A year and a half ago 4 of our company service vehicles had their catalytic converters stolen. The metals in there platinum, rhodium and palladium are, or were, worth a lot. Everything gets parked inside the bays now.

The laws may vary from state to state, but I can say with near certainty that this is not true in the state of Washington. A family friend of mine had this happen to them (not the exact same scenario you spelled out, but almost) and they were not held liable at all.

Thanks Glen I didn't get concrtete proof but gist was the same--the commission of a crime being the key.

--but in civil case that would not matter as would depend on jury.

---and as for remarks from those here you have 2 sides.

I think it is apparent--

If you get jury from taxpayors/homeowners-anti crime citizens you got slam dunk as victim.

If you got jury of it's not my fault/ they owe me/advocates who can relate to their children having 25% chance of being offender- whose idea of american dream is confined to lottery/ lawsuits or crime.
I'd say your chances of getting convicted would be great.

If I did get caught in that situation I would feel pretty confident of not quilty verdict if I could simply have my attorney screen potentials jurors with one simple question "who'd you vote for".

It's been pretty revealing in this thread so far.:)

--which brings to another consideration per this thread.

These thiefs may be missing the boat with all the sympathizers out there--the real money to made may be sueing the victims after the fact.

Get a free shot with lawyer on continuency with nothing to lose and on top of the carnage they have created with crimes on general public they get add much more havoc in their lives and know even if they lose the frivilous case they have satisfaction victims had to spend small fortune in defense--while they get free shot.:0corn

Wayne,

You're bobbing and weaving all over the place. Nobody is 'sympathizing' with the thieves. It's pretty simple, really. If you have a gun, try to be a little bit responsible.

I understand your point Matt and agree with you as previously--and you were certainly not one I would consider of being a sympathizer of the criminal or dead beat element --FWIW

As for leaving your golf clubs alone, maybe they've seen you play and don't think they work?

Sorry for the worry about this, that sucks. I remember years ago when I had my nice convertible mustang and somebody cut through the top to get inside. They got less that your guys got - a lot less - and I had a ruined top. Sucked, BAD.

You understand his point, but can't see mine?

How foggy is it over there on the Agenda?

Come on , Matt:

"They stole my gun? How is that my fault?"

Fucking sympathizers.......

Nobody in here has sided with the thieves, yet Wayne sees anyone who thinks his actions were irresponsble as being against him, and for the thieves.

That is some seriously fucked up logic.

It's actually very ironic. He sounds just like a criminal would!

"I had no hand in this!!!!!!"

We can argue the chicken and the egg all day long.

I'm still waiting on that answer as to why a gun is left in the car?????

Come on what? (maybe you were being sarcastic)

I've agreed with you in every aspect of this situation.

And yes, particularly from dickinjax, i'd be interested in the answer as to why there needs to be 2 guns the car parked overnight. And even after, the guns stay.

Yes....it was dripping with sarcasm.

And, I know you get it. I think it's just hard for some folks to say, "I made a mistake", and correct it.

If you read the whole thread I mentioned I do put value some of the opinions on here and would consider other options. One being bringing the gun in at night. Do not give a shit about your opinion though as not many on here do being a name calling child that thinks his or her opinion is the only right one. I have seen pic's of you on here. I would not be calling anyone anything if I were you except maybe across a keyboard. LOL Since you are so worried about it I will let you know later if I bring it in tonight so you can sleep easier.

wow you see a lot of guys who leave pistols in their car overnight have some defensive attitudes in my book. I don't know what your pasts are.. Maybe you have had some bad experiences. I will say that I know people who always carry a gun.. These people have these fantasies of people trying to kill them and how they willl be able to defend themselves.. Or they think they will be the "hero" to come into action if need be. No offense but they dream more of being a "movie hero" than being in the realm of reality.

no offense taken--being a vet with over 50 combat assualts I like to hear the rambling from the other side.

--and the realm of reality is--if situation occurs I won't be pissing in my pants and watching the fear/hopelessness in my families eyes because I didn't do all I could to keep them safe.

Sorry not much of choice for me--but to each their own. I just hope "one of us" is around when you/your family need us.

I can understand the logic I guess. I am very well protected in my house but I have much better odds of being killed in a home accident than I do of being killed by a random stranger in my car. If someone is crazy enough to want to kill me, guess what? They are going to do it regardless if I have a gun in the car.. The point is that a gun should not be left in a car overnight to allow a petty thief a chance to steal it. Period..
