Guys,

These posts are great. I really appreciate all the input. We want to live in a place that is neighborly and safe.

We've tossed Nashville into the discussion, but we don't know much about it. The biggest reason we discussed Boston is that there is a medical billing company there that my wife had been approached to work for in the past, but we weren't ready to move.

We'd like to be some place that has natural beauty, and isn't far from places like the beach, or mountains, etc.

As for Portland, we've tossed that area into the equation as well, but isn't that area pretty darn expensive with regards to housing? I guess that's the good thing about Dallas, is that houses here are cheaper than other areas in the country.

I'm tired of no rain here in Dallas. I like rain, and with the exception of this past spring, we haven't had much lately.

Keep the info coming.:00hour

Portland, but not the one out west, the one in Maine is the answer to all your problems.

~ 2 hours north on Boston. Great little city. On the coast, close to the mountains, extremely green & scenic. Tons of stuff to do, clean & VERY little crime.

The number one job market in Nashville is the medical/hospital field:shrug:

If you want mountains and the beach, I would suggest North or South Carolina

Ah. But the job market?

Thousands of others do just fine there.....

I dont think the job market is too poor in Portland. Seeing as it is the biggest city in Maine & the center of commerce for the state.

Other areas of Maine it may be a problem, but cant see how if it fits all your wants & desires for a place to call home, you couldnt make it happen....

I love virginia. Beautiful place for sure.

As for Nashville, my wife works in medical field, which makes her in demand in most places.

As for Portland, I will do some research over the next few days.

typical cliche thing to say. yes it's expensive in boston, and ny. but, they are great places to live because the jobs are higher paying than a raleigh or a cincinnati.

Typical cliche thing to say?! It's because it's true you jackass. I spent 18 years living right outside of NY, have family living all over New England, and have spent time in the south (NC) and now midwest (OH). I think I'm pretty qualified to state a universal truth...that someone who says that income is limited has no business moving to Boston of all places. Income doesn't increase proportionally enough to justify moving into an area like boston when finances may be an issue.
It's funny that you say they are great places to live because they pay higher than other cities. That makes absolutely no sense. Increased wages doesn't mean much when your dollar buys much less. You talk like someone who has never left NY...oh wait, you haven't.

We don't make a lot per year on combined income.

What part about this quote from the original poster doesn't make sense to you? Boston, of all places, would be one of the last areas I'd go to from texas if income is may be a factor.

everyone loves north carolina now a days, but ive read lots of people moving there who hated it, as they hate northerners 'invading' their space, but i could be wrong.

You finally got something right...about you being wrong. Having lived down there as a transplanted northerner for 9 years, I can tell you people down there don't care where you're from.

Hey genius, I didnt see the part that income was limited, relax with your ranting.... But tell me where in raleigh bumblefu*ck youll make what you do in new york? yeah its expensive, fair enough. you'll need to live in raleigh since you'll be paying off loans to clean peoples molars, which is well and good but thats understandable.....Why are mostly all the big banks/financial companies etc all based out of ny and boston then?
You repeated the same thing 5 times. if I saw he said income limited I'd say fine, not the best place to go. I assumed the job he/his wife whoever found, would be proportionate to reflect the higher expense place. actually I have left ny you clown, but not for a "southern slice of hell" or whatever you call it. If you dont believe that northerners have had problems down there, check out city-data.com message boards and read the long island section, it's got 20-30 people whove regretted moving down to bible land.

the only answer is, different ppl like different places, obviously....but it's such a silly simple idiotic comment to say "oh well cost of living is higher dont go there" sure....try comparing a school in an ny or boston nice suburb to somewhere in the bible belt or a gated community of arizona or vegas or even los angeles, forget it. you get what you pay for....good sense of community, great place for kids to grow up, great culture and food...expensive yes, pricing many my age out and i may move, but it's also got lots of good to offer too...theres a reason it's dirt cheap in some parts of the country, b/c theres not much there...everyone jizzes over raleigh yet i'm sure it's got downfalls too, no pro baseball team, nightlife cant sniff the jock of somewhere up north, etc and i lived in florida which is decent, but the dumb stereotypes need to stop, but theyre not surprising

I would make more money having an office in Raleigh than I would in NY. It's not something I think I can get through your noggin with explanation, so you'll have to take my word for it.

right oh holy one, it's very complicated :mj07: only someone with 12 zillion years of school can understand it  lower rent cost, less competition, less insurance costs, far offset the lower prices you can charge for crowns and such, am i wrong?

I would think that a major issue for any relocation would be the quality of life that said city would offer..Certainly weather has to be a very large factor in determining how great a quality of life you get from the relocation..

I am sure there are some really nice places to live in and around Boston..There are great places to live all over this country and abroad..

BUT..weather being a main issue.

The following just ain't my cup of tea..

Best of luck...

You hit the nail on the head. More important than cost of living, is how is it living there. I don't want to read stats on crime, etc...but I want to hear from people in the know that while a certain city may have a lot to offer, it may or may not be a good place to raise a family. We would be without family in any of the places we choose to go, and would like to know if the areas are neighborly and good people.

Where I live in north Dallas, as I stated, life is but a time to show others what you have compared to what they don't. Yes, there are great people here, but I seem to find more that could really care less about you than ones that do.

Obviously we wouldn't make a move that was a bad financial one for us. Income would have to increase significantly to move somewhere that the cost of living is dramatically more than Dallas.

But my main reason for asking is that I don't want to waste my time sending out resumes only to get the job, move there, and realize I moved my family to hell.

We want to be someplace that offers more than just shopping and sports teams. Dallas offers next to nothing when it comes to natural beauty. It is flat land and boring. Yes, the tits here are great, but again, they are part of the thing I just mentioned about showing others what you have compared to what they don't. Mo Money.

Thanks for all the comments. I hate to see anyone get pissed off, because this is just curiousity for me right now.

Thanks again.
