The Islanders-Penguins game is self-explanatory as to why the sport (which could be a great sport) will always be sub-tier.

Pathetic.

You post it DB like this happens every game. You can go to any sport and find something like this. NBA...artest brawl, etc. This wasn't a normal occurrence.

Is fighting actually a part of the game or not?

Do you score additional points for fighting? Do you increase your standings by winning a fight?

Yes, this is an extreme example. But it is exemplary of what is wrong with this sport.

The Detroit brawl was so far outside of what basketball is about.

Hockey fans can defend it all they want, but don't complain that hockey is a sub-prime sport. Fighting is the main reason.

Personally, I would like the fighting to be removed because I would like to see the sport grow. It's an absolutely awesome sport to watch.

There's a code in hockey. When teams take shots at players then there are repercussions for it. Actually dawgball without some of these fights there would be more below the belt stuff happening. The reason why it really doesn't happen to this degree much is because the players police it and they are held accountable for their actions. Take a cheap shot at someone and there is hell to pay.

This goes back several games. In the last game Rick Dipietro (isle goalie) took a shot at matt cooke. Then the penguins goalie came down and knocked him out with one shot.

Oh yeah. The "code". No mom jokes, either, or it's OUTSIDE NOW!

And, yet, all other contact sports survive. I mean, THRIVE, compared to the NHL.

Baffling.
