it's on my list now. thanks for contributing.

Jack, you are welcome, I am funded under 20K so can't risk getting labeled a day trader, (25K min account). I have had some good pops, (PFE, VLO, & EBS) and the one short of COF, lost a little on F & made $10 of DF. I am only holding COGT & MO right now. Started COGT @ $12.79 & MO @ $14.75. I add to MO's profit each smoke break.:mj07:

not as long as you have $25K minimum in your account, you can trade the same stock 50 times a day if you want. if you don't have $25K and they label you a day trader they won't let you buy for 60 or 90 days. only sell. they'll freeze you.

Vinnie , if i am not mistaken, u may have a cash only account, and not a margin account, if it is cash only even though a sell will credit the account, there is a manadtory waiting period of 3 days, for the sale to finalize.then the funds are unfrozen and availiable. at least that is what an ameritrade agent explained to me.

i have never personally bought a stock before , completely new to this. but want to learn.

question: if u purchase a stock and put a stop loss on it, and get stopped out , is this one trade or two, i know it is two, but will you be charged twice, or just once. is there anyway to buy and sell a stock , and only be charged once for such transaction.

i want to fund my account at ameritrade, and have been trading on paper, have done well in last 2 weeks, but with only a $2000 account. made over 35 trades(on paper) and have made $350 on it. that in % terms is good, given this market but if i add in the comm's then i would be down big time at $9.99 a trade, my comm's would be like $699 , and chew up at the profits.

seems to me that day trading can really only be done by big accounts. the little guys need to hold on to the stock a bit longer to overcome the comm's. just thinking .

Sub $40 oil screams a buy on DXO.

If it hits 2.50, the last 20% of cash I have will be going in.

Then I'll lose all the fun of buying and selling. :)

I think I'm going to follow you on this. I like the thinking.

Ameritrade is no where close to the best choice for active traders (whether you trade daily or not).

A few that are good candidates to look into:

www.interactivebrokers.com
www.thinkorswim.com

PADRE, take a look at Tradeking, it is only $4.95 per trade. It is working well for me so far.

Anyone know anything bad about them, chime in.

Who do you use ?

Currently, the only broker I actively use is Interactive Brokers. The pricing and services (not customer service) are close to unbeatable, BUT it is not for new traders because it is not user friendly.

Think or Swim is probably where I would guide most new traders if they have continued to improve their service offerings. I have not used them in about 2 years, but it was a very friendly interface to use.

I have also used Scottrade and another one that I don't recall right now in the past.
