Right behind you
Now selfishness, that is saying "I want me free healthcare, unemployement and food stamps - and I want someone else to pay for it!".

Manning up is saying "I'll take care of myself, thank you".

Hmmm... who is selfish here, Mr. Cradle to Grave entitlement liberal? Wanna get as much free stuff as you can, while other people work to support you, don't you?

SPONGE is the perfect handle for you - as all you want to do is SPONGE off of society, and other people's hard work. Quite a lifesytle - one to be proud of!

Hey, Mr. MagsCoward, why don't you take a break from being an asshole and pay attention?

We liberals don't want something for nothing. I'm perfectly willing, always have been, to pay my share. In fact I'm quite certain that I've paid far more in than you have. I paid the maximum SS for 45 consecutive years, and the maximum Medicare for 40 years. I've paid every penny I owed in Federal, state and local taxes. I've never collected one cent in unemployment, food stamps, or income assistance. In return, I want my socialistic benefits.

I want government provided education, for all, K-12. I want decent roads. I want effective police and fire protection. I want my food, water, air and drugs to be safe.

I want retirement benefits and medical care.

And I want all my fellow citizens to have the same things. Rich, poor, black, white, decent folks and assholes - we all share the same country and we should all receive the same essential benefits.

Some of us will contribute more than others, and some of us will receive more than others. That's the luck of the draw, just like insurance.

You are in favor of insurance, aren't you? Car insurance, house insurance, Old Age and Survivors Insurance, Unemployment Insurance?

Non-essentials, a fancy house, car, airplane, beach house, vacations in France - those are non-essentials. If you can figure out how to earn enough to have those things, great. If you cannot, then make do with just the basics, but everyone should have the necessities of life, not just the more fortunate.

Those who would deny their obligation to help fellow citizens, those selfish bastards who think they are so smart, when in fact they are simply lucky, people like you, Mr. Coward, are enough to gag a maggot.

Hey Dipsh*t - not one thing I wrote had ANYTHING to do with race. Even though that is your normal process - to make it a race issue - it wasn't discussed in that manner, nor were there ANY inferences to race.

I truly believe that YOU are a racist however - because every response you make seems to bring race into a conversation where it didn't exist.

Yes, Scott, you as a 50+ year old white guy living in the south - clearly must be a racist. You fit the profile and continually bring up race in your posts.

Probably have a Conferederate flag in your front yard.

But leave me out of your racists thoughts and comments. We are more advanced in the North - in fact, we beat the crap out of you guys to free the slaves, if you remember right. I'm sure you are still smarting from that defeat.

Let me guess, self centered because I want the government to get out of the way? To eliminate the added taxes and regulation?

As you saw from Stimulus, the government is just wasting money. All economies have ebs and flows - cyles, if you will. They go down and in time they rebound. They will do this on their own, without government intervention.

Now selfishness, that is saying "I want me free healthcare, unemployement and food stamps - and I want someone else to pay for it!".

You seem to have it all figure out. Could it be i just think u are an asshole and don't collect any of those things u listed? You say u want gov't out of ur life but not one peep out of u when the Patriot act was signed. Not one peep out of u when abortion gets attacked and the Republicans want to tell the woman what to do. Not one peep out of u when they (as in Republicans get it) snuck in that bullshit about gambling at the 11th hour with the Patriot act. Not one peep out of u when those phony fuks were acting like they cared about the Terry Shaivo nonsense. Where were you when all this was going on? Im all for
capatalism but there is a certain segment of our society that needs to be regulated. You i would put in that segment. A thief in a clown suit.

DURHAM ? University of New Hampshire and outside researchers are creating a computer model to help organic dairy farmers cut greenhouse gas emissions such as methane, because Beano probably isn't an option.

Nitrogen- and carbon-based greenhouse gases are produced via a complicated system at dairy farms that is affected by everything from the weather to the soil to the feed to cow burps, among other things.

"Cows emit most of their methane through belching, only a small fraction from flatulence," said the project's principal investigator, Ruth Varner of UNH's Institute for the Study of Earth, Oceans and Space.

UNH has been awarded a $700,000 U.S. Department of Agriculture grant to create a computer model that measures the amount of greenhouse gases an organic dairy farm produces and thus provide ways to cut those emissions.

UNH has won a $700,000 to grant to study greenhouse gas emissions from organic dairies, which are cause by cow burps, among other things. (COURTESY)
Varner said the study will focus on the waste streams at farms. Using UNH's own organic dairy farm as a testing ground, researchers will measure things like how spreading manure on pastures will affect the amount of greenhouse gases produced.

The idea is to use the various factors to create a computer model that farmers can use to plug in data for their own farms.

"The real goal is to get a decision support tool that captures the very complicated biology of these systems and uses rigorous science that can support the model results," said Bill Salas, president of Applied GeoSolutions LLC, which is creating the computer model.

Salas said even small changes in the system -- such as changing what type of feed animals receive -- can ripple through the system and affect how much greenhouse gas is made.

There are many ways to cut how much gas is produced, such as leaving manure out rather than putting it in water, Salas said. The question is how to do it best at an organic dairy. What works for one dairy may not work for another, he said.

The computer model will be tested with Londonderry-based Stonyfield Farms and Organic Valley, of Wisconsin.

The grant will also be used to create programs meant to improve the competitiveness of organic livestock and crops, which tend to be significantly more expensive.

Well, that's a great use of taxpayer money. Genius.

What could be done with 700K?
Supply about 250,000 gallons of heating oil for the elderly and shelters.
Operate a food pantry for 5 years or more.
70 college grants of $10,000 for deserving students.
Road/bridge repairs.
Healthcare assistance for seniors.
Conservation land preservation.
Hot lunch programs in schools.
Books for schools.

Welcome to the United States of Europe!
- Gunner, Tampa

So... Cows are farting and burping... I'm confused as to why this is affecting the climate now, but hasn't for the rest of the God-knows how long cows have been around on the planet... And why no other animals are contributing... And why none of the other posts about this have thought about that yet...

Neo cons say cut spending , we need to cut spending.

OK how ?

Uh well uhhhh we could uhhhhhhh

How about stopping this kind of chit.

And if you were able to track down how this grant was approved you would find out it was a old time term limit Senator millionaire taking care of his home state for doing a favor for someone and getting a free vacation or money under the table.

its amazing Mags and DTBlackassgumby cant understand this concept of cutting spending.

Mags the Republican gets up at 6 a.m. and fills his coffeepot with water to
prepare his morning coffee. The water is clean and good because some
tree-hugging liberal fought for minimum water-quality standards. With
his first swallow of water, he takes his daily medication. His
medications are safe to take because some stupid commie liberal fought
to ensure their safety and that they work as advertised. All but $10
of his medications are paid for by his employer's medical plan because
some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical
insurance - now Mag's gets it too.

Mags (the hand job) prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs. Mag's bacon is safe
to eat because some girly-man liberal fought for laws to regulate the
meat packing industry. In the morning shower, Mags reaches for his
shampoo. His bottle is properly labeled with each ingredient and its
amount in the total contents because some crybaby liberal fought for
his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it
contained.

Mag's dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he
breathes is clean because some environmentalist wacko liberal fought
for the laws to stop industries from polluting our air. He walks on
the government-provided sidewalk to subway station for his government-
subsidized ride to work. It saves him considerable money in parking
and transportation fees because some fancy-pants liberal fought for
affordable public transportation, which gives everyone the opportunity
to be a contributor.

Mags (the hand job) begins his work day. He has a good job with excellent pay, medical
benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some lazy
liberal union members fought and died for these working standards.
Mag's employer pays these standards because Mag's employer doesn't
want his employees to call the union
. If Mags is hurt on the job or
becomes unemployed, he'll get a worker compensation or unemployment
check because some stupid liberal didn't think he should lose his home
because of his temporary misfortune.

Mags likes to email his friends. He likes to talk on the phone. He is
secure in his knowledge that everything he says in the email and on
the phone is secure and that no one is listening in or reading his
mail because those commie liberal constitution framers believed that
Joe had the right to privacy.(oops the Republicans killed this right)
It is noontime and Mags needs to make a
bank deposit so he can pay some bills.

Mag's deposit is federally insured by the FSLIC because some godless
liberal wanted to protect Mag's money from unscrupulous bankers who
ruined the banking system before the Great Depression. Mags has to pay
his Fannie Mae-underwritten mortgage and his below-market federal
student loan because some elitist liberal decided that Mag and the
government would be better off if he was educated and earned more
money over his lifetime. Mag's also forgets that his in addition to his
federally subsidized student loans, he attended a state funded
university.

Mag's is secure in his walk to the bank with the knowledge that no
police agency has the right to arrest and jail him without due process
and probable cause.(Republicans constantly working to ruin this right) He has the right to an attorney, a jury of his
peers and to be brought before a magistrate in a timely fashion. His
family has the right to know he has been arrested. Again Mag's can thank
those commie constitution framers
.

Mag's is home from work. He plans to visit his father this evening at
his farm home in the country. He gets in his car for the drive. His
car is among the safest in the world because some America-hating
liberal fought for car safety standards to go along with the tax-payer
funded roads. He arrives at his boyhood home. His was the third
generation to live in the house financed by Farmers' Home
Administration because bankers didn't want to make rural loans. The
house didn't have electricity until some big-government liberal stuck
his nose where it didn't belong and demanded rural electrification.

He is happy to see his father, who is now retired. His father lives on
Social Security and a union pension because some wine-drinking, cheese-
eating liberal made sure he could take care of himself so Mags wouldn't
have to.

Mag's gets back in his car for the ride home, and turns on a radio talk
show. The radio host keeps saying that liberals are bad and
conservatives are good. He doesn't mention that the beloved
Republicans have fought against every protection and benefit Mag's
enjoys throughout his day. Mags the super hand job agrees: "We don't need those big-
government liberals ruining our lives! After all, I'm a self-made man
who believes everyone should take care of themselves, just like I have

Sounds like a wonderful life.

Easy question - if all those things are guarnteed to all, without having to work - as these are "rights", well it sounds like a pretty good life. Let's say 75% of the country choose this life. Who would pay for it all?

Don't you understand that this delusional system doesn't work? Do you see what is happening in France right now? That type of system only works when the diminishing working class is willing to support not only their family, but other familiies too, while other folks (of all races, creeds, religions, heights, weights, etc - had to put that in before Scott jumps in and tries to make it a racist thing as he always does) choose not to work and live off other folks hard work.

I don't buy the luck argument why some people are better off than others. Are you saying the only difference between Barack Obama and Christine O'Donnell is just plain luck???? :00hour

I just want to say one quiet comment:

I have met Mags in Las Vegas. I have met many who post in the different forums @MJ's. Scott shirked my invitation once while in Atlanta, yet I think he is as honest as they come, in my opinion.

Mags seems to be the same way. I respect Mags even though we are opposites in some politcal ways.

I see Mags' writings lately as going too far, as I have done in the past. It is easy to get caught up in cyber wars when we never see the face of those we debate. Mags has gone too far, as some others in this thread. I guess it portrays national sentiment to some extent?

Anyways, I vouch for Mags being a standup guy.

Just one idiot's opinion, me.

Hey Scotty just read about ur wife and I hope everything turns out okay. I would have told ya at the discussions site but I was a bad boy and got reprimanded over there. For some reason I can read it today unless I just didn't notice it lately. Becareful what u say on these type of sites. A guy like Maggot might want to notify all insurance companies that u may try to get her new insurance, and this will put a crimp on their bottom line.

As usual, Mags, you're too interested in running your mouth to pay attention. Put a piece of duct tape across your mouth (or typing fingers), and pay attention -

I want everyone to get a decent 12 year education. That does not mean that their parents do not work and pay taxes.

I want clean air and water and food and drugs for everyone, and I want as many as possible to work and pay the taxes which provide those things.

I want everyone to be able to have adequate medical, and I want everyone who can work to pay taxes for that program.

I do not want anyone to "choose" not to work and get a free ride, but I do want those of us who CAN work to help those of us who cannot.

Yes, the difference between Obama and O'Donnell is luck.

Obama was lucky to be born with above average intelligence. O'Donnell not so lucky.

Obama was lucky to have a mother and grandparents who insisted the he get a good education. O'D not so lucky.

Obama was lucky to be born into a family which was responsible about raising him. O'D?

Obama was lucky to be taught self reliance and self respect. O'D not so lucky.

Obama was lucky to find and marry a bright and responsible wife. O'D not so lucky.

Obama was unlucky to be born of mixed race. O'D was luckier to be white.

Both have had good luck in freedom from serious illness and accident.

But because Obama had good luck in other areas, he overcame his racial handicap and was elected President.

Obama will never need to be a leach on working folks.

O'Ds good luck with race was not enough to overcome her back luck in other areas. She has never been anything but a leach, never earning enough to support herself.

Now I ask you, Mags, where would you be if your parents had been uneducated, dirt poor WV hillbillies?

Where would you be if you'd been born autistic?

Where would you be if you'd been abandoned by a crack-whore Mama?

Where would you be if you'd contracted ALS ten years ago?

Where would you be if you had a sixth grade education and had spent your working life as a loom fixer?

I've been lucky and so have you. Not everyone is.
