If you can, buy the one Judge cited. I bought one a few months ago for my mom and paid $150 with a "professional courtesy" discount.

my experience with pulse oximeters like the one listed is that they aren't terribly reliable.

your mom's symptoms and breathing pattern will be more reliable than a cheap SaO2 monitor anyway.

I have 2 messages out to my 2 most knowledgeable co-workers on this subject, and I'll let u know.

just be wary that it's not a definitive sure-fire thing. How she looks, feels, and acts are more important.

good man...i had the same set-up.....not to be a bother, but, how`s her health other than the copd?....how old is she?...

if you don`t feel like discussing it,i understand...
diagnosed (sp) with the COPD about 5 years ago, maybe it was 6. was on the oxygen for about 1 year and did so well they took her off it.

then she started smoking again and things got real bad in the last 6 months leading to a 4 day hospital stay last week. now she's on the program for life, along with about 6 prescriptions, high blood pressure, swollen legs/ankles that may never go back down and her memory is getting really bad.

other than that, everything is just fine

she is not liking being inconvenienced by all this crap because she's pretty active with shopping and 4 nights of bingo a week.

she just asked me to take to her shopping tomorrow so i guess i will. i think she wants to see how she does with the portable oxygen tank before she heads out on her own.

she'll be 79 in november.

i was doing a friday evening out for shopping(with a wheelchair) and dinner with my mother and better half(when she felt like it)...she had copd and that curtailed her running the mall in the last few years..of course she had a double mastectomy and colon cancer along the line...the colon cancer was in 97` and the doctor gave her a year....the chemo did it`s job and she was cancer free the last 10 tears until she passed in 2007..but her memory really suffered...it frustrated her and really affected her quality of life...but,she still got out right up until the end(with her chauffeur:D )and was reasonably fit and active(other than the long distance walking)....

turns out that maybe her copd wasn`t as bad as they thought...she had a thickening of the aorta(very common in elderly women) and several blockages....she was a little too sick from infection at the end for the major heart surgery she needed......she ended up on a respirator and that was pretty tough...

was just wondering whether your mom ever had her vascular system examined...and whether she was strong enough to possibly handle an angioplasty if it were necessary...was wondering if something like that could improve the circulation to her legs and maybe even help her memory....

just talking out loud...i know what you`re going through......i still question some of my decisions and probably made some bad ones along the line...it`s tough...

best of luck to your mom....maybe she`ll bounce back again....as i said, they gave my mom a year and she had 10 pretty good ones...

much love...hang in there bud...
