Walmart....

Walmart....

Let me preface this by saying that I did the search which can be replicated (unless I did something wrong) and that these are the results.

I just wanted to see the availability of guns through Walmart Canada (walmart.ca) versus Walmart in the US (walmart.com). Canada obviously has different gun laws and I'm sure that I've seen hunting rifles on display in stores, but have NEVER seen assault rifles or handguns. I'm talking NEVER in Canada, but that could also be because I've never sought them out. At any rate, this is what they have ONLINE.

Walmart Canada has a hunting section under Sports & Rec but NO guns. They do list rifle spotting scopes and gun locks and gun security safes but still NO guns.

Walmart USA is distinctly different. Rifles can be easily found under the sports & outdoors section. There are 672 items listed altogether which includes things such as rifle scopes, sight laser installation tools and even air soft rifles. And to be fair, as much as I know about guns, the majority of those sold are air rifles and those that are used for hunting. However, the simple fact that military-style assault rifles are available AT ALL to the general public is highly problematic. And really, the discussion over semi-automatic and fully-automatic is ridiculous. It simply means that semi-automatics are dependent on one's trigger finger for full effect. Regardless, the damage they can do is still sickening.

So what is the point of all this? Well, many on here express the belief that things are the way they are and there can't be anything done to change it. WHY? Why does this have to be the case? Begin with a philosophical change - guns have (at the most) a limited place in society. And for those who cling steadfast to it to provide an excuse for their actions - re-write the damn constitution already - surely you must realize that things change and times change and that the document was written when they all carried flintlock muskets and pistols. You yahoos wanna keep carrying? Fine. Have at it with your muskets then!

And absolutely NOTHING is above change. After all, it was only a few decades ago that the majority believed that women shouldn't have the right to vote and that higher education was not a birthright for non-whites.

Things can change. Maybe not overnight. But first, you need to WANT the change....

Peace!

well said.

also, the people that wrote the 2nd amendment owned slaves and oppressed women, did they not?

funny how it is acceptable for them to be wrong about those two things but not guns.

On the course!
The reported time line of actual shooting was about 2:00.

You'd have to re-load a hand gun quite a few times in 2 minutes to fire off over 100 rounds.

Also reported he was found with 3 guns in the school. Reports were wrong all day, in the effort to be first with the news. Happens all the time. It will be a while before the facts come out, or are covered up.

Chrry, I am not debating. I am not a gun guy. I'm rethinking this, but right now I don't even have one in the house. It sounds like a .223 is used for small game though. In your mind are certain guns ok? If so what is the difference between the guns that should be banned and the ones for sale at the Canadian Walmart for instance?

Again, please don't read any negative tone in my posts. I can easily be convinced certain guns should be banned. I'm trying to learn where the line is.

My post wasn't at all directed to you. I'm sorry if it appeared that way.

It was merely a general statement to address some of the earlier issues raised in this thread.

And I know nothing about guns. However, does the caliber matter too? I mean, just because they're designed for small game, does this mean that they can't inflict harm on human beings? On children? Again, I don't know either, but I'm guessing that they can kill - regardless.

Peace! :)

This caliber weapon is used to compel prisoners in the state of Wisconsin to not escape. It's not a small game gun.

The photo that airportis put up of the nasty looking "military grade" assault weapon is really a semi-automatic rifle that fires a .223 round.

For reference, a .223 is something that most of us would use for hunting squirrels, varmits, and other small game. Remmington makes a really nice bolt action .223
99% of what you see in that picture he posted is window dressing. It has a larger clip (30 rounds). That is the difference there. It isn't a fully automatic weapon - you can see the selector switch right above the trigger (safe and semi). There is no "automatic" selector switch on that.

Like I said, I am still learning. So the people who want to ban certain guns are looking at the size of the bullet?

the state police guy reporting right now mentioned 4 firearms. so you can stop with the conspiracy theories, marine.

4 means its very possible there were 2 handguns and 1 rifle with the shooter, like reported, plus 1 more rifle in the trunk of the car.

my opinion on him being a racist piece of shit isnt right? really? pretty sure he displays how right this thought is every single time he makes a post.

this piece of shit posts links to stories about obamas tears being fake and about this being a conspiracy yet I bastardized this thread?

and pushing my political beliefs? get a fucking grip. I dont care who the fuck you vote for. if you think the amount of murdering would stay as high as it is with guns eliminated, whether it be feasible or not, then you have a couple screws loose.

how unstable you are is the exact reason people shouldnt have easy access to weapons. youve gone off on a tangent numerous times on this website only to come back later and apologize or leave the site completely for a while.

people who get that angry over the god damn internet mixed with weapons is a recipe for disaster in real life.

but no carry on packing your heat and fantasizing about the day you can be in this situation where you face an armed gunman and barrel roll behind cover and save the day by shooting him in the head.

and hedgehog blamed this on medication not more than a page ago, then comes back and says that shit. he also said anyone on anti depressants shouldnt own a weapon. well what about people who clearly have anger issues? wouldnt they be more unstable with weapons?

he also said every single person should carry a weapon. im glad everyone mutually agreed on how fucktarded an idea this is and didnt even bother to entertain it.

No dude, I am not saying hedgie's words are gospel. I am saying that he was correct in that particular instance. I do get angry sometimes just like anyone else. I don't dream of doing a barrel roll or shooting anyone in the head, been there done that in my time in the Marine Corps and it isn't anything special. What I don't agree with is you ridiculing or insulting every single person that doesn't run to the front of the line to blow you and tell you how great your opinion is. In all honesty brother, I truly feel that you used to be a much bigger dick on here and have calmed down some but it pissed me off when you started the whole, in this thread bullshit. I try to get along with everyone but that is not always possible. This shit is a tragedy and I get it that you don't like our current gun laws. My stance is to better our enforcement policies rather than make more laws that don't require any kind of judicial effort on our law enforcement....i.e. make it harder to purchase weapons only makes the sellers work harder and puts the onus on them to report illegal activity. That isn't good enforcement. Carry on with the rant.

Hope this helps,
FDC

second rifle in the car maybe?

didnt they say the mom had an arsenal of guns? at least 3 more than the 2 hand guns and rifle that were mentioned originally?

regardless of it being 1,2,3,4 or 20 guns. 1 assault rifle is 1 too many. this thing shouldnt even be allowed to own. anyone who isnt a gun nut can see this thing only has 1 purpose.

And this is exactly what I mean dude. You were ready to jump Marine's ass for saying that it was reported that the rifle was in the car and then when he provides you with exactly what you asked for, you don't even mention it but gloss over it with the ridiculous speculation of another rifle on the premises rather than just saying, "Oh wow, okay thanks for the information".

no, marine was "ready to jump all over" Cie on the other page when Cie said the guy used the rifle to do the shooting.

and he provided something that wasnt even correct. the police reported there were 4 weapons, as I already pointed out when he was giving his press conference less than an hour ago.

....................................................................

if you look deeper there is a huge gun lobby in America.

millions sold every year I am sure

this is a industry like the drug companys that do not want their livlihoods fawked with.

The gun lobbys are in the pockets deep with our goverment officials to not change shit.

sad really

so keep loving your guns and lets let everyone buy as many as they want. GOP will scare ppl into buying more by saying Obama was going to get rid of guns. Think about it.

What does it say about the craven nature of the American media that it isn't a given that you don't hunt down parents who just lost their grade-school aged child in a horrific massacre. Precious police resources are being spent to protect parents from the indecency of the media industry.

It's a safe bet that Diane Sawyer, Katie Couric and Soledad O'Brien have their feelers out already trying to score the "big get" of grieving parents convinced to go on TV to give the networks what they crave. You can already hear Soledad asking a parent who has just lost their little daughter: "What do you say to those who refused to enact stricter gun control laws, knowing that they stood in the way of regulations that could have saved your child?"

Get ready, it's coming. The exploitation of the profound grief these parents must be experiencing will not stand in their way. In fact, the grief will be another tool used to further their dual agenda of exploitation to serve their sagging ratings coupled with a singular focus on further 2nd amendment restrictions based upon emotional reactions rather than rational analysis of the cause and effect of social and mental health policies.

Too bad those troopers can't be permanently assigned to protect the heartbroken families from these barracudas.

.......................................................................

the media interviewing children about this is just absolutely deplorable.

do the parents want them on TV that bad >?

sick

it is a killing weapon bullet

it tumbles if I am not mistaken and causes alot of damage as it enters

NRA is out of control. Hell my father was a republican for years and belonged to them but gave up his membership because of them going off the deep end. What Bob Costas said the other night doesn't seem so bad now.
