Ventura, Ca.
RIP Bill's/Barbary. Ate at the coffee shop for one last time when I was there a month ago.
Bleeding, no don't think there is.

Upstairs watching sports on the big TV.
Coffee shops pretty much it.

Coffee shops pretty much it.

Hard to man and stock a buffet after hours, the Grand Cafes at all the station casino propertys are pretty good in a pinch...Angus burgers, cheap decent Tbones and stuff.

Try the 24/7 Blueberry Hills Restaurants around..mucho VERY good grub, all from scratch.

Closest to strip would be 10-15 minutes away (Charleston and decatur) 15 north to Sahara (west) left, down few miles to decatur, take right, be on your left about a mile...you will be hooked.

Where it is real F ing COLD
Going to need a decent late night place on strip to eat. I'll just snoop around. What is the name of the place that has cheap steak and eggs along with Monday night BBQ. It's just off the strip

That is probably Elllis Island. You can get the breakfast special at many places but, Ellis Island has a place with great ribs. It is walkable from Ballys...they have the BBQ everynight.

Also with their player card you can get a 10 oz sirloin tip fillet, baker, salad and choice of 3 fresh brewed beers for $7.95....have to ask for it, not on menu. It is on Koval, one street east of strip.

Pet expo at Cashman Hall last Saturday

Pet expo at Cashman Hall last Saturday

Packed up our Lab (dogs need updated proof of vaccinations to attend) and headed out.

Cashman Hall is a huge expo center next to Neon museum... (Big on regional gun shows and the like)

Never saw so many people with their favorite pets.

Dogs were in the overwhelming
majority, many rescue groups and dog product vendors were hawking their goods; must have seen about every variety from A-Z.

What made it especially entertaining were the local "kooks" with their "exotic pets". (sorry, no pics)

I saw men wandering around with 6-7 foot boas around their shoulders,
women with Macaws on their shoulders, a few brave women cradling cats with startled looks in their eyes as they wandered through a sea of dogs.
Saw a couple Capuchian Monkeys, Ferrets, and the weirdest thing was a tall blond cradling a Sloth....Really felt sorry for the sloth, they I believe, are endangered and nocturnal...I asked her where she located it, she replied a local exotic animal dealer.

It is sad that people have such empty lives that they go to the extreme of supporting an "exotic animal dealer" who is probably smuggling really rare wild critters out of Central and South America.

BTW, great little sports book in here as well. You can drive right up and get in and out quick. I like to shop for lines when I'm there and this is a favorite spot. Old school for sure. Seems like the cabbies like to hang out here.

Wow never seen that but was there late and buzzed

Just go in Main door on side of Casino and hang to your right. I think it is William Hill book and the guys are friendly and quick in there. I like it cause you can get in and out quick unlike the massive Strip places that take 20 minutes to walk to book. I think there is a micro brewer in there as well. Not many of these older joints left but I like em for Sports betting.

They have remodeled the sports book in the past year so it is a decent place to hang out. You should consider Las Vegas Advisor as part of their deal is a coupon book that includes the rib place, free drinks, coupon play and BOGO in the cafe (where the steak special is located).

Agree on sports book. So the food is pretty decent? May need to keep that in mind for college football.

Strip shooting.

Strip shooting.

Vegas after dark is not the Pollyanna "Gambling Disneyland" that awe struck tourists expect.

All cities have major social "issues''.
In Vegas those issues are amplified by the gambling culture.

Watching the news, and reading the paper here tells the true story of Vegas today; it is not very pretty.

The killed rapper was "praised" by his father as a good family man and not a "gangsta"....some followers held a candle lite vigil at the crash site last night.

Here is the real man.....http://www.lvrj.com/news/don-t-cry-...tion-waiting-to-happen-192829941.html?login=y

If you have young 20 somethings coming to Vegas warn them it is not a warm and fuzzy Disney Theme Park.

I saw lots of beautifully dressed very young women at the Venetian last nite, hope they stayed inside and partied safely....

Just found this thread...Been living here for almost a year Dead Money, and I have only been to one buffet (Red Rock)...it was terrible.

I work Sun-Wed so if you like to golf hit me up and we can go chase the white ball around.

Thank for posting the article. There are characters like this in every city but, for some reason, the police choose to look the other way or waste time enforcing laws like talking on a cell phone while driving, busting adults for pot or figuring out how to keep Big Gulps out of the hands of those who choose to drink them.

The tragedy of the story is the innocent cab driver who was just trying to make a living and his passenger.
