Went in for a supplier meeting today with the slaes tema and management. Had lunch with the everyone... Got called in to the office, and was laid off/terminated/ whatever you want to call it!!!

Single dad with custody of child, now in crappersville with this economy... not too mention my stock purchase yesterday!!!

Oh well, sitting down to do unemployment, and figure out my what the juicy details are!! Not looking good, as I am going to also have to pay Cobra insurance after February, the said they would pick up the tab until then... wonder what that cost will be as I have not been on COBRA before, and need the insurance for me and the child. (Never would risk it, my son is my life!!)

Oh well, thought and prayers wouldn't hurt here, as numerous people are in the same situation!!!

Damn dogface....sorry for what has happened. What kind of work are you looking for and where? Best of luck and keep sending resumes out. Any kind of settlement from them for a few months? Not sure about COBRA for you, but a friend of mine pays $700 a month for he and his 2 children :scared GL dude.

Good Luck Dog,

I got laid off October 29th myself....a lot so
SUPPORT here on MJ's

Been on unemployment since then. Basically, you will get a 'termination of employment letter/date' and bring the letter to the UE office. Your benefits will start from that date, at least in TN you have wait two weeks until payment and they pay the week you waited on the third check   ,you can go on-line each week to certify you have not worked, which is easy to do...

COBRA on the other hand is a differenct BEAST!!! I have 3 kids and wife and it was $1800.00/month for medical/dental, that went up from 120.00/month when employed...Luckily my company is covering insurance during severance.

GOOD LUCK and you are in my prayers!!!

Oh yeah,

I don't know how old your child is, you can insure him with Medicaid through your state until you find employment!!

What kind of work do you want to do, what area do you live in and what salary bracket are you used to.

I realize these are private questions so get my e-mail from Jack if you want.

I may be able to help.

Thanks for the words gents, and advice!

I will have to check out on the insurance for both of us, etc. I did not understand COBRA to be like that, good gosh!!!

I will explore options, I was only with the company a little over two years, so not much of a severance. Paid through Feb, then vacation added, and also they will cover the insurance until end of Feb. as well.

I am a 39 year old male that has a M.Ed, B.S. In Marketing Education.

I was doing sales in the Chemical Distribution industry, prior to that I was in Pharma: Women's Health, and Cardiovascular Medicine. I have also taught for 4 years on the HS level.

Jack- Feel free to give penguinfan my e-mail, as I will take any potential for help in this matter with the mass layoffs and the glut of people looking, it may be a little more difficult to seperate myself going forward, so now it will be a numbers game.

Thanks Gents!!

You definitely will want to take out another health insurance policy than do COBRA. Look into high deductible policies where you essentially pay everything out of pocket with a yearly max of say $2500. If your kid is healthy, and you are just doing check-ups and or sick-visits, then your monthly savings in premiums should more than offset any medical expenses you may have. I pay $212 a month for my wife, two year old son and myself. We have a $5000 deductible. For full coverage policy with co-pays and all the bells and whistles, it was going to be $700+ per month. Check-ups are cheap and so are sick visits. If something catastrophic happens to one of us, then $5000 is the least of our troubles. Hospitals and doctors also take payment plans if that happens. Good luck to you.

another thing dog..

as you start to look for another job. be careful of monster, careerbuilder, the ladders.com etc.,, I joined the ladders b/c they offer only 6 figure jobs...

it's not worth it. they get hundreds, if not thousands of resumes for every job. the CHANCE of them 'clicking' on your resume is small. I have had 3 recruiters look at my resume since November:142smilie :142smilie

It's really a 'shot in the dark' not to mention sll the blast/spam email from resume spiders, etc.

Word of mouth/contacts is the way to go...GOOD LUCK

Things seem to have a way to work out for the best in the end. It may not feel like that now but I'm a strong believer in that. Hang in there man.

I disagree with Lawtchan. Put your resume out as much as you can. Post it in Monster, Careerbuilder, Yahoo Hotjobs and anywhere else you can.(I'm not sure where you live so I don't know what's a popular site for your area). I will say that it may be annoying because mainly recruiters only use the resume database but they have jobs that you will never hear about. It may not work but I can guarantee it won't hurt you to try. You may get tons of calls with recruiters bugging you but hey it may turn over a rock that you wouldn't have know to look under.

Also, when you're posting your resume MAKE SURE you put if you're willing to move to another area. When I search the resume databases I look for people in other states that are willing to move to Texas. If you don't check that you are I'll never call. Maybe you're not willing to move but in todays economy you may have to for a few years.

If you're willing to move to Texas let me know, I'm in medical here and know a lot of companies. I also talk with a lot of recruiters from other companies so you never know.

I wish you the best!

Thanks again for the responses, and Kneifl good luck with the interviews this week!!!

I will explore and and everything.

I live in MN, and am not relocatable unfortunately.
I have custody of my son, but ex lives in state and leaving the state is not a possibility. I know it limits some opps, but can't do anything there.

Anyone else in the Mpls / St. Paul area let me know.

Penguinfan, maybe IE will shoot you an e-mail in Jack's absence.
