On the course!
sorry I've been out of the loop for a while as I've had a rough couple months dealing with my daughter, losing my last Greek Aunt, and the brutal fact I've been sick with some virus I feel I caught on a plane ride back home from the East coast on my trip to pay my respects to my Aunt....

I'm hoping we can all catch up for some holiday cheer and possibly make some epic story worthy of telling....

Bring on the Holidaze in Vegas....and please turn up that thermometer....

Christ, I hope it turns around for you soon! Sorry to hear about all the misfortune in your life lately.

Smurphy is in town, so we have been Vegasing it up a few nights. Met Ar182 and wife tonight as well. More updates later; I wanted to post a picture I took. I have written a lot about the homeless. I talked to this guy a bit and he agreed to let me take his unique picture. He was not drinking and denied that. I surmise he gambles a bit much, and he claimed to have been robbed. Nonetheless, he has a loyal friend he is caring for, and I thought this picture told quite a story.

Smurphy has been here this weekend, so I enjoyed hanging out with him. He's truly probably the most affable person I have ever met in my life. Crowds are drawn to him, and everybody loves Smurphy. I think he missed his calling in the world of politics.

AR182 and his wife were also great to meet for the first time as well. We all enjoyed socializing tonight. I rarely enjoy sitting around and talking without an activity involved, but I truly did. Al has some great stories and is very entertaining. I'm already looking forward to February when they will be back.

Friday, I gambled with Smurphy and his buddy Jo at Hooters. We all lost, but still it was a good time. One session of BJ, I was down to $30. I won, so I doubled my bet. I get 88 vs a dealer Jack  I do my best to play correctly, so I had to dig to split those 8s even though I hate that play. I think I drew a 9 and a 10, so I'm hoping that the dealer doesn't have the 20 all along. She miraculously turns over a 6 then a 7 so I win! I kept my $60 out there, and I get A3 vs a dealer 4. Double down again and draw a 4 and she has a jack and draws an 8! Boom! That was the highlight of the evening.

The next night, my wife came out, and we were treated to an invitation only event at Hooters. Chicken, prime rib, and already peeled crab claws and shrimp. The food was fantastic, and we had a good time. Smurphy hooked us up for sure. The gambling was again not too hot, so we left about 9 and caught the very disappointing Mocking Jay 2 movie at the Orleans. The Orleans was very busy, but the theater was dead. It's actually a nice place to see a movie.

After Smurphy and I parted ways tonight, I played poker at the Linq. The Trooper was dealing and a situation arose where this punk kid made an ass of himself. When it was on him to act, he called, but instead of putting his call in the pot, he barely pushed his chips in front of his stack. The action is not official unless you verbally declare what you want to do, or if you put your chips past the betting line, and he did neither. We were all waiting on him, and then it became clear that he was not happy with the trooper's deal to him because one of the cards didn't get all the way to his hand. His passive-aggressive response to this was to pull the dick-move of not pushing his chips all the way forward and to slow down the game. The whole table and especially I gave him crap about that, and soon after I called the clock on him when he was taking too long to make a decision. What a tool. Several of us had fun at the expense of the ass after this, and he finally stormed off. Trooper started calling me the Clintstigator in jest, and it was a fun poker table. I lost a little, but I did enjoy myself.

My wife had to have the car to get to work, so I walked to the strip from my apartment. I really enjoyed myself, and walking gives you a different perspective than always driving. I took some pictures during my walk that I will post below. Have you ever heard of the Mardi Gras Casino? Me neither

Hey SixFive, it was great meeting you also & long over-due!!.... Also as usual it was very enjoyable hanging with smurphy!!....Thank you very much for the freebies for the observation wheel....It made Suzanne's day!!....I know Paris is called the city of lights, but it has nothing on Vegas!!....Las Vegas at night is really a beautiful city!!

As I told you the other evening, I used to work in a few hospitals in Brooklyn & there I gained tremendous respect for the nursing profession....It is really admirable work that you do, especially the work in Haiti!!....

I liked my idea of you taking smurphy to Haiti with you where he may be able to find the woman of his dreams!!....I'll chip in on the air fare!!

6/5 - I for one, find your posts really cool. Keep it up and know that there are probably more that read and are interested than actually post. I know I don't post very often, but check very often. Take care, all the best, and enjoy the holidays:toast:

Feelgood, we will have to get together soon. Here's to hoping 2016 is a better year for you and yours.

Thanks, Al! Look forward to next time.

Hammer, I don't think so. This was meant to be temporary, and I'm sure it will be.

Skipper, thanks for the post. I appreciate it.

Sunday night with Al, Suzanne, and Smurphy, we are talking about comps, nice hotels, staying on the strip etc, so I tell Suzanne the Wynn story and show her the picture. We laugh about it and conversation moves on. As we are saying goodbyes, Suzanne shakes my hand, I give her a hug, and she says, "It was nice to meet you, Cunt!" :mj07::mj07:

Pillowpalooza and a wrong first impression.

There are two things in a hospital that you seem to need a lot and often chase your tail trying to find. I don't know why it is, but you can never find a wheelchair. A hospital should have plenty of these, right? Great lengths are taken where I work now to protect wheelchairs from being swiped (I thought I had a picture, but I don't) including chaining them up.

Pillows are also always in short supply. Patients often need multiple pillows to position them correctly and comfortably, and often times family members stay, and it's nice to try to make them comfortable if possible. The search starts in an empty room where a pillow is taken from the freshly made empty bed. This means that when the new patient arrives, they have no pillow, so the search starts again; rinse and repeat over and over. Anyway, I happened upon a stash of them the other night, and I took a picture of this pillowpalooza [emoji3]

During shift change, I'm getting report about my patient. The first things the nurse tells me is he used to use heroin and has no veins now, and his IV he did have came out. 4 people have tried to restart it, but nobody can get it. He is in stable condition, and he only needs it for pain meds, but he also gets pain pills, so I'm not that worried about it. The guy is there bc he is homeless and was in a dumpster trying to find stuff to sell. When he swung his leg over to get out, his momentum carried him, and he fell hard on his side causing a femur fracture. The orthopedic surgeon pretty much blew him off in his consult note, so he isn't going to get surgery. The guy seems comfortable in bed, but when I walk in to introduce myself, he starts in wanting pain meds. My first impression is he is a drug seeking homeless man, and I'm not going to have a good night with him.

Shortly thereafter, I'm in his room, and I learn that my first impression is off. The guy is very open and well spoken. He tells me that he has been off drugs for 5 years and that he doesn't even drink. His admission drug screen confirms this. He said he has been homeless for 2 years bc of the following events. 2.5 years ago in June, he was going to the store. He remembers starting to cross the street when he had the light, a flash, and then waking up in the hospital 5 days later. It was a hit and run that caused him a fractured femur and pelvis.

He said that he apparently was unconscious in the street for a considerable amount of time and sustained second degree burns from the hot pavement, and his temperature skyrocketed up to 105 when the paramedics brought him to the hospital. To make matters worse, he was robbed of his wallet which contained his rent money and his SS card. During his lengthy recovery, he was evicted from his apartment, and has been homeless ever since. He has a storage shelter he rents month to month now, and the owner lets him stay there. He told me about toilet he rigged up and several other adjustments he has made to be able to survive on the street.

I called to get him more pain medication after I helped him to the bathroom. His pain was very legit, and I felt really bad for him. He only asked for pain medication and food during my shift, and he was a very likable guy. It was a good lesson for me to not "judge a book by its cover".

Weird night at work last night. Census was low, so I had to leave at 0030. Free time for me, so on to the Hard Rock for poker. This is the biggest 1/3 game in town bc there is a no limit uncapped buyin. The "Iceman" was there who I have written about before, and he's quite a character. I bought in short for $160, and was very card dead. I was patient picking up pots occasionally. This hand then went down. I like to loosen up a little when I win a few hands, so here it is.

My hand is 10[emoji814]️6[emoji812]️ on the button, and i straddled to 6. UTG raises to 12. 2 callers, and I make the loose call of 6 more. UTG is a loose middle aged Indian guy and mentioned 30 minutes earlier he is tired. He has $400 and has had a swingy chip stack. I have $280 left. Pot $48.

Flop 10[emoji815]️3[emoji815]️3[emoji814]️
UTG bets $15, folds to me, and I call. Pot $78.

Turn 8[emoji815]️. UTG bets $15 again. I call still having top pair. His bet sizing is terrible, so I'm going nowhere especially against him. Pot $108.

River 10[emoji812]️. UTG says "100!" And slides out the bet. I think about 20 seconds and say "all in". He calls instantly. I table my 10s full of 3s, and he tables his A[emoji815]️6[emoji815]️ flush. $600 and change Pot ships to me. He leaves, another guy leaves, 6 of us left, and the bad players are all gone, so I rack up too.

I book the win and head home.

Paris

My Wife and I had a few days off. I was looking at my Total Rewards app as I frequently do, and I had comp nights at the Paris hotel on Sunday and Monday. We have never stayed there, so I booked it. We met our friend Alex first and had our staple (Sakana), and then we all went to the Paris. There was a moderate line, but I was able to walk right in the Diamond check-in area to be greeted with yessirs and no line. When the lady was checking me in, I asked if there were any upgrades available. She tapped a few keys, and said she had a Giverny Suite available for me. She said it was one of her favorites, so off we went to the 9th floor.

Upon exiting the elevator, we found the correct hallway, and our room was he very first on the left. I'm used to getting the far room. We were really surprised when we walked in. The room was fantastic and big and luxurious. Two big bathrooms, a hot tub, a big bed, sitting area, and a nice swivel tv. This is all free too, so that makes it even nicer.

Next stop is the Diamond Lounge. It's already 8, and it closes at 9, so not much time there. At the front desk, I gave the girl my ID and card, and I said, "May I please bring in a second guest?" She smiled and told me since I used the magic word that would be fine. I slipped her a thank you, and we enjoyed an hour there before moving on to some light slot gambling (what I call low-rolling). The system is that you only put in $5 bills. You play the minimum bet and try to hit the bonus. After you get the bonus or another high paying spin, you cash out, and start on a different machine. You give this 4 losing shots and then quit, or you hit a few bonuses and win and leave ahead. Low-rolling 65 style after getting a free suite and free stuff in the Diamond Lounge.

I played a little Black Jack, and we won enough to pay for the Eiffel Tower experience tickets. These were 2 for 1 with the local ID. I think the guide said it is a perfect half-scale model of the real Eiffel Tower. It seemed very high to me at the top, and it offered a very nice view of Las Vegas at night. I actually enjoyed it more than the high roller. It was very cold, so we didn't stay there long.

I played some late night poker and lost a buyin. After sleeping in late, B met a friend, and I walked over to the Bellagio poker room via "Jack's Nice Walk". https://vimeo.com/147801386

Please note: I have no video skills, nor do I want them nor care to learn them.

My table was tough, and I broke even. Even after running my pocket jacks into a set of 6s early on.

I went back to the Paris and picked up my $100 celebration voucher (for making diamond), and I made a reservation at Gordon Ramsay's. Our bill came to $180  so the voucher plus comps paid for that. I had the best ribeye steak of my life, but the salad was inedible, the bread only mediocre, and the service exceptionally and seemingly purposefully slow. I told my wife that I'm just not cultured enough to eat at "nice" places. I just don't see how it could have possibly been worth that much money. I won't be going back there, and I know I would have enjoyed the podunk Texas Roadhouse or Longhorn back at home more for a third of the cost.

The rest of the trip was uneventful but fun, and we really enjoyed our time on this little staycation to the strip.

On the way home from work his morning, I was hungry, so I pulled in to the Carl's Jr. There were three women sitting on the sidewalk of the parking lot, and I recognized one. She has been my patient at the hospital, and I see her on the street almost daily. She is homeless, and this is her "home" area. I stopped to talk to her and asked if she and her friends would like some food. They were very thankful and appreciative and willing to accept. I bought them some bottled water, breakfast sandwiches, and tall coffees.

The lady I recognized is named Rita. She walks with a cane and a noticeable limp. Her skin is weathered and dark, and she has full head of wild, thick gray hair. As I wrote, she lives in this area near the hospital. As she told me, "I have no means". I'm not sure of her full story, but I think she does drink but does not use drugs. She speaks eloquently and intelligently. She told my wife and I she likes the hospital and Dr X saved her leg. She also told us of another experience. She fell in the back lot of the 7-11. Her ankle was fractured, and Dr. S. Did surgery on her. After discharge, she went to his office for follow up, and he greeted her with, "You need to leave! You are not welcome here!" She said she then had to get a guy at the bus stop to take out her stitches with his pocket knife. I know Dr. S., and he's an asshole. I believe her story. What a little punk dick he is. These poor homeless folk have many struggles in life and then have to deal with crap like that on top of it. Terrible.
