hey bud,

i've kinda got the same problem i think... for the past few months my nose gets plugged up.. usually just one nostril at a time though.. but sometimes both... hard to breathe.. i wheeze when i breathe... and i cant breathe when i try to eat some times when i get like that.

usually if i hit the nasal spray it can clear up for a while.. but that is getting old... and when i exercise it seems to clear up for awhile too.

i've always chalked it up to allergies to teh dog.. but now i am thinking it might not be the case...

did you just go to your regular doc and have them look at it?

Ear nose and throat doctor.

doctor said everything went 'well'. He said I had 'ALOT' of work done, whatever that means...

gonna take a couple of Percocet and go to bed..

will update in morning...

Good night!!

Oh, I remember that day..

Oh, I remember that day..

It was early April in 1996 when I had mine done.. I had what they call "windows" put in, and all the dead infected sinus materials cleaned out..

That night was by far the WORST NIGHT OF MY LIFE..

I woke up in the recovery room with 3 YARDS of gauze shoved up in EACH NOSTRIL.. It was quite painful and the skin on my nose nearly tore as it was stretched so far.. I had to keep this gauze in for 24 hours..

I got home and felt ok, but as the meds at the hospital wore off, the pain came back.. I had to take a pain pill they gave me, on an empty stomache, (big mistake) and puked about 30 mins later.. Now, if anyone has ever had all breathing thru their nose completely cut off, and could only breathe thru their mouth, you could imagine puking and trying to breathe at the same time.. some vomit never even made it outta my mouth and I breathed it back down my throat cuz I had to take a breath... After about an hour of vomiting on and off I stabilized myself.. All this gave me a headache like never before, and all the vomiting and pressure on my fresh cut nose/sinuses was so painful I wanted to kill myself.. I was 16 at the time.. I sat up just watching the clock minute by minute, waiting for the sun to come up to get to my doctor appt, to remove the gauze and make sure everything was ok.. I basically cried all night, as my mom cried with me cuz she felt helpless and could tell how much pain i was in..

Finally, I got to the doctor to remove the gauze and check out my nose and stuff..

The doc says "this might burn a bit" so hold on tight.. He started to pull the gauze out of the left nostril little by little.. I'd say after a few feet of gauze was outta the first nostril, I was squeezing the arms of the chair so hard, it broke.. The burn was so bad if felt like someone had a knife in my face and kept slowly turning it..

As he started pulling out the 3 yards of gauze in the right nostril, the pain got so bad I started to vomit.. I was vomiting in the bucket I was holding as he was pulling out the gauze.. I saw the blood red gauze and brown (mucus like) vomit and passed out.. I woke up on a bed a few minutes later with my nose clear of gauze with a little bandage on..

I laid around the house for a few days after and eventually started to feel better after about a week.. Had to wear a bandage around my nose for a few days at school, in case any discharge came out.. yuck!

Now, 11 years later, I dont think it really even helped.. I still get headaches like I used to, and still get colds and sinus infections.. Im actually more prone to getting sick after having that surgery, according to the doctor.. I can breathe decent, but one nostril is still less capable than the other..

I would NEVER EVER EVER go thru that again.. I wouldnt wish it upon my worst enemy.. If my parents werent with me that night, I probably woulda OD' on meds cause the pain was so unbearable..

I hope to god you arent going thru this, man.. Id think they have better technology and less invasive ways to operate now, although I could be wrong..

Good luck!!

Jack was talking about how easy it was and pain free, and I was thinking, :wtf: ?? Big bee's account is what I'm familiar with. Hope you are doing well, law.

:s2:

didn't want him to worry plus i'm sure there was no pain during the procedure

just like people are scared shitless about getting a root canals (i still am) but there is no pain at all.

my son recently had a bad tooth that had to be extracted. i told him to not worry, he wouldn't feel a thing. turns out it had 4 roots and it broke off during removal and it took the dentist 2 hours to complete because he had top dig the broken pieces out and it required 4 stitches. needless to say my son called me up afterwards and told me a thing or two :s2:

UPDATE::

NO sleep last night...Awful night.

I ALWAYS sleep on my right or left side..I had to sleep at 30 degrees sitting upright..NO CAN DO!!

Like Bee said, I can NOT breathre thru my nose, I did manage sto sleep for about 1.5 hours, after 2 Percocet, this a.m.and woke up with my tongue swollen up, dried out, breathe smells like dog shit!!!

They had to put stitches through the septum and I got a big piece of thread going from nostril to nostril..picture a bull with a nose ring..and of course it caked with dried blood, etc.

I told the wife, we can go out in public and she could hook a dog leash to my nose ring and I could be her BITCH!!!

On the lighter side...the nurse told my wife I 'gave them hell' in the operating room when they woke me up.. took THREE people to hold me down.. they knicknamed me Bear!!:com:

I do remember the recovery nurse being pretty HOT and I asked her for her number and asked if I could 'hold her hand':142smilie :mj07: :00hour

was suppose to fly to Dallas on monday. My boss was having his manager's to eat at the Silver Fox steakhouse, which I hear is great, and play golf on Tuesday....Doctor said NO WAY!!

well, guess I'll take some more pain med and get back in bed. Doctor said take pain med every 4 hours even if you don' t feel any pain for first day post surgery...I guess he wants me to rest...

Thanks for all the well wishes.. we shall see if the operation was a 'success'...I follow-up on monday with ENT...hopefully to get stitches out and probably a few days after that I should be breathing better.

any of you guys with this problem tried www.sinuswars.com
?

I just ordered one of their medicines, figure I will give it a shot rather than go in and feel the pain like you guys have.
The 'no-nos' while on their meds are nuts! no coffee, no brown colas, no diet drinks period, no chocolate... choc milk, shakes, candy... etc.
for 6 weeks!

i'm thinking of just killing myself instead.
