I honestly can't tell if this post is a joke or not IO, so if it is, I am sorry because your sarcasm didn't go through over the internet for me. But if this is the way you feel, then it is ignorant.

If one has questions about where we came from, why we are here, or what purpose do I have in life, we should go into lawn care? I think we should all ask ourselves these questions and seriously consider what answers make sense to us and the implications of those answers in our lives.

I will have to take your word for it that curing cancer will leave me completely fulfilled. Since you are the only one to cure cancer, and can garauntee this fulfillment, I might change my course in life from business to researching cancer.

I am not saying you are one of them IO,, but the world would be better off if we all did things to help people(like curing cancer) instead of being greedy and look after our own interest are usualy the same people that say WalMart is an evil. And yet, they ignorantly or selfishly don't realize that Walmart has increased the quality of living around the world by not only making iteams more accessible and cheaper, but by giving millions of low skilled people work, who would be starving and living in complete poverty if it weren't for the wages they earn "slaving" for walmart. If you really want to help others you could try starting a business that works alot like that big evil WalMart, that gives millions of poor a better way of life, or you could invent a drug that could cure cancer but only be available to the richest who could afford it because the drug company you work for is in business to turn a profit to.

And you are right, people are such followers, I have never met an athiest that rejects all things Christian. In fact, athiests sound alot like the little goth kids you see, "Oh its so lame to want to fit in" and then you see hundreds of little Goth kids trying to fit in by "not fitting in". Athiests look down on Christians because they are "such followers" and not totally independent thinkers like them. Yeah being a Christian is real "cool" right now, you see alot of Christians on tv making fun of athiesm. And Christianity is held in a real high regard in the most of the intellectual community right now huh. Don't for a second kid yourself into thinking Christians are part of the "in" crowd and those that are Christians are just trendy "followers" and how lame we all are. When in fact athiesm has been the new "fad" of the modern age.

why dont you put your walmart thoughts in the walmart thread and see how many people agree with you. The greedy comment is laughable. A Bush follower telling people to treat others better and don't be greedy? Are you serious or just trying to get some laughs?:142smilie

Come on now s-murph, I didn't take you for a male chauvinist. Women tend to do that...lol - and we are all liars too! Unfortunately, I've never had a boyfriend THAT smart who could influence me in such a profound way :) Now my father...I'll give him some props.

Yeah, I immediately regretted that statement. Sorry. Since you have such an open and inquisitive mind about these things, you probably should look a little more into Freemasons.

"English. Do you speak it?"

Sounds like a quality train wreck. Something good enough to start a war over some time in our history. After reading that, I'm going to grab a beer. :s1:

I know I should have never gotten into a thread such as this. My bad.:142slap:

On with whatever was going on.

It's all good...I don't hold grudges :SIB

As for the Freemasons, I think I've had enough interaction with them for awhile now after getting a "mouthful" in that other thread. lol...I really always wondered what they do and who they are... Well the one I now "know" is a hater who runs his mouth and doesn't get jokes very well and has little respect for women (in case there are other Masons running around here, I won't judge you all on his behavior...). Oh well, I've run into my fair share of haters over the years, so they don't bother me too much anymore. But I still prefer bickering with the nice boyz over in this forum ;)

My Grandpa Murphy was a Freemason. I came accross his giant framed certificate at my dad's a few months ago. He was pretty proud of that membership. From what I could tell, I think they mostly just played poker and drank a lot. ...maybe the occassional hooker or something too. I know for sure he wasn't visiting Scottish hospitals or anything like that.

Maybe i'm hedging a bit(just in case?), but I am not an atheist. I guess I would be an agnostic that *tends* to think there is a higher being, but am repulsed at organized religion.
Matt, thanks for chiming in. You're not really hedging if you consider religious doctrine. Either you believe in the right God, or you're going wading next to me in the lake of fire for eternity. Worrying that being a nonbeliever might damn you to hell is simply the residue of indoctrination.

Just tipping my pinky toe in here in this debate as I really don't have much interest.
I'd be interested to hear your take on The End of Faith if you choose to read it. You might have more interest if you understand the atheist argument.

"the bunker"
""As a former athiest turned agnostic who now believes in a higher power, I think you are missing the point. Again I will say that prayer is not a time to plead with God to heal yourself or make you rich or anything like that. Prayer is a time to commune with God and let loose of all your troubles. Some people are healed from disease and other strife and experience miracles because of positive mental thought, which can be a result of prayer. Obviously it is not possible, no matter how positive one thinks, to be "cured" from amputation.""

well said......it`s so funny that these people are so afraid of christianity as a belief system...and look to demonize and disparage it at every opportunity...

especially when compared some other religions......and their treatment of women, children, homosexuals et al....i.e. the more defenseless in a society...

what i`m saying is that in comparison, christianity is relatively benign....and fair...

our society...is based on that belief system..the most successful, modern, progressive society on earth...

is based on the declaration of independence...

the bill of rights....and their origins are traced back to?......

judeo christian ethic....

of course they`ll leave other faiths alone.....it can become dangerous to cast aspersions on certain religions...

it`s so much easier...for those that are faint of heart to slam the faith that won`t slam back....

theres a word for that kind of behavior...

I dunno, Gary. I can assure you I don't spend any time 'worrying' about eternal damnation. It really does not cross my mind, ever. In fact, this whole subject never crosses my mind. But after reading great, in depth posts from you, BLG, HH, etc, I figured i'd throw my (non) opinion out there. It is what it is, but on a subject like this, and global warming for that matter, i'll choose to take the 'we'll see what happens because nobody can definitively prove anything' tack.

However, I think you think hit my 'mindset', such that it is, right on the button when you use the term 'residual indoctrination.' I do leave a possibility that there is a higher being. When I say 'hedge', I don't really mean it in a spiritual sense, per se'. More just a lackadasical, no strong opinion, don't care, type of term.

Thanks bro, but I have no interest in reading a book that (presumably) tries to prove a negative any more than I have interest in reading Genesis.

I'm sure it's a great read for people on both sides of the fence on this subject that have interest, but I have none.

In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
A stately pleasure-dome decree :

Where Alph, the sacred river, ran
Through caverns measureless to man

Down to a sunless sea.

So twice five miles of fertile ground
With walls and towers were girdled round :

And there were gardens bright with sinuous rills,
Where blossomed many an incense-bearing tree ;

And here were forests ancient as the hills,
Enfolding sunny spots of greenery.

But oh ! that deep romantic chasm which slanted
Down the green hill athwart a cedarn cover !

A savage place ! as holy and enchanted
As e'er beneath a waning moon was haunted
By woman wailing for her demon-lover !

And from this chasm, with ceaseless turmoil seething,
As if this earth in fast thick pants were breathing,
A mighty fountain momently was forced :

Amid whose swift half-intermitted burst
Huge fragments vaulted like rebounding hail,
Or chaffy grain beneath the thresher's flail :

And 'mid these dancing rocks at once and ever
It flung up momently the sacred river.

Five miles meandering with a mazy motion
Through wood and dale the sacred river ran,
Then reached the caverns measureless to man,
And sank in tumult to a lifeless ocean :

And 'mid this tumult Kubla heard from far
Ancestral voices prophesying war !

The shadow of the dome of pleasure
Floated midway on the waves ;

Where was heard the mingled measure
From the fountain and the caves.

It was a miracle of rare device,
A sunny pleasure-dome with caves of ice !

A damsel with a dulcimer
In a vision once I saw :

It was an Abyssinian maid,
And on her dulcimer she played,
Singing of Mount Abora.

Could I revive within me
Her symphony and song,
To such a deep delight 'twould win me,
That with music loud and long,
I would build that dome in air,
That sunny dome ! those caves of ice !

And all who heard should see them there,
And all should cry, Beware ! Beware !

His flashing eyes, his floating hair !

Weave a circle round him thrice,
And close your eyes with holy dread,
For he on honey-dew hath fed,
And drunk the milk of Paradise.

The singer of Frankie goes to Hollywood was supposed to be on Pan AM 103 that went down over Lockerbie, Scotland. He hit trafic in London and missed the flight.

A few years later he was diagnosed with AIDS though. Luck is a fickle creature.
