situation" but even if she was left by a shitty husband and left the brand new car through a divorce, are you saying its simply ok that this particular woman can go to the grocery store and buy $265 worth of high end groceries paid for by the welfare system? It's perfectly ok with you that people on assistance use that money for luxury items? I assure you this woman didn't appear to be "suffering" by any means. Like I said before I have no problem with those that actually need help to survive. What I do have a problem with is those that live beyond their means and feel entitled to what everyone else has that earned it.
My whole point here is there are way to many people receiving benefits that simply don't need it. They have it because they can get it and take full advantage of it. I may add more to this later.

You know that's a possibility because what I failed to mention was she refused to swipe the card and wanted to enter the card number manually on the CC terminal at the checkout.

Look here, PaSprint: from what you have posted here over time, I think you're probably an okay, straight thinking guy, but...

I don't think you know much about the "food stamp" (actually it's a pre-loaded debit card) system works.

Your qualify for nutrition assistance based on your income and family size. In this state, if you have zero income and a family with four children, you get the maximum, about $300/month.

I shop at Aldis from time to time because they have the best prices - Winking Owl wines for $3. I don't buy anything else there because the quality is a bit below the Publix where I buy everything else, but what fresh produce, staples and meat they sell is okay if you are hungry enough.

Most of the other shoppers there are on food stamps, SNAP, if you prefer.

Some of them are obviously disabled, some are very elderly, and, yes, some (but not most) are black or Hispanic.

They load up their carts with the cheapest foods they can find: rice, noodles, three-day old veggies and fruits, a bit of tough chicken or greasy hamburger. That's all $300/month will cover for a family.

Yes, they get something to eat, enough to keep them alive. I don't see any wine, or ice cream, or candies or other items in their carts. Aldis doesn't even sell T-bone or other prime cuts of meat.

I don't know most of those folks, or why they need SNAp assistance, but I can assure you, they do not eat high on the hawg.

You should shop with them someday at a bottom-end grocery.

Take a breath and truly think about what you wrote here. Do you "need" steaks? If course not, but you get them because they taste good. You probably even get a better cut because they taste even better. Hell, I bet you even use real butter like the folks that lived at the top of the hill in my childhood neighborhood. That's what your income allows you to do. Great. Have you honestly allowed yourself to forget when your wage didn't allow ribeyes? Every once in a while you'd get then anyway to treat yourself, right? Did you think it was irresponsible or wanton disregard for your financial situation? Do you think having a losing week gambling and getting canned soup and ramen noodles instead of steak means you lack accountability and responsibility to the greater good? People are poor and hungry, they need jobs and every once in a while a sympathetic ear and a chance.
I love you bro, I do, but take a minute to think about when you forgot who you were when you would have even considered the notion that she may have been a military wife with a husband on deployment, and you weren't mad at everyone.

I am not sure how people can deny the system is filled with flaws. Many people take advantage of it. When a guy like Sprint brings it up it doesn't help that everyone jumps on him like he doesn't want to help the people that need it.

By the new car and the clothes and the stuff she bought....don't forget a person in real need has to stretch the $300 a month to feed herself and her 4 kids so she is not probably loading up on steaks.

Maybe her husband is self employed, a contractor, works 6 months on the books and 6 months under the table. This happens all the time.

It's a shame because it gives the whole program a bad name and takes away from people who really need it.
