Work/home soon

I'm on the back side of working 7 out of 8 and possibly 8 out of 9. It has been busy, but not terrible. Tonight I have patients with an infected abcess from a surgical would (probably got MRSA during the surgery), a nursing home patient who is wheelchair bound and fell and broke his femur but no surgery is required to fix, a guy who fell down the steps and got a small pneumothorax, a man who was hit by a drunk driver and sustained a fractured femur in three places, a guy who fell off a roof sustaining a fractured elbow and fractured pelvis, and a man with a total knee replacement with a DVT complication.

All my patients are pretty good, and I like most of them. My one patient is a cab driver, so I was asking him about famous fares. He told me Charles Barkley was probably the coolest guy he ever drove. Barkley gives the driver a Benjamin when he gets in the cab, when he exits the cab, and if he makes any stops, a hundred more with each entrance and exit. He said the Round Mound of Rebound is like MENSA smart (not sure about that, so will have to check). I always have liked Barkley, so good to hear.

He works a lot out of Ceasars Palace driving a limo too. He said the drivers draw straws to see who has to take Celene Dion home. He said she is a complete bitch and horrible person. Doesn't want the driver to speak, and she makes them raise the divider as soon as she gets in the car. She won't talk to them, treats them like peasants, and she stiffs the tip every single time. Conversely, Elton John who also performs at Ceasars sometimes is awesome. Elton will have the driver go by the mall and buy them clothes, buy them pizza, and he has a custard place he likes to go as well. He too tips a hundo with each entrance and exit, and chats them up like long lost friends.

We are doing back home for about 10 days, then two weeks in Haiti, back home a week, then back to Vegas for an indeterminate time. More later.

Heart Attack Grill

I haven't been here lately, but I have a video to post. In short, the restaurant is at the end of Fremont Experience, and it was opened by a retired cardiologist. They put a patient hospital band and hospital gown on you when you enter. All the food is meant to be unhealthy (a double cheeseburger is called a double bypass, etc). The milkshakes even have a stick of butter in them. If you weigh over 350 lbs, you eat for free.

I didn't eat all my food. If you don't eat all your food, you get spanked by the nurse/waitress. This video was shot by a friend who came to visit, and I think it shows the true experience.

Crazy patient

So, I get a patient at 8:30 pm last night. Her diagnosis is small bowel obstruction, nausea, vomiting, and pain. As soon as she hits the floor, she wants pain meds and Benadryl, but it isn't time yet. She has had multiple admissions and abdominal surgeries. Her scans this time actually just show that she is constipated.

I'm in her room getting her history, and she gets out of bed. She walks around the bed and starts putting up the side rails. She then goes over to the closet and then starts opening the chest of drawers. She walks back and forth, and she is talking to me and to herself. She makes no sense. She reminds me of a meth addict jonesing for a fix. She tells me that Snoop Dogg is her cousin, and she refers to him as Snoopy. She blathers on and on. She says she and Flava Flav are tight and she was in one of his videos. She also name drops Michael Jackson and talks about their friendship. She claims to also have been on NY city on 9/11 a mile from ground zero which causes her severe anxiety to this day. She continues to walk and fidget and act bizarrely. N

She take about her pit bull Steve that she sicked on the neighbor. She said he was killed and she was fined and misses him badly. Lastly, before I could get out of the room, she put the television on the channel that has the pretty pictures and serene music. She starts humming and talking to the television and tells me she is keeping tune. I asked her if she likes to sing, and she proceeds to tell me of course she does seeing how she's a proud member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. She hopes to be better soon for the Christmas performances and dates that are planned.

This lady should have never been admitted. She's a great example of a person with multiple undiagnosed/untreated psychiatric issues that constantly goes to the hospital for imagined medical problems. She is so overwhelming that the physicians just do and give her whatever she wants, and then poor saps like me have to deal with her. Hospitals are full of people like this. "The squeaky wheel gets the greasin'" applies here. The more people like this complain the more medications are thrown at them and needless tests and procedures performed. If only her psych disorders were properly treated. Very frustrating, and of course she is on Medicaid, so it's all on our dime.

Flying home today! Haiti trip begins on 12/27. More to come.

24 hours in advance or pay the extra 10 bucks for the computer to do it. I rarely get higher than A25.

Had this lady on the second leg in our row. She blew her nose 20 times after I started counting, and she was coughing  I don't think covering her head was gonna help much.

Guy directly in front of me was coughing. Toddler behind me kicked my seat much of the flight.

Some people, usually asians, keep those hoods or respiration filters if they
are sick to prevent spreading their flue or what ever they have.

Don't know if it helps or not

and thanks for these write ups :0074

I'm pretty sure that's what she was attempting, but I was still disgusted, and I'm just now feeling normal again.

Thanks!

So Cal
Great read six-five . Very entertaining.:0008

I've got a spot I wanna recommend .
oyster bar in palace station.
It's a amazing stop for Gumbo, Jambalaya , and my favorite Shrimp Pan Roast. The raw bar is awesome too. The clam chowder is can't miss too.

Depends on what u like to do? Should be a great time to watch college hoops. I recommend the newly renovated Westgate (old Hilton) as a great place to watch the games. Maybe I'll see u while you're out?

Well, I have to tell you.....I always hear about people saying the get sick in Las Vegas, and I believe a lot of them get sick on the plane!

Everytime that I fly in the Winter months, there are at last a dozen people hacking and sneezing and sniffling. All that shit is floating around in that tube we all are sitting in. Like clockwork, you find yourself feeling shitty in a few days.

Last time I flew to Vegas, I wore a mask. I felt stupid with it on, but I never got sick on my trip!

Oh, and that guy across the aisle? He wants to power scrub his face with those germs! Keep that thing off!
