I think, was in a 3.5 hour interview getting drilled with questions yesterday. Some of the questions I have never even heard in an interview setting before. It was left off yesterday that we would speak on the phone or email in the next few days about base+comm structure. It's an IT sales job that I really want and would be able to work from home. Have phone interview tomorrow with a different, unrelated company that is about 2 miles away from me and pays very well. Hopefully, it all works out. We'll see and I got a good feeling about it.

I have been laid off since last July and went looking for job first two weeks of last August. When it was apparent that the job market wasnt gonna improve and likely get worse(which it did)...I enrolled to technical college. That way you can draw unemployment benefits for up to two years while you attend school full-time and making satisfactory progress in school.

IMHO going to school to ride out the poor economy is the proper thing to do. Getting education(paid for by the state), getting bi-weekly unemployment, and a chance to add your education to your resume.

So, thats what I did to ride out the economy.

Hope this helps, DF!

Good Luck Kneifl!! I hope you land the one you want, quite a relief I bet when it happens!!

TheWizard- Thanks for the info. I already have my M.Ed, I suppose I could add to it, but to be honest, I am tired of further schooling. ;( Unless I see a fit in a potential career change, but the Unemployment benefits will not cover my expenses unfortunately.

Enjoy the big day today!!

Disagree 99% with Kniefl on his comments about recruiters. If you have GOOD recruiters in your particular industry and maintain relationships with them, they do care because you are money to them. Also, I always try to refer people I know if they (recruiters) ask because karma is a boomerang. Must be different in your world kniefl.

I really don't care what you think. I value everyone else's opinion in this thread. Your opinion has no value to me and probably many others. You have shown repeatedly on this forum that you're an ass clown and everyone knows it.

Fortunately, I've been offered a sales job with a start date of 2/16 after about a month of looking.

Very immature post here.

Your blanket opinion of recruiters is pretty far off base.

But add me to the list of "ass clowns" that you don't value their opinion.

Good luck with your new position. Congrats on being hired so quickly in this economy.

I disagree Jason. Go check some of his previous posts towards me and you'll see. Not immature at all - immature of you to stick your nose in here - yes.

My opinion of recruiters only comes from friends who are recruiters and tell me what it's all about. I guess like Marine said they must be 3rd party recruiters.

BTW, my new sales position is in SEO sales. I was going to e mail you about it thinking you might know something about it, but guess I didn't need to.

I also said that I'd be much more wary working with an internal corprate recruiter than with an independent 3rd party recruiter.

Just like any industry, there are bags of turds in recruiting.
But the turd factor is more a result of the organization they work for, rather than their individual decision to be a dirtbag.

I've only once dealt with an internal recruiter. They were real nice and I told them what I wanted and it was eventually agreed upon.

A lot of my friends who are recruiters say they only care about the organization and the position they are hiring for, candidates are like fish in a sea, there are always lots of them. They will eventually find the best fit.

So I guess I think it would be easier to find the dirtbag in the second set. However, I haven't worked with 3rd party recruiters that much at all, maybe once or twice. Also, when I have it's been to try to break into a different industry.

If you want to go into a different industry it's probably best to go to the C level decision makers, or in simple terms "the people who are higher up on the totem pole." No one wants to pay a recruiters fee and if your resume jumps out at them they'll probably give you a shot. It's all about who you know, contacts, and connections.

recruiting fees are nothing in the big picture of things. get that thru your head.

in most organizations.. hiring a candidate internally has an average cost of 6-10k. a fee to a 3rd party is gonna be very similiar.
fees are not an issue most places.

c-level guys are great to network with.. but rarely are the hiring managers below them going to hire someone just because a c-level guy says so. they may interview you because of it.. but the actual people that hire are the ones you want to schmooze. not the c-level, not the recruiters.

Being devil's advocate it could have more to do with the "friend" part than the "recruiter" part. :)

I would be more than happy to answer any questions (that I can) about SEO sales, but it's not my expertise.

If you want contact information from some of my friends who are in the industry let me know. I'm good friends with the Managing Director at www.sitening.com, and I am sure she would be glad to answer any questions that you have.

kniefl,

If you read that as an asswipe comment, then you are very wrong. I guess I am not allowed to agree to disagree with you? It doesn't matter if it was Joe Blow that made your statement, I would have said the same thing. Geez, dude, get your panties out of a wad. Congrats on getting a position. You got it after only 1 interview? That is amazing in itself. I have tried to help several people find employment and given ideas. Sorry you took the hater approach.

Suppose to start work on Monday 2/16. I just got a call from another company who made an offer where the base is neck and neck, both commission scales are good. Looks like I have some thinking to do this weekend :scared :scared .

Equal pay, are the bennies equal as well? Company matches to 401k's similar? Work environment, products equal? Just some question for your thought process...

Congrats on getting two job offers... Nice!

This is roughly week 2, and I have an interview on Monday for Home Health Care Sales. Besides what I have read from their site and the job description... anyone got any info, or has anyone been associated with companies in this field?
