entertaining thread Hashish...drugs and hoes legal 7 dollars for 15 mins :0074

enjoyed reading it all...

can you watch sports in English or do you have to stream on the internet?

One of my buddies has DirecTV, and that has the option for the English feed on some sporting events. I watch the bulk of my sports from firstrow though. I do watch some events in Spanish. Watching events in Spanish does have its moments. I'm sure most here are familiar with the "GOooooooooooaaal!!" calls for soccer games, but have you ever heard a home run called in Spanish? :mj07:

If you live in the Huanchaco area you must know everybody that lives around there because the whole surrounding area only looks like about 10 square miles. What do people do for a living around there? What's the population there?

Do you have a car or scooter to get around or is everything walking distance.

What's the food like?

I assume you are an american citizen so what hoops do you have to jump through in order to stay there?

Do you pay US taxes or taxes there or both?

There are lots of fishermen. There are lots of restaurants and shops catering to tourists. There are also bodegas on every block. Lots of people commute into Trujillo to work as well. I don't know everyone, but I do know lost of people. There are always tourists coming and going, so there are always fresh faces in town as well. The population is around 40,000.

Everything in town is within walking distance. I don't have a car or scooter. If I feel lazy, I can always grab a bus or combi for 50 centimos ($.20) to the other side of town. A bus ride into Trujillo is 1.50 soles, and a taxi ride there is 10 soles.

Very good read. How is the drinking water ? Taxes ? also do you have a car ? If so are they expensive ? Thanks

No car, but they are expensive from what I understand. Anything imported is. There is a flat 18% tax on all services rendered, items imported and good sold in Peru. That tax is already calculated into the display price for things you buy. The water here is actually drinkable, and I do drink it from time to time. Most of the time I drink bottled water though as I don't care for the taste of the tap water.

I file my US income taxes. I pay taxes on things I buy here like everyone else, but I don't think there are actually income taxes here.

Online poker is legal here. I have been meaning to get my Pokerstars account reactivated, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. I will need to open a bank account here to do so. You also have to have a local phone number and a proof of address.

The visa situation is one of the reasons I am here. It is the easiest situation in this part of the world for US residents. You get a free six month tourist visa, and it can be renewed by crossing the border. IF you stay over your visa, you simply have to pay a fine of a dollar a day when you leave.

Alcohol here is fairly cheap, a bit cheaper than the states for liquor. I'll look at specific prices for what you asked about next time I go to the store.

The beers are mostly cheap domestic lagers that are 5%. You can buy three 750 mL beers for 10 soles (4$) from the store. Those 750 mL beers are 5 soles when you buy them at a bar or restaurant. There are a few higher quality domestic beers that run about 4 soles at the store and 6-7 soles at the bar. There are very few import beers available. You can find Budweiser, Stella, Pironi and Heineken. They all run about 6 soles per 12 ounce bottle or can at the bar.

I do most of my drinking out at the bar. There are lots of fun little bars in the area. There are a couple of bigger nightclubs. The nigtclubs are dead until 12-1 AM, and then they stay open until 5-6. There are some really good restaurants in the area, including one that is considered one of the best in Peru. The best part about lots of these restaurants and bars is that you can sit and gaze out over the ocean while you eat.
