okay you car guys

About five months ago I was just above 90k miles on my car. Went in for a routine oil change, and they came back and told me I needed a transmission flush, brake fluid flush and air filter. They'd "throw in" the air filter and the rest would cost me about $190. I know nothing about cars so I called my stepdad, who has built racecars in his spare time for about 30 years, and he told me hell no. Just get the oil changed. So I spent $22 instead of $190. Car still works just fine.
Like I said, I know NOTHING about cars, but I trust my stepdad 100 percent.
I also have never heard of a brake flush. I don't think I have ever heard of brake fluid breaking down unless it was a beater with a bunch of miles.
The transmission: Like some guys said don't fuk with it unless something is wrong. If it is going bad do it if not don't. It might get you enough life to trade in and fuk a dealership if it is going bad. If you do it make sure they replace the filter and ask to see the pan. There is sometimes a magnet in the pan and if there is metal shavings attached to the magnet- get rid of the car asap.
Also whatever they say you need like bulbs, air filters, pcv valves, or hoses- do it yourself. They mark the stuff so high and charge you a ton for labor. To me it's not that I can't afford to have places do the stuff, I just hate paying some asshole that thinks he is getting away with screwing me over. Now oil changes are a different thing. I don't change my oil because I hate having to deal with the old oil and my body is to beat up to be crawling around on the ground. Unless the wife wants to get freaky and that is like hitting the lotto twice in a week. I am still waiting for the second trimester horny pregnant thing.:0corn
