I coach a soccer team myself.

Not sure if we won a game or not this season...but let me tell you practice was the most fun time of my life.

I owe soo much to my players...they taught me things, things I will always remember. Anyone with any free time should give back. The rewards are priceless...all the joy on their faces, the smiles, the gratitude...getting to mold their young impressionable minds is a joy. I only wish I video tape some of the interaction we shared, but alas I only have a few pictures...I will share one of them with you.....

I will never forget this group. Ever.

Thanks for the the posting and the kind words everyone and thanks again to the big guy Jack. Yeah, the assistants Ray and Brandon haven't been sending many plates back lately but they are both there every practice as they have boys on the team. Brandon, the guy holding his gut in place while they warm up used to be the "star fullback" at a school called Trinity High, or so he tells me........, and they're usually Nationally ranked and were when he was there so I am not short on a lot of good help. Problem is that his son is one of our youngest and won't be moving up in age class with me next year so that sucks. A guy that owns a body shop in Dallas painted the helmets for us and clear coated them but they tend to get banged up by season's end. Saturday was a big day for all of the boys, can't be happier for them. Funny how things work out. When I first took that team it was very hard to get players as people look at you like you are some kind of pederast when you don't have a son and are coaching.............it's actually pretty ridiculous at first................and now people actually want their boys to come play on our team. Was an awesome year. Number 24, led the league in passing, last week he led us back from a 19-0 halftime deficit going something like 19-26 for 306 yards and seven tds in the second half. Was one of the most amazing things I have ever seen as in the 7-8 year old level I get to stand in the huddle and call the plays and we spread the offense and went with four wide and a single set back, which was number 22 who is the baddest boy in the league at fullback and mike backer, and that kid would just step up to the line......see if someone was uncovered and either run the draw or hit the darn open man. Was so firggin cool to watch. Not another team in the league has more than 300 total yards passing on the season, to put that in perspective, for what that kid was able to accomplish this season........what a stud. We ultimately won 48-19 as the extra points are apparently harder to come by..........who knew. Anyway, sorry for the long post, but I'm proud of those boys. The one in the front #11 is turning 9 this year and has been with me for three years now and broke his wrist running hard...........how can't you brag on them a little bit?

Cheers

I'm glad I checked out this thread. Keep ut the good work, FDC:00hour

In case you're lookin' to advance your career, I hear there will be an opening for a head coach at LSU in the near term:shrug:

Hey if you need anything at all for your bantam/peewees let me know, not like you need any help dude please don't take it like that I just meant if you wanted playbook or some helpful websites or such.

FDC, I meant to respond to this a while back and never got around to it. I would love to look at any info or websites you could direct me to. I coach defense so would be especially interested in anything you had on "D", but anything would be interesting to look at.

As far as offense goes, our coach runs the double wing, what if any opinion do you have of the double wing?

Thanks for any help! I have learned a lot coaching the last 3 years, but I know I could learn a lot more...

Blitz,
Here is an excellent website that will have many options you may find valuable. playbook

The double wing is a common offense in Bantam league football as it is somwhat easy to teach but is largely inneffective unless you are pulliing your guards and you have a very solid line. The double wing has never really been considered as a good bantam type defene by many because of its predictability. It is a very good offense to run maybe 7-9 plays out of but it is very difficult to take advantage of the plays available to you that might be more effective when you are running multiple offenses. I actually have a game plan prior to every game and after practice my skill players have to watch film. The issue I have with the double wing is that lack of ability to run a bunch of misdirection. While you can do it out of the double, it is much easier to teach and run the wing t. Much more misdirection and confusion for the defense and if you can get them to understan over pursuit, you won't lose anothr game. get my email from jack and I give youa few other sites and such
