(NEWSER) ? Exactly what authorities looking to calm tensions in Ferguson, Mo., didn't want to happen: Two St. Louis police officers shot and killed a man wielding a knife this afternoon, reports the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Details are still sketchy, but police say the man brandished a knife inside a convenience store and was followed outside by an employee.

When the two officers arrived at the scene, they say the man refused their orders to drop the knife and threatened them with it.

Kansas City area for who knows how long....
ha! I recall an episode of "Hill Street Blues" I watched as as a kid in 1981 where Lieutenant Howard Hunter got an "urban tank" to ride his officers thru "sniper alley" and Capt Furillo knew this was a bad idea, the militarized police would incite the citizenry to more vigorous protest and riot...to the point they may actually need the tank...

as we read here, and here by Rand Paul, not to mention the famous book on it...

And later that same TV season, a corrupt white cop killed (in one of his rare "justified shoots") a black kid. and riots ensued. The good cops held their nose and exonerated the corrupt cop (that's where the evidence led), while the police commissioner already decided to hang the dirty cop out to dry so he could put a lid on the riots.

these incidents had been going on for a long time - real, fiction and dramatized. Images from Ferguson has been contrasted with ones from the civil rights protests of the 50s and 60s. We can't update or change the way this goes in any new meaningful way - because these past and present events have already shaped so strongly the way we all think about it.

Ernest Gellner:

There are no privileged Sources or Affirmations, and all of them can be queried. In inquiry, all facts and all features are separable: it is always proper to inquire whether combinations could not be other than what had previously been supposed. In other words, the world does not arrive as a package-deal?which is the customary manner in which it appears in traditional cultures?but piecemeal. Strictly speaking, though it arrives as a package-deal, it is dismembered by thought.

But what is perhaps absolutized and made exempt is the method itself. And the method leaves its shadow on the world: it engenders an orderly, symmetrical Nature. The orderliness of inquiry leaves its shadow, and appears as an orderly, unique nature. This is the proper sense which is to be attributed to the Kantian doctrine that we ?make? our world: an orderly, systematic, law-bound Nature is really the shadow of our cognitive procedure.

Even if the facts prove that the officers response was justified it won't be enough for some folks. I would expect a huge riot to occur when the NOT guilty verdict has been confirmed.:popcorn2

The riot will not be in just Ferguson

they will light the entire country into it .

but then think about what happened when OJ was not guilty and how all the black ppl jumped for joy and screamed.
no riots , looting , killing , etc occurred.

So what happens if the cop is not guilty and it shows thousands of whites jumping up and cheering and screaming. That in a nutshell is what is wrong with our society.

They aren't saying anything, which is part of the problem in my mind. I understand they need to do a thorough 'investigation' from their end, but that needs to be expedited otherwise everything that has happened the last couple of nights will continue.

Just so I'm clear, you are saying it is the police department's fault that those neanderthals are rioting because they are thoroughly investigating the events and are not disclosing any info yet?

ummm, ok.

BREAKING REPORT: Officer Darren Wilson Suffered ?Orbital Blowout Fracture to Eye Socket? During Mike Brown Attack
Posted by Jim Hoft on Tuesday, August 19, 2014, 10:00 AM

The Gateway Pundit can now confirm from two local St. Louis sources that police Officer Darren Wilson suffered facial fractures during his confrontation with deceased 18 year-old Michael Brown. Officer Wilson clearly feared for his life during the incident that led to the shooting death of Brown.

This was after Michael Brown and his accomplice Dorian Johnson robbed a local Ferguson convenience store.

Local St. Louis sources said Wilson suffered an ?orbital blowout fracture to the eye socket.? This comes from a source within the Prosecuting Attorney?s office and confirmed by the St. Louis County Police.

A blowout fracture is a fracture of one or more of the bones surrounding the eye and is commonly referred to as an orbital floor fracture. (AAPOS)

This comes after St. Louis Post-Dispatch reporter tweeted out last night that a dozen local witnesses confirmed Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson?s version of the Brown shooting story.

Officer Darren Wilson left the state of Missouri last week.

More? The St. Louis County Police told reporters after the shooting that the police officer involved suffered facial injuries. He ?was hit? and the ?side of his face was swollen.
