Jack:

While I can't legally give you advice on which plan to pick (you must be an agent to do so), without getting into too much detail, I can tell you I've been setting prems on individual health insurance for over 20 years - I'd be happy to help you understand where the most bang for the buck is if you want to talk sometime....

NOW, if i switch, they wanna bring up that PRE-EXISTING BULLSHIT UP.

yeah, i've been on blood pressure meds since mid 20's. if i take my BP now it's 120/70 and ALWAYS is when they take it. it's ****ing CONTROLLED!

what's the sense of having insurance if they use pre-existing conditions??? that's why i NEED insurance, not for a broken leg, not for a doctors visit, not for a flu shot that i've never had either! i need it in case i have a heart attack. duh!

sorry for the rant, I'M PISSED!

may as well turn over all my assets to them and be "protected" in case of a big problem i have have in the future?

**** them!

Jack - from the carriers standpoint - the preex makes a lot of sense.

Think of it this way - you can't go out and total your car - THEN call and get auto insurance and expect to have your car fixed. The system is set up to ensure people buy insurance before they are sick or have something serious wrong.

If everyone waited until they were sick to use insurance, it would cost much, much more.

When we switched over in 01 all we had to do is prove we had previous coverage no pre-existing clause

is that right, Wayne?? Isn't that why HIPPA is out there; for portability of coverage? What am I missing here?

Typically HIPAA ensures that you cannot be cancelled by your current carrier (unless they pull out of the state).

HIPAA also mandates that every state provide a mechanism for those that are really sick to be able to purchase insurance, via either a high risk pool, guaranteed issue state plans, or carrier specific state plans.

You will no waiting period for Pre Ex conditions- Jack-it is federal law HIPAA insurance is portable--ie if you change carriers and don't go with lapse in coverage of more than 63 days you do not have waiting period.

http://www.dol.gov/ebsa/newsroom/fshipaa.html
Under HIPAA, a new employer?s plan must give individuals credit for the length of time they had prior continuous health coverage, without a break in coverage of 63 days or more, thereby reducing or eliminating the 12-month exclusion period (18 months for late enrollees)

so what they do is make you file an application and then they turn you down. that's what they are saying.

you are correct on the pre-x as she was talking about individual plans but said she has limited options because my group is only 2 people.
