Florida School Shooting

I am all for more stringent gun laws. When will we get these that prevent a 19 year shooting up a school? What is not and should be slapping you in the face is the guns are not going to magically disappear. If so when? 2 years? 5 years? How many more kids die in school before then? We protect our airports, stadiums, courthouses etc. We could try and protect our kids. Not leave it open as a shooting gallery for a deranged individual. Why do you bring prayer into the discussion? Oh yea you are an atheist. What the hell does that have to do with anything. People of religion pray in these instances. You not so much. So your point is less prayer would help? Stupid

I bring prayer into the discussion because it is part of the problem. If you offer thoughts and prayers, that empty gesture helps to perpetuate the problem. "I offered my thoughts and prayers, time to move on. Did my part. What's for lunch?".
We were talking about gun control and all the children that just lost their lives because of the 2nd amendment but you decided it was time to inject some drunk driving illegal talk. That's a Hedge move. Whenever the conversation gets uncomfortable, just change the subject or blame someone else.
They just arrested two kids (Maine and Washington) who were planning school shootings. This isn't going away even though you just hope/pray it will.
You keep harping on how long it will take. Again, what if it does take five years? To me, that would be great. If we would have done it in 2010, think how many lives would have been saved by now?
But, I will ask again......why don't you, and 500,000 of your friends volunteer to watch over the 140,000 schools in America? With as many people as we have who hug their weapons, it would be self-serving, AND help the country.
Update: Police reportedly called to shooters house THIRTY NINE fucking times since 2010......

this kid had an arsenal of weapons and the police apparently visited his house 39 times since 2010.
it was easier for him to buy an AR15 than it was to buy a handgun. he couldn't legally buy a handgun but he could buy A MOTHER FUCKING ASSAULT RIFLE.

When i was in high school, more than half of the students owned rifles and or shot guns, shoulda been ripe for a school shooting...but there were none, anywhere!

I don't actually disagree with much of this.
BUT, let's be honest here.....the average person in the street should not be able to purchase an assault rifle. That's simply madness. You should have to have have months of intensive training before being allowed near one, and only then if you are in the military serving in a war zone.
Seriously, what's next....let everyone buy a Surface-to-Air missile if they want to?
