Look-

Those who post records in my opinion are doing it primarily for either recognition, a pat on the back, or with the hopes of tearing it up and starting a service.

Yes, there are some great people here at Jack's that don't fall into those categories, but I do think that generalization is true. The reward for longtime members here is that we know over time who to keep an eye on.

I could imagine some might do it for the recognition. As you stated, longtime members know who to keep an eye on either way. I personally post and update my records for all sports. good, bad, or ugly. I do this for my own personal use and keep track of my units +/- in a file on my computer. Sports betting is a hobby of mine and my main source of entertainment, but I take it very seriously. I'm not a big fan of throwing away my money and would stop completely if I didn't make a profit. I agree with Hawkeye. It's a plus when tailing someone on here has a good reputation and a posted record does help. For all of the great members on this site, there are even more lurkers out there. If I'm gonna give someone advice on who to lay their hard earned money on, the least I can do is let them know my track record. Just my take...

On the course!
You wanna know something, Sponge? About 6-7 years ago, when I "took this shit dead serious", I had TWO separate site owners email me and ask me if I would host my own section on their sites.

I think it was because I am a fairly decent writer, and put those skills to use on their sites. That, and when I gave you a play with a Wisconsin based team playing, you could put the money in your pocket far more often than not.

But, posting plays here and there is a lot easier than having to crank them out for the masses on a daily basis. Besides.......The odds and time constraints caught up, and that's no fun.

I think this is what im trying to say. I know it sounds lazy but im crunching shit all the time. One time i was keeping records on the nba threads and i couldn't find a post of mine and i looked for 20 minutes. I just got so frustrated i stop doing it. By the way im not sure why, but nobody has ever asked me to post anywhere for my writing skills:shrug:

I did once when I used to win with the NBA (actually got paid :00hour ). That's how I met DTB and then came to this site. I can't pick my nose now, and I don't pretend to be able to do so.

I think record keeping is a good thing, however, there are good guys who don't and never did keep records.

DTB and I have discussed several times how at the start of football season how everybody has a record, then, through losing plays or disinterest, fewer and fewer post a record each week until only the diehards are left.

Boy, isn't that the truth!

when i was in sales i used to keep my own weekly results on a bulletin board by my desk....it made me a better slaesman by doing this..

i have carried that over to my capping...like sales i keep weekly tabs of my results along with doing a self analysis of why i played certain games & why i didn't....fwiw i think it's made me a better capper...

I agree with Hawk. This forum used to be filled with some really good cappers that not only posted a play but had at least a solid paragraph of reasoning supporting the play. Today go ahead and look at the MLB and NFL forums. 90% of the threads just post plays with no supporting facts and no record.

Even worse than that is what happened yesterday. A certain well respected (for what reason, I have no idea) poster in the bases forum posted 7 plays, leading several players on them I'm sure. Later the guy had the nerve to say that he was only on one of the plays. That pissed me off and Im glad he had yet another losing day, but felt really bad for the guys that followed. It seems that if you post those big guns beside your plays you must be creditable. What a joke.

I'll be back posting when NCAA foots and hoops get rolling along and I will provide record and analysis.

Good post Hawk
Great post Spang. I said the same thing years ago about him but nobody wanted to listen so I just gave up. There are 2 reasons why he doesnt post a record. It would be terrible and it would be hard to keep track of 10 plays a day with no rating system but smiley faces and machine guns. I remember the game of the century when he had a service that lost by about 4 touchdowns. :mj07:
