Jack is almost correct on this.

But, you don't need to be a pro to hit a decent golf ball. You DO, however, have to have a decent game.

The balls that are made to 'spin', will do just that.....spin. So, when you hit that shit-assed slice, or wonderful top-hook that you are famous for......guess what? It will now be amplified by that $5 ball.

I love the way the Pro V feels off the the putter more than anything, but I like the extra distance on the driver and other shots, also.

I just bought a Ping G15 driver this summer, and it's the first top-of-the-line club I have ever purchased. That club alone has dropped my handicap from 14 to 11.1 in just 6 weeks. It added 25-30 yards to my drives, and made me far more accurate. Huge help.

Next will be new irons.

I'm hoping to get down to single digits real soon, and be a 5 or better by this time next summer.

Good equiptment certainly helps.

I didn't slam your post, I totally believe the ball doesn't matter that much with double digit handicap. Obviously a range ball vs a Pro V1 is a big difference, but come on. Really?

Just my opinion but I will usually only play a Pro V1 so I guess I'm a hypocrite.

Guys shooting 80's/90's worrying about SPIN? Really? :142smilie

you are correct ... going to try tayormade penta to pick up some more spin...:toast:

Love this ball actually, and think you will to. I am down to a 9 from an 11.5 this time last year. Is it the ball, dont know but I am superstitious when it comes to golf.

The bottom line though is you have to be playing and practicing, not a game to get better playing as a weekend warrior or no magic ball. In order for me to drop some more, it will be playing more and making a few putts.

Great ball, and for what ever reason? We did not sell them well and they marked them down to 10 bucks a dozen........Needless to say I now own 6 dozen taylor made pentas . Every bit as good as Prov1 and maybe alittle more distance .

Good round is low 80's and bad high 80's an occasional 90. The difference is in the short game and the amount of time you can dedicate to the game. I like playing with the best balls, irons, ect.....so I have no excuses :mj07:

i play about 3 times a week and have a hitting area in my garage . last 5 times i played been under 90 and getting better . having trouble sticking green with my wedges . with the e6 i could see the ball hitting and trying to stick . thats why i want to try soft golf ball to get it to check better ...

I was a fan of the PROV1 until I found a Bridgestone Tour B330-RX . Been using those balls ever since and lowered my handicap by 2 strokes and hitting the ball straighter with results of lower scores.

I think its completely reasonable for a mid handicapper to use a ball that has some check, particularly given that mid handicappers have inherent difficulty holding greens on a regular basis. You don't think the difference between a ball bouncing into the greenside rough versus holding the edge of the green impacts your score?

You are correct!

I always told myself I was not going to spend money on nice equiptment until my game deserved it. I would never dream of hitting a Pro V a few years ago. Whenever I found one, I would give it to my friend who used them. One day, he asked me, "Why do you always give me these? Why don't you hit them?" I explained I wasn't good enough. He told me, "Maybe it will help?"

Well, I started using one, and the way it felt was amazing. It really did improve my scoring, even if it was just slightly. As you said, holding a green, or even having a 6-7 foot putt, instead of a 15 footer, is huge!

When it cam to clubs, I still played my shitty $300 clubs. Same story: "When I get better, I will buy better!"

Another guy I was playing with told me the same thing......"How can you get better, playing with shit?" It was true. I was watching guys 25 years older than me hit drives 30 yards past me! I'm hitting a K-Mart club, and they are hitting top of the line stuff!

Being a lefty....You can't try people's shit out like everyone else can, but this summer, the golf course I play at got in that G15 driver, and I hit some balls with it. I loved it! Played a couple rounds with it.......bought it.......never looked back!

I have to get fitted for some irons nexr, and I'll be good to go!

Odered one of these today.

Have used a couple of the 'right handers' on the practice green, and they are very smooth, and hold a nice line. Great balance. I was sinking 10 footers with ease, so I think I will be pleased with how I can do from the correct side of the ball.

Also, the pro at the course tossed me a sleeve of those Pentas when I asked him about them. He personally doesn't like them as well as the Pro Vx1.

He says they are a great ball, but they spin too much for his taste.

I putted with them, and they seemed pretty sweet on the green. I'll give them a test run on thye course Saturday.
