If anyone has any specific questions about the procedures and information about possible treatments other than what I've mentioned, just ask. I don't know much, but I can tell you what I was told - for my situation. I didn't spend much time on them, because they didn't make too much sense from what I could see.

Glad you went for more opinions. I told you my dad was going through prostate cancer treatments. He finished with them and is doing well. My sister called me last night and told me my brother now has Prostate cancer. If alright with you I may get your email from Jack as I am very interested in the procedure that can keep the nerve intact. Thanks for the update.

Rick, please get my e-mail from Jack - I'll let you know everything I know to this point. I will be undergoing that procedure, have chosen the incision and not the robotic procedure, as this surgeon has done both and sees little difference in either other than more blood loss in the way he does it. He prefers the main incision as it allows him to get in and feel what he's doing, and he's done a ton of them. He thinks he can do a good job of protecting and saving the nerve(s) and has an excellent record of accomplishing that. Certainly did not say other ways were worse, it is a surgeon preference. In my novice way of thinking, I like a guy who has done the robotic thing and prefers a more hand-on approach because he thinks he can do a better job. Of course I don't know the best thing, only going on what I've read, what he's told me, and what makes sense in my feeble brain.

He said the robotics marketing has been intense and very effective in changing minds and selling the procedure. But he personally prefers what we're going to do. I would guess you'd get a wide range of opinions, and I'm sure your brother may hear some of them. Feel free to relate any info about your brother's case to me, I can relate anything I've learned in my brief process, FWIW. Sorry to hear of your brother's situation. I know it is a very daunting thing to hear and consider. My best to all of you.

Just thought I'd quickly give an update - I know some of you are interested in the process, and I really appreciate all the positive vibes from everyone. I'm having surgery to remove the prostate tomorrow morning, hopefully will be back home by sometime Friday, then spending spring break chillin' on the couch. Hopefully everything will go well, sounds like the procedure and recovery for that will be relatively simple, so at this point I'm not obsessing about that. Of course, the concern is how the body reacts afterwards, and if I can learn some new habits on maintaining bodily functions quickly - if at all.

I will let everyone know anything I think is important in this, hopefully this will come in handy for others moving forward. Can't stress enough the importance of having yourself checked out regularly, despite the intrusion of the backside by the doc. Hopefully for most of you, that will be the worst thing you'll go through.

I'll talk to you all on the other side of this, and relate anything worth reporting. Thanks again to all. :0074
