I'm very confused. Isn't it already illegal for internet books to operate within the US? What new restrictions is the bill proposing that aren't already there for Americans?
they aren't operating within the U.S.?

we'll have to see what the bill says but i suspect they are going to force the banks to watch transactions to make sure no wires, checks, etc. are used for internet gambling. and, of course, stop the credit card transactions (WTF? we don't use those anymore anyway).

there will be other ways to fund your sportsbook accounts.

it's all a bunch of bullshit and i still don't understand why everybody is so 'up in arms' over it.

poker, maybe, sports betting? nah, they won't shut it down.

and poker won't get shut down, they'll just cut down on the masses playing as people will be scared off.

who knows? i'm not losing sleep and this business is my livelyhood.

in other words. i can see this hurting the poker rooms but if you want to bet sports with offshore sportsbooks, there will always be a way and i highly doubt the recreational gambler will ever get in trouble betting sports on the internet, just like you're not going to get in trouble betting with the local bookie. THEY are the ones that get in trouble, not US. and the books we deal with are LEGAL where they are doing business.

RELAX, EVERYBODY! it's all good (man, i hate that saying) :D

How do you think this would impact neteller?

If I get a check from neteller...that doesn't mean its gambling related? Right?

i don't know. i think the worst that could happen is the same thing that happened with paypal. they shut them down. YOU don't have any worries except you might lose that method of transfer, just like we all did with credit cards and paypal.

i'm no expert and this is all my opinion that makes sense to me.

nobody knows what's going to happen.

respectfully disagree, but may be looking at it more of a poker player.

for those that want to sleep heres the full bill which undoubtedly will pass tonight. the internet gambling ban starts on page 213:

http://www.rules.house.gov/109_2nd/text/hr4954cr/hr49543_portscr.pdf

the good news is that there is a 270 day period before enactment. so i wouldn't withdraw anything yet.

Less Government my ass. They need to stop calling themselves conservatives. They are Republicans not conservatives. Why is this being lumped in with security at our Ports. Big ass waste of time and the best news for your corner bookie in years.

5363-

in lamens terms:

no person engaged in the business of betting or wagering may knowingly accept in connection the participation of another person in unlawful Internet gambling:

1. credit, or the proceeds of credit INCLUDING CREDIT EXTENDED THROUGH CREDIT CARDS

2. an electronic funds transfer through a money trasnmitting business or the proceeds of an electronic funds transfer (I"m guessing banks and neteller type)

3. any check, draft or similar instrument and is drawn or payable through ANY financial institution

4. the proceeds of any other form of financial transaction the secretary and board of governors of the federal reserve system may jointly prescribe ( a catch all for anything new that sprouts up)

ANY PERSON WHO VIOLATES THIS SHALL BE FINED UNDER TITLE 18, IMPRISONED FOR NOT MORE THAN 5 YEARS OR BOTH

my take is that it really is going after the books and going to make it near impossible to fund any of them. they are NOT going to go after the average joe for gambling, BUT there probably won't be many places to gamble. good news for sin city and your local books.

again, there is still 270 days before enactment and hopefully something can be worked out in that time.

I look forward to this thing passing and going into effect so I can deadicate more suicide parlays to Frisky or Kyle or whomever along with how I broke the law with my deposit. Like I said, bring it on. This may pass, but it will not stand.

Something worked out like what?

I really don't know much about congress and all that. I do know that the republicans are assholes trying to put an internet gambling bill on a homeland security port bill. that makes sense.

I'm sure party and stars and pinnacle and alot of other books will pour money into trying to lobby for a new amendment or repeal if thats even possilbe.

again, i didn't major in politics. i just know the republicans blow ass.

Maybe Bill Frist's silver spoon kids are losing their ass on the internet. Again, how ridiculous is it to mix this in with a bill that is designed to keep a dirty bomb or whatever from slipping into the country. You combine that with hassling Joe Six Pack for betting on Auburn on a Saturday afternoon.

:withstupi I just thought of something, though. If I win Frisky could forward that parlay to the IRS, along with all my identification information.
