i'm a vegas 'rookie' and not made of money like some of you folks but i'm pumped to go out there, so I am fishing around for deals on hotels, etc, bothers me to waste a lot of $ on a hotel when I could be spending it on blackjack, sports betting, poker and booze/'women of the night' :mj07: :mj07:

Mike -

Not a Vegas rookie, but don't like to spend as much time in my room so I usually go with something less expensive so I can spend more money elsewhere. Here are some good places to stay for under $100/night.

* Almost all the hotels downtown, but I don't recommend staying downtown, it's too far away from the "action" which is on the strip.

* Circus Circus (never been there)

* Gold Coast (I recommend)

* Imperial Palace (great location, never been there, but have heard good things)

* Riviera (never been there)

* Sahara (great location, have heard good things)

* Stratosphere (never been there, heard good things

* Terrible's (never been there)

* Stardust (never been there, excellent sportsbook, great location)

* Casino Royale (Excellent location, I recommend)

* Wild Wild West (Never been there)

* New Frontier (Never been there)

Hope this helps,

kneifl

thanks John, appreciate the help :) even though I hate the cowboys and nebraska i'm sure you are ok in person, and the forums are just fun.......I am just like you in that I hate spending dough on hotels since I'd rather gamble with the money, good suggestions, I was looking at IP or Riviera, IP is a little more expensive though not by much, definitely not looking at downtown for reasons peoiple mentioned, certainly easier for people like ar182 (yet he is still whining about going even though he is such a short drive, try being on the NE and see how much longer it is) and rex and others out west than us from the northeast, but vegas is supposed to be great so certainly need to get out there soon if possible.....

The rooms at Stratosphere are crap but Terrible's is an absolute dive.

Fair enough AR, I phrased that wrong, I just meant that 5 hours via car is a hell of a lot more pleasant than 5 hours by plane, and I'm going to be leaving out of NY if I go.....of course people have other things going on naturally, I just meant you should be happy you're so close to a good place like vegas and it's so convinient for you to go at the drop of a hat anytime you want, thats pretty good, of course the people and food out west cant compare to NY and Boston I'm sure you know, but you have the weather, I'm off topic now anyway, hope to make it out there....

Yeah, New Yorkers are soooo friendly and there are no good restaurants In LA or Las vegas. :rolleyes:

I was referring to him living in Scottsdale, from what I understand, does not have the best food when compared to the gold standard plethora of options NY has.......of course Vegas has good restaurants, mostly chains though no? ie Palms etc or high end steakhouses which have multiple locations, not much originality.........friendly-wise, yeah I used my horn quite a bit this weekend up there when people try to cut you off, but driving in florida is no picnic either, people in other locations need to be a little more sarcastic w/a sense of humor like the northeast instead of being as faceless or boring as a jar of mayonaisse :shrug:

Not looked for room yet AR. Waiting for the wife to confirm what days they will let her off.Usually no prob but this one being prior to the 4th might only get a few days instead of entire week.Should know by Friday. Saw K's list--you got any suggestions. The 2 times I was there stayed at Riviera and the Mirage.
As with most--room not that big a deal to me as long as clean and got place to crash.

Imperial Palace I've been told is a good location and under new ownership, the bottom line is, some people care about the hotel and/or have the money to spend on it, and others like me and kniefl would rather skimp on hotel and gamble with the money, you dont go to vegas to stay in a hotel room anyway.....riviera and gold coast and IP are the ones I'm looking at, strat is in a shtty area, some others in weird locations, etc, so for the money I think those 2 are probably fine, if you require a nice expensive room and expect great service then you have to pay for that, I'd assume, you have to take the places for your needs and what they cost imo

No problem AR, no offense taken, sorry how I come off on here sometimes, just is the nature of an internet forum.....yeah obviously being late in a career/done w/a career as opposed to myself and other starting one is different, just would rather prioritize gambling (genius idea :mj07: ) and other stuff as opposed to hotel since I rarely get out to LV since NY is quite a ways from there.......Certainly dont blame you being a bit older to prefer not staying in a dive if you can afford to do so, many people I know would feel the same way, it's all like you said depends on what point of view....Now I see I will miss Mets/Yankees interleague at yankee stadium that weekend I was going to go to :sadwave: but oh well, it's one game, just sht always seems to fall when you miss something, but will just have to play this by ear and see what the situation looks like re: job getting time off, etc
