Conclusion

There is an old saying that describes the feelings of workers in difficult economic times: my take-home pay won't take me home. One reason for the squeeze on workers is the rising tax burden at all levels of government. Since 1990 the federal government has enacted a five-year $200 billion tax increase and the states have added $40 billion in new taxes to the total. After a brief respite in the early 1980s, taxes are climbing again. By one calculation Americans work from January to the end of the first week in May just to pay their tab to the government.

For most Americans, tallying all the various taxes that they pay to all levels of government is a hopeless task. Americans pay excise taxes, sales taxes, income taxes, and payroll taxes.

This study develops a direct and easily understood method of determining the impact of taxes on middle-income Americans' finances: calculate the amount of extra income workers must earn to pay for the goods and services they desire. In many states workers have to earn twice the retail price of most goods and services before they have the after- tax income to purchase them. In those states middle-income workers are devoting over half their income, not to the goods and services they want, but to the government tax collector.

Fact :Middle income families are paying well over 50% in misc. taxes compared to their earnings.

Example by well known and respected financial wizz George Nastas:In an average-tax state, a middle-income worker with earnings of $34,000 must pay $17,038 to purchase a $10,000 car--$10,000 to buy it and $7,038 for sales tax and the income and payroll taxes on the earnings used to pay for the vehicle. He or she must work three and one-half months to buy the car, then two and one-half additional months to pay the taxes on the income used to purchase it. For self-employed middle-income workers, the true cost of that auto is $18,320, because they are subject to a 14.1% self-employment tax, to cover the employee and employer shares of Social Security and Medicare (FICA), on their incomes.

I find it funny:mj07: ,your chart.Just don't call out others who do the same hypocrite.

Except that your "fact" as above is not a fact at all.

Your "expert" totally ignores the FACT that the hypothetical car buy is now the owner of a $10,000 car, and has increased his net worth by $10,000 on which he pays no tax. Then he ignores the FACT that no one with a $34 K income pays cash, they finance for 4 or 5 years, so only need about $3K per year. Then he ignores the FACT that the car buyer doesn't pay $10K at all because he has a trade-in. Then he ignores the FACT that the self-employed write off the car purchase as a business expense.

He ignores the "fact" that the purchase of a $10K car is completely optional. No one, no government, has forced him to buy a $10K car. It's his free choice.

And mostly he ignores the FACT that Joe car-buyer doesn't just go out and earn another $10K when he wants a car. He uses savings, trade-ins, and loans.

No wonder you can't get a decent job. You're just plain stuuuuuuppid.

Damn dude why dont you get a money clip. A rubber band is cheesy. Do you have a special kind of rubber band? Does it matter how large or thick it is. What if it breaks do you carry an extra? Does it matter what color. What pocket is the rubber band in. Weird.

Its a real thick one and I have had it for a long time. I think it came off something industrial.

It has to be a brown one.

My sister married into a Italian family and I swear a few of them are true wise guys. I got the idea from one guy in particular when we went out to a liquor store. It was quite impressive I thought. So I saved my money and got alot of one dollar bills.
These days, I wrap my rubber band around hundreds.

Got to admit I dont pull out my money wad in public. Got to pick your spots. Can't be too carefull these days.

Of course I dont carry my .45 in the same pocket I carry my money wad.

sorry Rick . I can tell by your reply you count out dollars from your wallet at Wendys one at a time on a 5 dollar tab.

PS - Money clips are for pussychops

Have leather PGA clip in front pocket and wallet in back rear--for the record.

-Now a question for you--how many of these does your rubber band hold?

Always get amused by our anonymous cyber trolls -groveling for higher taxes and more entltlements--while trying to make us think they are wining and dining at flower shops in France.

Bottom line- Those for redistribution of wealth and those opposed have obvious "real life" reasons--

you -tramp-trench-and muffin keep stepping up to that plate -while you can!

Oh if we didnt have them to stimulate the economy where or where would we be.
its pathetic :)

NOTE- there were 389 people that reported making over 1 million last year. I got to think that figure of actual millionaires is more in the thousands. The good ones hide their income you know that right DTBlackgumby ?
