Anyone else tired of gay rights being shoved down your throat?? Gays up in arms because Target made a donation to a Republican canidate. They are demanding an equal donation to the Liberal canidate.

Freedom of speech until it steps on the toes of specific groups... How convenient. How pathetic. If any corporation chooses to fund any campaign, is it not their freedom to do so? How is it right to FORCE a corporation to match funding for anything? FORCED funding?? Really?? If Walmart gives $150,000 to support gay rights, should we then REQUIRE Walmart to also give $150,000 to the NRA? It's insanity.

So in our fight for a free society, we really just take it away from the groups we don't agree with. We are supposed to be tolerant of everyone's right to live as they see fit only if they are tolerant of specific beliefs. The "tolerant as long as they believe what I believe" kind of freedom.

You know what I think is pathetic? People who only see things through one set of eyes.

How are they forcing the corporation to do anything? This is America. You know freedom to protest and express your feelings. I guess you are against freedom.

Some of you guys crack me up.

I agree Target should have the right to donate their money to whomever they want but at the same time people have the right to voice their dissatisfaction of that choice. Just like I have a choice not to shop at Best Buy or Target anymore because they donate money to sleezeball Tom Emmer..

I should add that I do not like Emmer just because of his anti gay views.

He voted for legislation to allow pharmacists to refuse to give contraception to people if the pharmacist viewed it as unethical. Meaning selling contraception to teens..

He voted to lower the time of driving revocation for people who refused breathalyzers.. Because they may not be guilty? Really Really!! Not taking a breathalyzer is kind of like admitting guilt. Funny Emmer has had 2 DWIs. I wonder why he voted for that..

To me this guy is unethical.

Who says im against freedom? Yeah im all for freedom to protest and expression especially if its for a REAL cause.

But people who say this is a FREE COUNTRY and Gays should have all the rights of everybody else and then jump on Target for giving its money to the candidate of its choice. That is hypocritical.

Quote
""A national gay rights group is negotiating with Target officials, demanding that the firm balance the scale by making comparable donations to benefit candidates it favors. Meanwhile, the controversy is threatening to complicate Target's business plans in other urban markets."

So yes this is America. Do you think this is fair?

Essentially, you are threatening to block access to a retail store to prevent people from buying from that store by means of intimidation due to threatening posture and voiced commentary, in order to force them to pay monies to someone they have no desire to pay monies to, to benefit you and your cause. If that doesn't fit into the realm of extortion, nothing does.

Its just seems like a lot of the gay community sees freedom as a one way street. All for rights until you think differently then its how dare you feel that way.

If Target made a contribution to a Lib canidate would anyone have said anything??? It just seems the far left is always up in arms about something. Give it a rest

I agree with this 100%. I support gay rights but I do think they are hypocritical at times and just about every group is.

I disagree. They are the group being discriminated against. Of course they are upset and going to protest.

If money goes to a liberal group then I support Gibbers right to stand in front of Target and protest that its not fair and he wants money to go to his favorite neo-con candidate. :142smilie

I didn't look at the donations as discrimination towards gays/lesbians. It was a donation. I don't think they gave the money as an anti gay approach. That would be stupid. I think it is hypocritical of the gay community to assume it was. They want freedom but yet piss and moan about others freedoms.. None the less I hate Lemmon Head so I will not be supporting Target or Best Buy for supporting the neocon because of the issues I stated above. Now that gave me a new idea to the topic.. Who you really should see pist off is the mother's of MADD!!!!

I'm not saying it is discrimination. However, when you have a group that still doesn't have full rights they are going to protest anything that threatens their agenda. And rightfully so.

The point is this group has been denied rights and have been for years. They don't have the same rights that you and I have. So any action perceived against them is going to piss them off and motivate them to protest. Which is their right and I don't blame them at all. If I was gay and some huge company in my city donated to an anti-gay candidate i'm sure I would be pissed. You would too.

Oh I agree and do not blame them for protesting .. Let em protest.. I just think it is a little hypocritical but they earned the right to be I guess. All groups are somewhat hypocritical. Just like my support of the Vikings there maybe a time or two when I think a penalty against another team is justified but if it were the Vikes, I may look at it differently

I don't think they want the "same rights" as I have, they want "different rights". A gay man could marry a woman the same as I could. He just can't marry a man...but neither can I. Just sayin'...

That being said, I don't care either way because it doesn't break my leg nor does it pick my pocket.

I also think they have the right to protest, but they do not have the right to extort money from someone by using the act of protesting as a threat. Either you protest on principle or you don't, but you can't threaten to protest in order to extract money. That would be wrong...and illegal.
