have to keep this "publicity stunt" going. :D

finally busted the 212 wall and weighed-in at 210 the last 3 days.

maybe i'll detail this plan and start selling it in the "National Enquirer".

ya never know :)

from 244 to 210 in less than 90 days. a 14% weight reduction.
from tight 40" pants to comfortable 36" pants (36x34 pants, my size in highschool).

just sharing something positive to the forum.

after i hit 199 i will give the stop smoking a try again.

(my apologies to the members who may be offended by this publicity stunt of mine that is obviously posted to gain "HITS" to the site)

very nice !!

i haven't weighed myself since my last time...so don't know what i weigh at this point.

don't understand why people would knock you on this....i think it's a great accomplishment & something that you should be proud of....& nothing wrong with talking about this.

now...i hope that i will be able to recognize you in a few weeks (lol)

congrats! Not the healthiest of diets, but I would say it's more unhealthy over the long run to be fat.

why?
drinking more water than ever. eating more veggies then ever, getting more fruit than ever. no grease, no oils, no sugar, no fatty crap, no fast food, no subs, no pizza, no cakes and pies and doughnuts, no soft drinks.

what's unhealthy? seriously.

because you aren't exercising. Probably not getting enough calories either. Not dogging you though as I think it's great you're losing weight.

I'd say you'll live longer at 210 smoking than you would at 325 not smoking. The great majority of my patients that are under 60 are either obese or they have a huge history of illicit drug use. Obesity is a bigger problem than smoking, imho. Congrats on the weight loss, and better luck next time on the smoking cessation.

when i got back from vegas i weighed myself the next day (last tuesday). when i left i was down to 207.5 and when i got back i was 217 :scared

how in the hell can i gain 10 lbs in 5 days?

so, i was really hoping that it was water weight because of all the alcohol those guys made me drink :nono: and i really didn't over eat while out there but i did have a lot of the greasy fun food that i have missed for the last 3 months.

so, i went back on the "program" and one week later i just weighed in at 208. it must have been water retention.

this program is no fun at all and takes a lot of discipline. i'm starting to think this is how i'm going to have to live and eat for the rest of my time if i want to keep the weight down.

maybe i should add a regular exercise program so i can increase my calorie intake?

anyway, in my morning boredom i thought i would add to this "publicity stunt" :142smilie

trick is to build lean muscle which will burn calories all by itself. everyone thinks the trick to burn calories/fat is to do cardio. While cardio is very important for your heart it isn't the best way to burn cals. Your body stops burning calories a couple of mins after you jump off the treadmill. On the other hand, by lifting weights and breaking down muscle tissue your body then has to exert tremendous effort (which means calorie burning) to rebuild the tissue and this process can take up to 48hrs. Thus the typical soreness the day after lifting. You don't have to lift heavy weight, consistency is way more important.

Jack -- are you still consuming the same amount of calories? I think it's great that you have lost all of this weight. I agree with 65 that you are probably taking in too few calories to be really healthy and very long-term sustainable. I think now that you are getting closer to your target weight (actually under your first two targets -- CONGRATS!), then you should get back to a better daiy calorie number. An adult male will naturally burn 14-16 calories per pound without controlled exercise.

I would maybe look at moving your calories up to match a 195 pounder which would be 2925. Now that you are accustomed to the lower amount of calories, you will think you are feasting! And you will still be maintaining (or quite possibly losing) your weight.

But other than that, this is a much healthier plan than most.

Keep up the great work, and quit junking up your forum with stunts!

i think you're right!

i am leaning this way and will be trying this out and monitoring the weight to see what happens.

total guess here, but since my body is accustomed to 1500 cals a day for over 3 months, i'll probably gain some at the beginning but eventually start back down to near the 200 mark.

yup, i think i'll be trying this real soon.

From what I have read you should really never take in less than 10 calories/pound as an adult male, but I don't know how valid that is. If you add exercise, you should probably consider adding calories. Maybe up to 16 calories per pound and monitor.

If you are monitoring closely, then you will be able to tell just how many calories your body naturally burns.

I thought I would chime in. I think I have some helpful hints. 4 years ago, at 18, I weighed 326, I am down to 210. Here are some foods that I ate that helped me lose and keep off weight.

Fruit Yoghurt- Each container has less than 100 calories and if you try different flavors, I guarantee you will find one you like.

Egg Whites- Great source of lean protein

Lots of chicken- Easiest way to eat healthy is grilled chicken breasts

My biggest tip, though, is probably to limit the amount of refined sugras and white flour in your diet. Its as simple as buying whole weat bread, pasta, tortillas rather than the normal white kind. I admit that some of the brands taste like shit, but you will find ones that you enjoy.

GFan, i do just about everything you suggest. thanks

im not a big fan for chicken but you get a lot of volumn for less calories. a lot more than most major foods.

i eat a lot of salads with low fat dressings, drink lots of water, lean ground beef without the roll, seafood grilled or steamed, lots of soups and a chitload of fruit.

If you are going to exericse while losing weight, you need to add those calories into your diet. For example, if your number of calories is 2000/day (based on your calculation), but you run for an hour and burn 500 calories, you should actually consume 2500 calories. Your calculation is based on normally activity, so if you add activity, you need to account for the calories you are burning.

I sit at a desk for work, if you took a twin of me, but he did construction for a living, he would need a few thousand more calories a day than me.

Congrats Jack, I have been following the calorie counting method (on and off) for a few years. It is very hard to do sometimes, especially with restuarants. There are quite a few websites (and pocket books) that list almost all major chain and their caloiress.

2 things to note... 1) it is not just the counting, it is the type of calories. A big mac has 500 calories, eating 3 a day is not the same as eating chicken breast, yogurt, etc. 2) if you start exercising, do not get angry when the pounds don't shed. You are adding muscle, which weighs more than fat.

update:

blew the weight gain in vegas right off and hit a new low for this diet as i weighed in this morning. so obviously the vegas weight gain was water weight from exxcess alcohol consumption.

weighed in today at 206.5

starting weight for this diet: 244
starting goal: 220
today's weight: 206.5
total loss: 37.5 lbs
percent loss: 15.36%
new goal: break 200
starting waist for pants: a tight 40" waist
pants now: loose 36" waist

i haven't changed anything just yet as i still maintain 1500 calories per day.

anybody who wants to lose weight can do it with discipline and lowering their calorie intake and keeping a diary of everything you take into your body.

the publicity stunt will be continued.

yea, it's about right but i still have flab in the mid section. i guess i'm going to have to actually work that off? sit-ups? i have an abs-lounge but i'm a lazy mutha and it's still in the basement. if i could just move my excess flab from the mid section to my legs, i'd be a happy guy and totally satisfied.

thanks for the info, snoozer. restaurants have been pretty much eliminated from my diet since march. when i do go to the chains (rarely) most of their websites list the nutrition facts in their menus.

anything from mcdonalds has been completed eliminated. subway has a few good selections. the sit down chains, it's pretty much salads, seafood, and chicken that i'll do.
