I've tried to quit about 2-3 times.

Not trying to rain on your parade but I doubt I could do it. I'm only a heavy smoker when I drink, otherwise it's 5-6 cigs a day. When I drink it's close to a pack every time.

I'd like to but I think I'm a lost cause after once quitting for 3 months straight (no cigarettes at all) and then steadily picking it back up again.

I've quit for 3 weeks once. Another time it was about 1.5 weeks, my worst attempt.

I know I've got to quit some time though.

To be honest, this weekend will be my last weekend of smoking. Only reason I am waiting till after the weekend is because I'm going out of town, with the boys and traveling to Montreal for a hockey game and night on the town.

Funny thing is.. the 20th is the Monday and I won't be smoking then so I'm with you. I've been reducing the cigarette intake for the past 2-3 weeks and am down to only 4-5 a day but.. some days are harder than others!

I'm going to be using some nicorette gum to help if I ever am feeling really down but.. Hope to do with solo!

Good luck to you and everyone else who has stopped smoking. Its a disgusting and life threating habit that no one should ever get involved with. I started when I was 18, I'm 30 now.. so.. I think its enough for me.

The reason I am quitting ----> CAUSE I WANT TO LIVE A LONG LIFE!!

Good Luck my friend and to all who make the descision.

PS. I'm also making some $$ in the process :) My friends think I wont quit so right now I got 2 bets for a few benjermains. I AM DETERMINED!!!

All right, Jack. I'm in with ya. I am going to buy some patches this weekend instead of another carton of those dreaded, delicious things...

Been smoking since 1975 so it's definitely time.

because they say you should pick a date to program your mind. i picked the 20th because my birthday is the 19th and i will most definitely be drinking that day so.....i don't want to be tempted.

i will also stop drinking until memorial day so i'm not tempted to smoke and i KNOW i'll be drinking on memorial day.

why am i quitting? because i just watched my father suffer for 2 years, and then die, after getting lung cancer that was most definitely caused by smoking.

both mom and dad both have COPD and emphazema.

i have to pull it off this time because i don't want to go down that road. i just hope it isn't too late for me.

Chuck I smoked from age 18-30, quit Jan.1- 2 years ago, you can do it! I did the same thing, made bets, etc, but the biggest thing I did was make PROMISES to the people I care about and those who care about me. That gave me more will power than money ever would. WTF, we are gamblers we are immune to money.

My best advice, forget the gum, forget the patch, they are all just crutches and you wont be able to rid your body of nicotine like you need to. Believe me its hard but man is it worth it! :sadwave:

i will have a supply of patches and nico gum and a jar of butts and ashes in water on my desk to remind me how disgusting this habit is. (i learned that from DTB the last time i quit and it was a BIG help taking a sniff of that shit when i was tempted to smoke).

good luck to all that join this thing.

i've been smoking since 1968. i know there is damage but i don't want it to get worse. the last time i quit, the wheezing and coughing stopped within a week to 10 days. hopefully it stops again this time. the first 2 days are really tough but after a week i didn't have a problem. just don't let the little guy tell you it's ok when you're drinking. tell him to fuk off. you know....the little imaginary guy on your shouder talking to you, telling you chit you want to hear. DON'T LISTEN!

because i thought i could smoke while i was drinking and got hooked again. it only takes one. i know now that i can never, ever, have even a drag off of one. why didn't i quit again? because i kept telling myself i could quit any time i want. the time is now, once and for all.

mama, does that mean you're in too? :)

On the course!
Good luck!

I was very fortunate to take a puff off of one of mom's ciggy butts when I was about 6 years old. It was at gramma's house, while they were playing Yahtzee at the kitchen table. It is one of those moments that stays with you forever I assume, as for me......I can picture it like it was ten minutes ago.

I asked mom if I could try it, and she said, "sure".

I took one puff, and almost puked!

First and last drag.................

Jack watch cigars also, I quit once for 3 months and on a golf trip smoked a cigar, I had no idea they were loaded with nicotine  10 minutes later I was jetting across fairways searching for a guy I knew always had cigs and was puffing away again. :nono:

I agree and did make promises to mom and dad about it too. No one in my family smoked. I was the only idiot to pick up a cig when I was in high school but I think its time to stop. I'm

The only reason for the gum is just in case. The first week will be hell and I want to do ANYTHING but smoke.. even if I have to chew a piece of nicorette gum to get me through.. it ahs to be better than smoking!!

Its going to be a tough road ahead for everyone quitting but.. it is the best thing we can do.

I was playing hockey this weekend and really felt bad after a few shifts.. I didnt say anything to anyone but felt like i was going to fall over and die! Today I've had 1 cigarette and its 6pm.. I know I will have another or two before bedtime but I'm confident that I can quit. I've seen people do it and I know I can..

just a suggestion, i bought the gum that was a little less expensive than the name brand kind - big mistake. spend a little more money and buy the name brand kind. the cheep stuff tasted like you were chewing on a pepper packet - pretty gross. i heard there are some decent gums that actually taste like normal gum.

I quit Jan 1 as New years resolution. So far so good.

I used the patch for about 2 weeks off and on.

Now I get McDonalds straws ( they are good round size ) and I cut them in half. I keep them in my truck and when I get the urge to smoke I pull one out and use it just like a cigarette. I draw in air though instead of smoke and I exhale. Gives me something to do with my hands. Works for me.

I am eating more though. I used to go without breakfast and lunch and just eat a big dinner. Now I either eat breakfast or a big lunch. Been walking with the dogs alot lately though.

good luck

............................................................

I have started back smoking 2 X by picking up cigars and thinking they wont be so bad.

End up with cigarettes eventually.

Me and my wife both quit so this year I figured up our savings at approx..... 3400.00 . Of course I am going to use that money to gamble with.

oh hell yeh
