My thought was, why leave out:

Firehouse
Jackyl :00hour
Extreme
Mr. Big
Winger
Dokken
Enuff Is Enuff
LA Guns
Stryper
Night Ranger
And of course??Nelson

Even more good ones!! I got that list off the "Top 80's Hair bands" Apparently who ever made up the list didn't think of those. I'm not good with names I just know songs. Thanks!! :toast:

The Rat Pack - Frank, Dean and Sammy.

Richard Pryor.

Now? Allman Brothers. They just jam and jam and jam. At least they did in the 70's.

Phish is the best live act I have seen by a wide margin. Though I am half your age, I'd bet I have been to more live shows than you. Open your mind, boys. Mainstream artists aren't always the best artists.

I've been to over 100 Phish shows - used to work on an ancillary crew for them and got free tickets for almost every show, usually 10th row or better. Best band, ever. No two shows were ever the same. So many artists these days are about production and play the same setlist over and over, but Phish is truly a music lover's dream. Combination of classical jazz, funk, and some serious originality thrown on top.

Best venues in the U.S. that I have been to: the Gorge and Red Rocks (outdoor venues), Hampton Coliseum and Radio City Music Hall (indoors).

If I could see a band that I have never seen (and I have been to probably over 800 live shows) I would see the Talking Heads.

I love me some allman bros, but unfortunately was unable to see them live until the 90s. I was still in diapers when you were catching them in the 70s.

If the question allows for past groups I would have to say Zep. If that isn?t allowed I would go with the Black Keys because I haven?t seen them.

Saw this combo at Wrigley a few years back, it was enjoyable but it paled to seeing Joel the year prior at the Last Play at Shea. Part of that was the myriad of guest performers he had though, Tony Bennett, Garth Brooks, Steven Tyler, Roger Daltrey and capped by Paul McCartney.

Other great shows were seeing No Doubt when they were first starting and Weezer opened for them. (ND was so much better at the beginning when they showed their punk/ska influences.) Also Rush puts on an amazing show and saw OK Go at an uber-small venue when they were first starting out.

Best part about those, in my opinion, is that I would consider none of those to be one of my favorite bands, its just that the live performance was so great.

My middle son became pretty good friends with one of the two guys in the black keys. I think his name is Pat but not real sure about that though and am not going to call him up and ask . It was quite a coincidence because I knew his dad who works for the Akron Beacon Journal. Anyways they met here at UA and became buddies. He's got quite a collection of signed LPs, drumsticks and photos. He used to go see them all the time here in Akron when they were playing in front of just 100 people or so. They also filmed a couple of videos at the Italian Club here about 5 minutes away.

I've listened to a couple of CDs that my son gave me and found them to be enjoyable and off the beaten track of todays popular music. there is a certain, for lack of better word, raw sound to their music that is appealing.

He also has told me that they have been straying from the style that made them so good to begin with.

Patrick Carney is their drummer. I think you may have mentioned that in another thread as it rang a bell that your son knew them. I guess they, or at least one of them, use to work at an old school record shop in Akron. A good friend of mine is from Akron and says its pretty crazy that he use to buy dozens of records from there and the guy that rang him up he know sees on tv.

Have seen a lot of rock and roll acts back in the '70s-80's including the Stones who played here at the rubber bowl Hands down, the three best shows I have seen were

1. Queen after the release of Queen 2 album
2. The Sensational Alex Harvey Band
3. Alice Cooper - The original band following the release of the Love it to death LP. I never liked his solo stuff at all.

All three bands exhibited supreme showmanship which made their events true shows, not just concerts.

Probably the record shop down in Highland Square, perhaps an oxymoron but the "hip" part of Akron. Chrissy Hynde of the pretenders is also from here. She opened a vegan eaterie down there but it went belly up last year. I'm sure that you are probably aware that Devo is also from Akron. it's always been a blue collar rock and roll town:0008

Looks like we're the only two going to Zevon's show

Warren Zevon or Tupac for me

Oh yeah, my friend.....:toast:

thinking Penguinfan would be joining us as well

Can't imagine what a Zevon show when you caught him on a good night would have been like.

Would have been great to see Public Enemy, Run DMC, and Tupac back in the day, too....

Wished I'd have seen Ramones, Television, Velvet Underground, New York Dolls and Talking Heads to name just a few more...:0008
And Tom Waits, too, but since he is still alive and kicking, there is always a chance to do so...:00hour

Saw the Replacements 5 times and would be there if Tommy and Paul do get back together as they are now talking about doing....:toast:
