Aggies look for big upset
September 6, 2018

By Kyle Markus

College Football Preview - Clemson Tigers at Texas A&M Aggies

The Clemson Tigers have transformed into one of the most powerful college football programs in the country, perennially in the hunt for the national championship. They have a great team once again in 2018, but the margin for error is thin. Clemson has added a challenging non-conference game to the schedule this year as it faces off against the Texas A&M Aggies in Week 2.

Texas A&M will be the underdog but gets this game at home, so if everything goes perfectly a big-time upset is possible. The Aggies aren?t in the same class as Clemson this season but would love to put a scare into the Tigers.

If Clemson can win this one convincingly it will be a good sign for its College Football Playoff chances in NCAA football betting.

The Clemson Tigers and Texas A&M Aggies will face off on Saturday, September 8th, 2018 at 7 p.m. ET at Kyle Field in College Station, Texas. The game will be nationally televised on ESPN.

We'll have college football odds at BookMaker.eu available for every game of the 2018 NCAA football season.

Odds Analysis

The Aggies are listed as 12-point underdogs in this matchup. Clemson is the sizable road favorite and is still getting more than 62 percent of the action to cover the spread. The Tigers are -450 favorites on the moneyline, while Texas A&M is the +351 underdog. The Aggies are getting the majority of the action on the moneyline.

The scoring total is listed at 54 points, with the ?under? the more popular pick in NCAA football gambling.

Last Time Out

Clemson had no issues in its opener, which isn?t a surprise considering it played an inferior Furman team. The Tigers grabbed a 41-0 lead after three quarters and cruised to the 48-7 victory. The Clemson rushing attack was impressive, led by Lyn-J Dixon, who had six carries for 89 yards. The Tigers play two quarterbacks and both were solid. Kelly Bryant was 10-of-16 for 127 yards and a touchdown, while Trevor Lawrence was 9-of-15 for 137 yards and three touchdowns.

Texas A&M was equally impressive, dominating Northwestern State 59-7 to begin the season with a bang. The Aggies scored 28 points in the second quarter to take full control. Quarterback Kellen Mond was 17-of-25 for 184 yards and a pair of touchdown. Texas A&M running back Trayveon Williams was absolutely dominant, carrying the ball 20 times for 240 yards and three touchdowns.

Both teams had offenses that rolled and defenses that clamped down, but this will be a much tougher level of competition for each in Week 2.

Key Stat

40. That?s the number of wins, against only four losses, that Clemson has posted the past three seasons. The Tigers have been ranked No. 1 at some point in each of those campaigns, and have a national title as well as a runner-up finish.

Clemson is now ranked No. 2 in the country and should be right in the thick of the national title chase. The Tigers have a bunch of talent on defense and a pair of nice options at quarterback. Texas A&M is an above average team but not quite in the same stratosphere as the Tigers.

Free College Football ATS Picks

The Aggies showed their offensive firepower in the opener, but going against Clemson is a different animal. The Tigers will make Texas A&M work for every point it scores. That being said, this spread is too high considering the Aggies are at home. Clemson is going to come away with a nice road win to continue its dominance but Texas A&M is the pick to cover the spread in NCAA football wagering.

College Football ATS Pick: Clemson Tigers 33, Texas A&M Aggies 24

Turpin ignites No. 16 TCU in rainy 42-12 win over rival SMU
September 7, 2018

DALLAS (AP) If No. 16 TCU was looking ahead to a showdown with Ohio State, KaVontae Turpin snapped his fellow Horned Frogs back into the present with another speedy dash to the end zone.

Turpin ignited a sluggish team by returning a punt 78 yards for a touchdown before adding a 42-yard scoring catch, and the Horned Frogs pulled away for a delayed and rain-soaked 42-12 victory over Dallas-Fort Worth rival SMU that ended early Saturday morning.

The start of the game Friday night between former Southwest Conference foes was held up nearly two hours by lightning, and a steady rain fell until halftime.

The Horned Frogs (2-0) finally secured their first seven-game winning streak in the 98-game Iron Skillet series after midnight, winning comfortably after struggling early for the third straight year. TCU has outscored SMU 83-14 in the second half the past three meetings.

Perhaps looking ahead to the fourth-ranked Buckeyes next week, TCU squandered its first two chances to take control by committing turnovers before Alec Dunham picked up a fumble by SMU quarterback Ben Hicks in stride and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown.

''We understand the next ballgame here Ohio State is not SMU,'' coach Gary Patterson said. ''Not in any aspect whatsoever. But I think our kids will know that too.''

The Mustangs (0-2) led 9-0 early in the first home game for coach Sonny Dykes, but had just 167 yards total offense after Braeden West's 51-yard scoring run on the fifth play of the game.

''I'm disappointed that we didn't play better in the second half,'' Dykes said. ''We're just not very good at the details right now. That's what's biting us in the rear end.''

Two plays before Dunham's score, Mustangs linebacker Shaine Hailey had an open field in front of him on Shawn Robinson's first career interception but was quickly dragged down by an alert Turpin.

The speedy receiver/returner pointed toward the punter looking for a block on TCU's first score, but easily ran past an unblocked Jamie Sackville anyway.

The sealing TD came when Turpin caught a short pass, ran through the middle of the secondary and split three defenders near the goal line. Turpin, who set school records with his fifth career special teams TD and fourth on a punt return, finished with 176 all-purpose yards.

SLOWER START

A week after throwing for three touchdowns and running for two scores in the first half of a 55-7 rout of Southern University, Robinson finally found the end zone on an 18-yard run in the third quarter. That gave TCU, a three-touchdown favorite, its first comfortable lead at 28-12.

CITY SLICKERS

The rainy first half had its zany moments. TCU punter Adam Nunez fumbled without getting touched while running after a bad snap, and the ball rolled out of bounds near the pylon for what was ruled a safety, giving SMU its 9-0 lead.

The Horned Frogs went ahead for the first time at 14-9 when receiver Jaelen Austin fell on the ball in the end zone after running back Sewo Olonilua had it knocked loose around the 10.

THE TAKEAWAY

TCU: On the short 40-mile trip from their Fort Worth campus, the Horned Frogs drove by AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys and site of their battle with the Buckeyes. There's little question the Horned Frogs were caught looking ahead, although the long delay probably was a factor as well in leading just 14-12 into the third quarter.

SMU: The Mustangs waited a long time for a bright spot with Dykes, who chose to coach in the Frisco Bowl last year after Chad Morris left for the Arkansas job. SMU fell behind 42-3 in the first half of that season finale and trailed 36-0 in the fourth quarter of last week's 46-23 opening loss to North Texas, another Dallas-area school. Hanging with a Big 12 title contender for a half gives the Mustangs some hope.

POLL IMPLICATIONS

The Horned Frogs aren't likely to move up much, and might be at risk of dropping a spot or two because of the early struggles against an overmatched opponent.

UP NEXT

TCU: The Horned Frogs can't get too caught up in the Ohio State game next Saturday because the Big 12 opener is a week later at Texas, their biggest rival.

SMU: At No. 21 Michigan next Saturday.

Power 5 Best Bets - Week 2
September 6, 2018
By YouWager.eu

College Football Week 2 Power 5 Conference Best Bets

The opening week of the college football season was incredibly exciting, with some great games and stunning upsets delivered over the course of the weekend. Most of the action in Week 2 falls on Saturday, as it traditionally does, which means there are a lot of games to pick through.

We have decided to look at the Power 5 Conferences and narrow our picks down to one for each, so let?s get right to the picks and the best bets and remember YouWager.eu offers you the largest list of betting odds as well as futures and props for all the games in the schedule.

ACC
Penn State Nittany Lions at Pitt Panthers (OVER 56)

If you want to talk about great escapes in Week 1 of the season, look no further than Penn State, as they needed a late TD strike and OT to get past Appalachian State. Over 80 points were scored in that game, which makes the 56-point total this week look very small in comparison. The Nittany Lions have now seen 7 of their last 8 games go OVER and I think we are looking at that again this week, as I expect Penn State to come out and try to be better from the start, so as to avoid another panicky 4th quarter situation.

Big Ten
Michigan Wolverines (-28) over Western Michigan Broncos

No team in college football needs a bigger performance than the Michigan Wolverines do. Sure, they had a tough opener on the road versus Notre Dame in Week 1, but the nature of their loss there is what is causing problems. They looked very poor offensively, so you know that they will have been working on correcting that all this week. I think they come out and go for the jugular against Western Michigan, which is why I like the Wolverines to cover the 28-point spread.

Big 12
Oklahoma Sooners (-30) over UCLA Bruins

We were all a little excited to see what Chip Kelly would do with the Bruins offense in Week 1, but it ended up being a mammoth letdown, as UCLA were stunned by the Cincinnati Bearcats at home. Now they have to go on the road to face an Oklahoma team that picked up right where they left off last season, running up the score in a blowout win in their opener. I?m not usually a fan of these bigger spreads, but the Sooners look like money here.

PAC 12
USC Trojans at Stanford Cardinal (UNDER 56 ?)

This looks to be one of the better match-ups on the schedule this weekend, with a pair of ranked teams going head to head. Both of these teams got off to winning starts in Week 1, although USC were made to work a whole lot harder than expected for their win. Stanford has the edge in SU wins in the last 10 meetings between these two, but it is the UNDER that stands out here, with 4 of the last 6 meetings in Stanford going UNDER.

SEC
Georgia Bulldogs (-10) over South Carolina Gamecocks

While these two teams are viewed as the best in the SEC East, there is still a big talent gap between the Bulldogs and the Gamecocks. Both had comfortable wins in Week 1, but the Dawgs rolled out a bunch of different guys, all of whom seemed to step up and deliver. I think that Georgia comes out and controls this game from the opening kick on their way to a double-digit win.

Saturday's Best Bets
September 6, 2018
By BetDSI

Saturday College Football Best Bets

Week 2 of both college and NFL action can often be fun simply because everyone wants to react and overreact to what they saw the week prior. It's why you can sometimes get some very ?soft? betting lines out there simply because the perception and reality of a team don't always mesh after a single week. So it's always important to not be afraid to dive deep into the betting board in Week 2's in an attempt to find those mismatched lines.

Hopefully I've done that here this week as there are a couple of games I couldn't pass up.

Best Bet #1: Penn State (-9)

The perception of Penn State after one week is nearly as low as it could get after avoiding outright disaster with a home loss to App State. The Nittany Lions needed to convert a 4th and 2 in the final minute just to keep their chance at a tie alive, and while they squeaked it out in OT, the majority of bettors want nothing to do with Penn State right now.

That's more than fine with me as now we get a line with Penn State laying less than double digits against a Pittsburgh team that were +19 in this game a year ago. Yes, that game was in Penn State and not Pitt like this year's, and yes there is no Saquon Barkley in the backfield anymore for Penn State, but it's not like their offense really had anything to do with last week's scare. It was Penn State's defense who lost their minds in the 4th quarter of that game to allow App State to score 28 in the frame. Offensively, there really is not a whole lot to worry about with Penn State at the moment.

And that Big 10 defense will be able to turn things around just seven days later. They know that this in-state rivalry game with Pitt has grown in meaning the past few years and they aren't about to let the Panthers offense clown them late in the same fashion App State did last week.

Penn State is still a highly ranked and respected football team this year and if the only thing many can point to as a reason not to lay this single-digit number when it's loaded with value is because of last week's scare, well then, chances are the overreactions of Week 2 have probably caught them before.

Best Bet #2: Kansas State +8.5

As one of the big games on in the early kickoff slot on Saturday, this Mississippi State/Kansas State game is going to get a lot of attention and it already has. This spread was quickly bet up from an opener of +7.5 to as high as +10 and since coming back down. A difference of opinion on a game is never a bad thing, but even without it being the best of the number, this might be too many points to give K-State at home here.

Similar to Penn State, Kansas State had their struggles with a South Dakota team that took them to the wire. K-State was laying 24 points in that game last week and they actually found themselves down 24-12 to start the 4th quarter. Two TD's in the first half of that frame gave K-State the final result they were looking for, but it didn't give them any sort of respect in the betting market overall.

Bettors were quick to pound a Mississippi State team that looked great in Week 1 and don't want to be the ones to step in front of them (after one week) because of that performance. But sometimes these struggles by teams like Kansas State and Penn State could be a product of those teams potentially looking ahead to bigger Week 2 matchups.

And while there are a lot of people in this industry who aren't shy about calling this game or that game a potential ?look-ahead trap? for a certain team, they quickly forget all about it after the week and don't even consider how that team will/could react when in that game they spent all the week prior looking ahead too? Don't you think that extra week of some level of focus which was a negative last week would be a huge positive this week?

That's what we've got here regarding Kansas State in this spot, and you can never really count out Bill Synder's teams as home underdogs. That's always been Synder's most successful role in the ATS market and thanks to last week's nail-biting win, Snyder and his team have a few more points to work with to ultimately pick up the cover.

Total Talk - Week 2
September 6, 2018
By BetDSI

CFB Week 2 Total Talk

The first full week of college football action was very interesting to say the least, and some would even say more so from a totals perspective. Lines had weeks to be pushed up and down in the market and I touched on some of the bigger movers in this piece a week ago.

It turns out that following those big moves would have brought you a 1-2 record with Cincinnati/UCLA easily staying 'under' all numbers, while the Texas/Maryland game was a shootout in the first half before sailing 'over' all numbers. Goes to show you that sometimes it's best to wait on lines if you can sense they will initially move in your favor.

Another thing I'll have to wait on is a win (or loss) with my weekly selection here as the Akron/Nebraska game got postponed. I'm sure that pains new HC Scott Frost more than anyone though as he had to be as anxious as anyone to get the season started. The Cornhuskers host a Colorado team this week in a game that's already seen a few points of movement upward on their total (62.5 to 65.5), and it will be interesting to see if those initial ?new season jitters? still persist for Nebraska.

Having already discussed my thoughts on Nebraska last week and nothing really has changed, it's time to look to other big movers on the Week 2 totals offered on the board, so let's get right to a few of them.

Biggest Movers to the 'Over'

USC vs Stanford: Open: 54.5 ? Current: 56.5
Georgia vs South Carolina: Open: 50.5 ? Current: 56.5

I'll start with the big SEC East game as it's been the biggest mover and seen some wild swings throughout the week.

This total may have opened at 50.5, but the initial move here was to the low side and reaching as low as 48.5 at some places. That number didn't last long though as it's been basically 'over' money ever since. That same over money continued to flood the number higher and higher so that by day's end on Tuesday the number had started at 50.5, moved down, and ultimately ended up closing for the evening at 53. Bettors that were on the fence couldn't afford to miss out then and continued to push the number even higher to it's current status and you can't help but think the best way to play it is to go 'low' before the eventual buy-back happens.

At this point, how can it not? You've got two SEC teams going at one another and it's not like SEC games have a great reputation for putting up nearly 60 points per game. Granted both offenses scored 40+ in easy wins over FCS schools a week ago, but last year's matchup ? in a year where Georgia had some of the best RB weapons in the country ? finished 24-10 in UGA's favor and the 28-14 score in 2016 was very similar.

I'm just not sure where the 57 points will come from here as it's hard to see a 30-27 type game. That opening line of 50.5 will probably turn out to be a lot more bang on then all this movement would suggest, as this is one move I don't think you can side with at all.

Conversely, the bump up in the Pac-12 showdown between USC and Stanford is one I can get behind. That's because both teams should be more heavily reliant on their offenses this year with some defensive deficiencies to work out, and it's a rivalry game where neither offense will be shy about going at the other.

At the same time, USC's freshman QB JT Daniels is making his first ever trip to a hostile collegiate environment and it's easy to see how some potential mistakes by him could end up turning into quick points for Stanford. The Cardinal figured out in the 2nd half last week that Bryce Love, for all his tremendous skills, makes a good decoy too and they'll have no quarrels about forcing that USC defense to pick their poison.

This total is still below the key number of 57, so it's not like it's a horrible move in that regard, and if I asked you to tell me, regardless of the specific teams involved, would a game between two SEC teams or two Pac-12 teams be more likely to reach 57 points. Chances are the Pac-12 answer gets a lot of support there. That's how I see these moves this week.

Biggest Movers to the 'Under'

Virginia vs Indiana: Open: 52.5 ? Current: 51.5

This line actually was initially bet up to the 54.5 range right off the bat, but it's been a steady stream of 'under' money since then with this matchup between ACC and Big 10 opponents. Neither squad had a particularly tough week in Week 1 with things only really getting tight for Indiana late, but I'm curious as to why this move to the 'under' has happened. Neither Virginia nor Indiana was particularly good defensively relative to their competition a week ago ? Virginia allowed 13 to FCS Richmond, while Indiana gave up 28 to FIU ? and Indiana's long been known as a team that isn't shy about chucking the ball around in their own backyard.

I'm not so sure this 'under' move is the right one as it smells a lot like that Texas/Maryland team from last week. Sure, it could end up staying low, but can you really trust both defenses to hold down the fort. I just don't believe you can.

Best Total Bet for Week 2:

Penn State/Pittsburgh Under 56

Penn State narrowly escaped Week 1 with their OT win over Appalachian State and it was largely because their defense fell asleep late. App State hung 28 points on the Nittany Lions in the 4th quarter ? after being shutout in quarters 2 and 3 ? to eventually take a late lead in that game and it was a huge wake-up call for this Penn State program. Now they head into Pittsburgh for a rivalry game with some smash-mouth football already lurking as the mindset and I'm expecting Penn State's defense to answer the call.

These two programs know each other quite well after renewing this in-state rivalry back in 2016. We had a high-scoring Pitt shoot-out win (42-39) back in 2016 when the Panthers last played this game at home, but the Panthers were also small home chalk that day. Penn State enforced their will on Pitt a year ago in a 33-14 win and that's about the scoreline I expect this game to finish around.

Best Bet YTD Record: 0-0

Pittsburgh 1-0 0-0 0-1 0-1
Virginia 1-0 0-0 1-0 1-0
Virginia Tech 1-0 1-0 1-0 0-1

Duke at Northwestern (ESPNU, 12:00 p.m. ET)

These two institutions are starting to build a history together on the gridiron. This is the fourth consecutive season these teams have met each, with Duke winning last season's installment by a 41-17 count in Durham. These teams met in Evanston in 2016 and it was the Wildcats coming out on top 24-13 to cover a four-point number. Northwestern covered the first two meetings, limiting Duke to 11.5 points per game (PPG). The Wildcats have had difficulty scoring against the Blue Devils, though, posting just 20.0 PPG in their three meetings. The 'under' is 2-1 in the three meetings since 2015, with Northwestern holding a 2-1 SU/ATS edge. The Blue Devils are an impressive 21-6-1 ATS over their past 28 non-conference tilts, including last week's win over Army. The Wildcats are 3-7 ATS in their past 10 outside of the Big Ten.

Georgia Tech at South Florida (ABC -or- ESPN2, 12:00 p.m. ET)

The Blue Jackets and Bulls will hook up at the Ray Jay, and it should be a hot one. Both of these teams rolled over FCS foes last weekend, with the Ramblin' Wreck spanking Alcorn State 41-0, and the Bulls taking care of Elon 34-14. The Bulls offense was quite prolific with 515 yards in their win, but they will obviously see a step up in competition. Ga. Tech has rushed for at least 400 yards five times over their past 12 games, but it might be tough sledding against an underrated USF D. Georgia Tech ia 7-2-1 ATS in their past 10 against teams with a winning record, 6-2 ATS in their past eight outside of the conference and 6-1-1 ATS in their past eight following a straight-up win. The Bulls are no slouch against winning teams, either, going 6-1 ATS in their past seven. However, they're also 2-5 ATS in their past seven outside of the AAC and 2-5 ATS in their past seven games overall, too.

Georgia State at North Carolina State (ACC Network, 12:30 p.m. ET)
The Wolfpack opened up with a narrow 24-13 victory over James Madison of the FCS, which surprised many casual fans. But the Dukes are no joke, ranking No. 2 in the FCS. In fact, James Madison and their suffocating defense might have been a more stern test than the Panthers of Georgia State, despite their FBS status. Vegas seems to agree, as N.C. State was favored by just 15 last week and they're favored by 24 against GSU. The Panthers have rallied together on the road, going 22-8 ATS in their past 30 outside of Atlanta, and they're 5-2 ATS in the past seven non-confernce tilts. N.C. State is just 1-5 ATS in their past six stepping outside of the ACC, and only 2-7 ATS in the past nine home games and 1-5 ATS in the past six games played in the month of September.

North Carolina at East Carolina (ESPNU, 3:30 p.m.)
Someone is going to notch their first win of the season, and someone will leave the field with a disappointing 0-2 mark. The Tar Heels and Pirates meet at Dowdy Ficklen on Saturday looking to right the ship. UNC opened at California last weekend, losing 24-17 to earn a backdoor push. Their offense struggled all day, but they actually did come within an eyelash of making things interesting. In the final minute, they appeared to recover an onside kick. Instant replay determined there was a penalty during the kick, negating the recovery and forcing a rekick. The Golden Bears pounced on it the second time, and the Heels came up short. The Pirates were dumped at home by North Carolina A&T, their second straight season with a loss to an FCS foe. Head coach Scottie Montgomery definitely needs a signature win badly to avoid the hot seat from getting any hotter. These two sides last met on Sept. 20, 2014, and the Pirates hung a 70-burger on the Heels in their 70-41 victory as the 'over' obviously cashed. It was halcyon times for the East Carolina offense under Ruffin McNeil. It's a new regime, but it's likely something the UNC coaching staff is using for motivation.

Clemson at Texas A&M (ESPN, 7:00 p.m.)
The ACC slate isn't terribly attractive this week, but the Clemson Tigers have an attractive matchup as they travel to College Station for an ACC-SEC showdown. The Tigers opened with a ho-hum win over FCS Furman last week, but it's all hands on deck this week against the Aggies. A&M pasted FCS Northwestern State by a 59-7 count, covering 46 1/2 points along the way, but this week will obviously be much more challenging. The Aggies have won 29 straight non-conference tilts, but the task to push it to 30 will be rather daunting since they're double-digit underdogs at home. Clemson is 8-2 ATS in their past 10 non-conference battles and 7-3-1 ATS in their past 11 against winning sides. They're also 4-1 ATS in the past five against the SEC and 6-2 ATS in the past eight in September, although they did fail to cover a big number against the Paladins a week ago. The Aggies are 5-2-1 ATS in their past eight in front of the 12th man, but just 1-5 ATS in their past six tries against ACC foes.

Virginia at Indiana (Big Ten Network, 7:30 p.m.)
An underrated game on the slate this week might be UVA and IU. The Hoos exacted a little revenge on FCS Richmond, squishing the Spiders 42-13 to easily cover a 14 1/2-point number. While a trip to Florida International isn't viewed as a tough battle, facing the South Florida heat and humidity while opening on the road is impressive. The Hoosiers won it 38-28, but a score with 6:04 to go by FIU gave the Golden Panthers the cover. IU did roll up 465 total yards of offense, including 213 yards on the ground. Virginia will be looking to return the favor after losing on their home field to the Hoosiers last season, 34-17. The Cavs are 5-2 ATS in their past seven against winning sides, and 13-6-1 ATS in their past 20 on the road against teams with a winning home mark. The Hoosiers have managed just a 2-5-1 ATS in their past eight games at 'The Rock', while going 1-8-1 ATS over the past 10 overall.

Penn State at Pittsburgh (ABC, 8:00 p.m.)

The Nittany Lions and Panthers claw at each other in the Steel City in one of the better rivalries in college football. Penn State nearly entered this game 0-1 with an embarrassing loss, holding off giant-killer Appalachian State in overtime last weekend in Happy Valley. Everyone left the stadium relieved, but a little surprised and stressed out. The Panthers humped up on FCS Albany by a 33-7 score, narrowly failing to cover on a 26 1/2-point number. The defense was good, but the offense needs to be better to hang with Penn State. The Lions are 10-2-2 ATS in the past 14 against teams with a winning record, 4-1-1 ATS in their past six outside of the conference (although that loss was last week) and 3-1-1 ATS in the past five against ACC clubs. They're also 7-2 ATS in the past nine on the road. Pitt is 4-0 ATS in the past four against winning teams, but a dismal 8-20 ATS in the past 28 at home and 1-5-1 ATS in the past seven against the Big Ten. In this series, however, the underdog is 5-0-1 ATS in the past six, with Penn State just 1-4-1 ATS in the past six meetings.

Other Games
Towson at Wake Forest (ACC, 12:00 p.m.)
Holy Cross at Boston College (ACC, 1:00 p.m.)
William & Mary at Virginia Tech (ACC, 2:00 p.m.)
Wagner at Syracuse (ACC, 3:30 p.m.)
Savannah State at Miami-Florida (ACC, 6:00 p.m.)
Indiana State at Louisville (ACC, 7:00 p.m.)
Samford at Florida State (ACC, 7:20 p.m.)

Tuesday?s six-pack

Six interesting spreads for this week?s college football:

? Boston College (-6) @ Wake Forest

? Miami Fla (-10) @ Toledo? Why are the Hurricanes in Ohio?

? Florida State (-3.5) @ Syracuse

? Rutgers @ Kansas (-3)? Jayhawks are favored to win???? Wow

? Boise State @ Oklahoma State (-3)

? LSU @ Auburn (-9.5)

Quote of the Day
?The only thing that I thought was weird, when we came back in the second time ? we?d been waiting for an hour, maybe hour and a half, and I just saw all these Mission BBQ boxes out. And I?m going, ?We?re playing a game.? I think it was 5 o?clock. It was crazy, considering our guys had been in there and had their pregame meal at 10.?
Dolphins coach Adam Gase, talking about his team eating during the second lightning delay Sunday

Tuesday?s quiz
Who was the Detroit Lions? QB last time they won a playoff game?

Monday?s quiz
Aaron Rodgers played his college football at California.

Sunday?s quiz
Poulan Weed Eater Bowl used to be played in Shreveport, LA every New Year?s Eve; it is still played there, but goes by a different name now.

***************************

Tuesday?s List of 13: Nobody asked me, but??.

13) IMG Academy is a prep school in Florida that specializes in sports training.

Of the 130 Division I-A football teams this fall, five starting QB?s are IMG graduates:

? Zack Annexstad, Minnesota
? Deondre Francois, Florida State
? Kellen Mond, Texas A&M
? Shea Patterson, Michigan
? Art Sitkowski, Rutgers

I?d say that is impressive for a high school, but IMG is no ordinary high school; its a factory for creating high-level athletes, which they do very well.

12) So I?m in line at the bank Friday and a guy in front of me is in line, holding a fishing pole; he gets to the teller?s window and puts the pole on the counter, while he gets a wad of cash.

Best that I know, and I?ve lived here my whole life, the closest body of water where fishing is possible is two miles away. Maybe he needed the cash for a Uber to get to the pond.

11) Then I go up the road for lunch, as I walk into the bar, one of the waiters compliments my sneakers, an old (but rarely worn) pair of Nikes that I recently found buried under a pile of stuff (not much gets thrown out at Armadillo World HQ).

Turns out this person knew from looking at my sneakers that they were made in 2005, and that I had taken good care of them. Not really, I just misplaced them and forgot about them, but they are still very comfortable, 13 years later.

10) Not sure if I?ve mentioned this before, but Washington Nationals? teenager Juan Soto has batted cleanup in eight games this season; he is the first teenager to bat cleanup in a major league game since Houston?s Cesar Cedeno, in 1970.

9) Basketball Hall of Fame does their induction weekend on first week of the NFL season, which means it gets totally overlooked; too bad. Wouldn?t late August be a better time?

8) Roommates in their college days at LSU: Phillies P Aaron Nola, Astros 3B Alex Bregman. Couple of All-Stars now.

7) Phillies are fading down the stretch; is it because their front office has lousy people skills? Few weeks ago, they sent starting pitcher Zach Eflin down to AAA for 10 days, simply because they could do that, keep him in turn because of a doubleheader, then bring him back after ten days. It cost Eflin $20,000 and nine days of major league service time.

Since that happened, Eflin is 1-3, 9.26 in five starts.

6) We talked last week about the two Detroit Tigers? TV announcers who got into a scuffle in the TV booth after the game Tuesday; turns out they?ve both been suspended for the rest of the season. Fact of the matter is, I would fire both of them, since they?re not very good anyway.

5) Alabama QB Jalen Hurts will likely redshirt this season; thanks to a new NCAA rule, Hurts can play in four games this season and still redshirt.

Not sure how that changes anything, since he and Tua Tagovailoa would both still at Alabama next year, but I guess Hurts could stay five years and start again when he is a 5th-year senior, after Tagovailoa graduates, unless Alabama recruits a younger QB in 2020 to start this mess all over again.

4) Hall of Fame defensive end Jason Taylor is now defensive coordinator at St Thomas Aquinas HS down in Florida, one of the better high school programs in the Sunshine State.

3) There are 3,123 entrants in the Westgate SuperContest; at $1,500 a pop, that means the prize pool is a cool $4,684,500. Whoever wins will bank over a million bucks.

That said, 19 entrants didn?t put picks in for Week 1- at $1,500 a pop, thats $28,500 down the proverbial drain.

2) After returning from his injury Sunday night, Aaron Rodgers was 17-23 for 273 yards, three TDs; he was 3-7 for 13 yards before the injury. Sometimes life makes no sense.

1) When Eastern Michigan upset Purdue 20-19 Saturday, it was only their second win in 40 football games against Big 14 opponents.

Books capture Week 1 win
September 10, 2018
By Micah Roberts

Aaron Rodgers got hurt, Ryan Fitzpatrick had a career day and the Browns didn't lose. The end result for Las Vegas sports books was a winning day for all to kick off Week 1 of the NFL season.

"The day went well, we had a good morning, but the afternoon games hit us a little bit," said MGM Resorts sports book hub manager Jeff Stoneback. "The public was all over the Saints, so the Bucs winning outright was our biggest win of the day. But we had a guy with deep pockets, a casino player, that bet the Panthers-Cowboys game Under a couple of times."

The Panthers (-3) won a 16-8 home match against the Cowboys, who were playing without All-Pro center Travis Frederick, keeping the total 'under' 42 total points. The Buccaneers 48-40 win at New Orleans was the largest total ever scored in an NFL Week 1 game, and it was also the biggest underdog of the week to win outright among the four that did so on Sunday.

"Wow, Fitzpatrick looked awfully sharp today, without a doubt," said South Point sports book director Chris Andrews.

Fitzpatrick, a journeyman from Harvard, had a career day with 417 yards and four passing touchdowns and also had a rushing TD. Who had him on their fantasy roster? Not me. He was filling in for Jameis Winston who was serving a three-game suspension for groping an Uber driver in Scottsdale back in 2016. Winston is the same guy who stole crab legs from a Tallahassee grocery store and was also accused of rape by a Florida State student. The Bucs straight-up win paid a city-high of +425 at Boyd Gaming properties.

The next biggest decision was the Browns 21-21 tie at home against the bully of the NFC North Pittsburgh, who dropped from a seven-point road favorite back in April to -3.5 by kickoff.

"The public bet the Steelers a bunch so it helped us minimize the sharp wagers we had taken on the Browns since we first posted the number," Stoneback said. "They were even taking +3.5 today. We ended up closing Steelers -3.5, +105."

The Browns went winless last season and are 1-31 the past two seasons (8-24 against the spread), but they played inspired football late in the game and that defense is going to make noise this season. They were 10/1 to win the division at the Westgate Las Vegas Superbook before wagering cutoff on it.

While the Browns decision worked well for the house, the biggest loss at most shops was the Ravens 47-3 win, easily covering the 7.5-point spread against the hapless Bills who started Nathan Peterman at QB that posted an obscene 0.0 QB rating.

"We got a little back with the Bills at +9 and we jacked up the money-line as well to entice and get some money back, but we still lost big on the Ravens," said Andrews.

Joe Flacco tossed three TD passes in the win and it seemed every bettor had the Ravens on their parlays.

"The Ravens and Vikings were no good," said CG Technology risk manager Jason Simbal. "But everything else was okay, or good. Our best games were the Chiefs and Bucs."

The Vikings (-6) held on to win 24-16 against the 49ers handing Jimmy Garoppolo his first loss as an NFL starter. The Chiefs (+3.5) routed the Chargers, 38-28, in what looked like a home game for KC in Carson, California.

Perhaps one of the biggest surprises of the day was just how lousy the Cardinals (-2) were, or maybe how good the Redskins were, in Washington's 24-6 win.

"I didn't see a lot of the game, but the Redskins stat sheet looked impressive and we needed them because wise-guys came in late on Arizona," said Andrews who closed Arizona -2 after being -1 for the last five months. William Hill closed at a city high of -2.5.

By the way, the South Point is decked out for the NASCAR race they're sponsoring this weekend, the first time Las Vegas Motor Speedway is hosting a Cup Series date in the fall. Two races this season and beyond. Woo-hoo, the South Point 400, drop the green flag already.

As far as the Cardinals point-spread rating going southward, Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook director Ed Salmons said he immediately dropped the Cards rating two points and pointed out how tough their road schedule was. They play at the Rams next week. I could make an argument that the Cards rating should drop four points.

Arizona had 24 new players on their roster, including a new quarterback, as well as a new head coach with a new a new offensive scheme headed up by Tim Tebow's old offensive coordinator Mike McCoy. The Cards possessed the ball only 21 minutes and looked as if they deserved to be rated on the bottom of the swamp with Buffalo. Hello Josh Rosen! Two weeks?

William Hill's Nick Bogdanovich 100-plus books across the country said their books did okay and a Bears cover would enhance their standing on the day.

It happened. The Packers (-7) won 24-23, but the Bears covered after being up 20-0 when Aaron Rodgers went down with an early injury. He didn't play the first half. But then he did an epic 'Wes Unfeld returns to the court moment' and stormed them back for the Packers ninth win of the past 10 meetings with Chicago. More details to come on the Rodgers injury, but in the second half, he was poetry in motion writing an amazing chapter of his 'Hall of Fame' career.

Stratosphere sports book director Ed Malinowski was in the same boat needing the Bears to come up with a cover and the 'under' to better an already good day.

"We're up a little bit going into the late game," said Andrews just prior tokickoff. "We need either a Packers blowout of a Bears win to offset a lot of teaser risk. Parlay and teaser risk is pretty large with the Packers."

It turned out being all-way teaser win which surely had a negative effect everywhere. It alsomiddledthe total which had dropped to 46.5 at a few shops.

The books also got a nice bump to Week 1 with the Thursday night game.

"Thursday went well for us," Stoneback said of the Eagles 18-12 opening night win. "We closed the Falcons -1 after opening the Eagles -4."

Outside of Fitzpatrick and Rodgers, I think the thing that stuck with me most in Week 1 was Von Miller sacking Russell Wilson three times, Patrick Mahomes proving me wrong with his four TD passes, James Connor being just as good as Le'Veon Bell might have, and the Jaguars defense still being the best. The Redskins have something cooking and the Panthers also had a new vibe of urgency.

It was a great NFL Sunday, welcome back football!

Week 3 Injury Update
Brian Edwards

Let?s get you caught up on the most important injuries effecting a bunch of teams moving forward?

-- Oklahoma star RB Rodney Anderson is out for the season with a knee injury sustained in his team?s home win over UCLA this past Saturday. Anderson was a second-team All-Big-12 selection last year when he ran for 1,161 yards and 13 touchdowns with a 6.2 yards-per-carry average. He also had 17 catches for 281 yards and five TDs as a freshman. Anderson had 119 rushing yards and three TDs on just 11 attempts (10.8 YPC) so far this year. The Sooners are in revenge mode Saturday at Iowa St., which won 38-31 in Norman last year as a 31-point underdog. Also, junior starting DT Marquise Overton (appendix) is ?out? for OU. Overton had 43 tackles, three tackles for loss and one QB hurry in 2017.

-- OU isn?t the only team that lost its star RB in Week 2. Minnesota?s Rodney Smith also went down with a season-ending knee injury. Smith, a fifth-year senior, will apply for a sixth year of eligibility and P.J. Fleck told the media on Monday that he fully expects the NCAA to grant him another season. Smith ran for 977 yards and three TDs in ?17, averaging 4.3 YPC.

-- There are four QBs that have already been ruled ?out? for Week 3. Let?s start with Iowa State?s Kyle Kempt, who orchestrated the aforementioned upset at OU last year by completing 18-of-24 throws for 343 yards and three TDs without an interception. Kempt sustained a knee injury that?ll keep him on the sidelines for at least one game in his team?s 13-3 loss at Iowa this past Saturday. Kempt led the Cyclones to their first bowl bid since 2012 in ?17 when he threw for 1,787 yards (66.3% completions) with a 15/3 touchdown-to-interception ratio. Sophomore Zeb Noland is expected to get his second career start. Noland completed just 4-of-10 passes for 43 yards in relief of Kempt at Iowa.

-- Duke captured a bittersweet 21-7 win at Northwestern as a short underdog this past Saturday. Junior QB Daniel Jones injured his left clavicle and underwent surgery Sunday. He is out indefinitely. Jones has started 27 games in a row since the day he stepped on campus as a freshman. He had completed 29-of-39 passes (74.4%) for 389 yards and four TDs without an interception through two games. Jones has 5,916 career passing yards and a 34/20 TD-INT ratio. He also has 1,044 career rushing yards and 15 TDs. Unfortunately for David Cutcliffe, this wasn?t the only key injury for the Blue Devils. Junior CB Mark Gilbert had season-ending hip surgery on Sunday. He was a first-team All-ACC selection in ?17 when he had 35 tackles, 15 passes broken up, six interceptions and three TFL?s. Gilbert was a fourth-team All-American pick in Phil Steele?s preseason magazine, while Steele had senior safety Jeremy McDuffie as a preseason third-team All-ACC selection. McDuffie, who was a third-team All-ACC choice last year when he tallied 57 tackles, nine PBU, three interceptions, on pick-six, one QB hurry and 0.5 TFL?s, is listed as ?questionable? Saturday at Baylor due to an undisclosed injury. And finally, WR Aaron Young is also a question mark with an undisclosed issue. Young had 16 catches for 219 yards and one TD in ?17.

-- San Diego State senior QB Christian Chapman (13/4 TD-INT in ?17) is ?out? for the next 3-6 weeks with a sprained MCL sustained in his team?s 28-14 home win. The Aztecs will play host to unbeaten Arizona St. on Saturday.

-- New Mexico QB Tevaka Tuioti is ?out? Saturday at New Mexico St. due to a concussion. Also, back-up QB Coltin Gerhart is a ?questionable? with a foot injury.

-- There also a bunch of QBs listed as ?questionable? in Week 3, including Illinois signal caller A.J. Bush, Nebraska?s Adrian Martinez (knee), Rutgers?s Artur Sitkowski (arm), Texas Tech?s McLane Carter (ankle) and Southern Cal?s J.T. Daniels (hand).

-- Ole Miss WR DaMarkus Lodge missed this past week?s 76-41 home win over Southern Illinois due to concussion symptoms. He is still in concussion protocol and day to day. Lodge had 41 receptions for 698 yards and seven TDs last season. He had six catches for 96 yards in a 47-27 win over Texas Tech in the Rebels? opener.

-- Florida was without its two best defensive players, LB David Reese and DE CeCe Jefferson, in Saturday?s 27-16 home loss vs. Kentucky. Reese, a fourth-team preseason All-American in Steele?s mag, has missed the first two games with a high-ankle sprain sustained in late August. Jefferson has been suspended for the first two UF games. Dan Mullen said he expects both players to be ready for Saturday?s home game vs. Colorado St. However, starting sophomore CB Marco Wilson was lost to a season-ending ACL tear in the first quarter vs. UK. Wilson started all 11 games as a true freshman last year.

-- Washington All-American OT Trey Adams had surgery on his injured back last week. He is out indefinitely and will more than likely miss the entire season.

-- Fresno State sophomore OT Netane Muti, who started 13 of 14 games in '17 and was a preseason third-team All-MWC pick in Steele's mag, tore his Achilles in Saturday's loss at Minnesota and will miss the rest of the year.

-- Georgia Tech RB KirVonte Benson is 'questionable' at Pittsburgh after leaving Saturday's loss at USF with a leg injury. Benson rushed for 1,053 yards and six TDs with a 5.2 YPC average in '17. QB TaQuon Marshall also left the USF game injured, but he's 'probable' against the Panthers.

-- South Carolina's best defensive lineman, D.J. Wonnum, is expected to miss about four weeks with a ligament tear in his ankle. Wonnum didn't play vs. UGA. He had 56 tackles, seven TFL's, six sacks, five PBU and two QB hurries last year. DB Nick Harvey, a grad transfer from Texas A&M, was suspended for the loss to UGA and is 'questionable' vs. Marshall.

As for the weather, Hurricane Florence was upgraded to a Category 4 on Monday with the governors of South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia ordering mandatory evacuations for those along the coast starting Tuesday. Coastal Carolina has already moved its game vs. Campbell to Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. Eastern.

South Carolina is scheduled to host Marshall on Saturday, but classes at the school have already been cancelled indefinitely starting tomorrow. Clemson is slated to play Georgia Southern at home, while North Carolina is preparing for UCF in Chapel Hill. As for Duke, it is on the road at Baylor.

East Carolina is at Virginia Tech in Week 3, so that?s another game that could be impacted. Virginia is set to host Ohio. Whether these games get moved to a different day or postponed remains to be seen and if they?re played, weather could be an important factor.

4th Quarter Covers - Week 2
September 9, 2018
By Joe Nelson

Glancing at the scoreboard won?t tell you the whole story in most games. Here are some of the games that went down to the wire relative to the spread in the fourth quarter last week in the second big college football weekend. Each week there are several teams that cover despite not necessarily deserving it, as well as other teams that played much better than the final score shows.

TCU (-23?) 42, SMU 12: The Mustangs led 9-0 early looking like a promising underdog Friday night in a game that started late after a long weather delay. A 78-yard punt return touchdown put TCU on the board and by halftime, the Horned Frogs led 14-12. SMU allowed its fourth non-offensive touchdown of the season in just two games with a fumble return for a touchdown in the third quarter and TCU slipped past the spread with two fourth quarter touchdowns for a 30-point win, the last score coming with just over six minutes remaining on a drive of only 15 yards after another long punt return.

South Florida (+3?) 49, Georgia Tech 38: The home underdog Bulls led much of the game, but Georgia Tech scored on a pair of Tobias Oliver touchdown runs surrounding the switch to the fourth quarter to suddenly lead 38-28 on the road. South Florida quickly answered to climb back within three and then got a red zone fumble and went 88 yards in 10 plays to take the lead. Georgia Tech threw an interception a few plays later which the Bulls eventually turned into another score to secure the minor upset.

Florida Atlantic (-8?) 33, Air Force 27: Bouncing back from a tough opening performance, Florida Atlantic had a 19-7 halftime lead but Air Force battled back to make it a five-point game by the start of the fourth quarter. Florida Atlantic slipped past the favorite number with a 26-yard touchdown pass and added the two-point conversion to lead by 13. Twice Air Force was stopped going for it on fourth down as it appeared that margin would hold, but with under a minute remaining, a Florida Atlantic punt was blocked and returned for a touchdown as Air Force stole the late the late cover.

NC State (-26?) 41, Georgia State 7: NC State fell behind 7-0 to start the game but took control from there and the outcome was never threatened. The Wolfpack were only leading by 20 heading into the fourth quarter and it appeared likely to stay that way until Brady Bodine broke a 39-yard run for a score following a fourth down failure for Georgia State. That put NC State just past the spread with just over three minutes remaining and after a fumble recovery, NC State added a second late score for a misleading final margin.

Oklahoma (-30?) 49, UCLA 21: The Sooners were adjusted to a massive favorite price against UCLA following contrasting Week 1 results and Oklahoma looked like they would still surpass the spread with a 49-14 edge halfway through the fourth quarter. With about four minutes remaining, UCLA completed a 13-play, 85-yard drive for the cover-spoiling score to losing by only 28. Oklahoma only had a yardage edge of 102 yards as the Bruins compiled some late production after allowing six touchdowns in a row after the early 7-0 advantage.

Navy (+6?) 22, Memphis 21: Memphis used two big runs to break open this AAC opener leading 21-9 through three quarters. Navy took advantage of a fumble and found the end zone two plays later with great field position, cutting the margin to just five points and enough for the underdog cover. A 3-and-out was forced defensively and Navy melted nearly seven minutes of clock in going 13 plays for the go-ahead touchdown with just over two minutes remaining for the outright win. Memphis reached the Navy 34-yard-line on its final possession, but failed on 4th down as the Midshipmen held on.

Colorado (+3) 33, Nebraska 28: The Huskers had to wait an extra week for the opener in the Scott Frost era and Nebraska quickly fell behind 14-0 vs. a former Big 8 foe. Nebraska would battle back and eventually took a 28-20 lead on a 57-yard pass play late in the third quarter. Colorado would answer to sit in position to cover, opting not to go for two down two late in the third quarter and trailing by one heading into the final frame. Miscues on both sides followed in the final frame with matching missed field goals before both teams were stopped on 4th-and-1 plays just across midfield.

Nebraska had the ball back up one at the 50-yard-line with six minutes remaining but Adrian Martinez threw an interception on first down. Colorado didn?t take advantage with another missed field goal but the Buffaloes held on defense to get the ball back with just over two minutes remaining. An unnecessary roughness penalty converted a 3rd-and-24 for Colorado and on the next play, Steven Montez delivered with a 40-yard touchdown strike to put the Buffaloes in front with a minute remaining. The two-point conversion was missed as the window was open for Nebraska but the Huskers could not come up with the game-winning score despite reaching the Colorado 20-yard-line in the final seconds.

Iowa (-3) 13, Iowa State 3: This rivalry was tied just 3-3 at halftime and Iowa led just 6-3 through three quarters, even with the closing spread though the Hawkeyes were a slightly larger favorite much of the week. After making a 48-yard field goal, Miguel Recinos missed from 50 early in the fourth quarter but on Iowa?s next possession, the Hawkeyes converted several big third downs on the way to completing an 83-yard touchdown drive to seal the win. Iowa State was a late threat to potentially spoil the cover but after a big 23-yard gain Zeb Noland, who took over after Kyle Kempt was injured, fumbled on a sack two plays later to end the threat near midfield.

Maryland (-13) 45, Bowling Green 14: A glance at the box score suggests a typical B10-MAC blowout with Maryland winning by 31 and posting a 565-158 yardage edge. Bowling Green led 40 minutes into this game and the Terrapins led just 17-14 when the clock hit 15:00 to start the fourth quarter as Bowling Green managed to stay in this game. Maryland added four touchdowns in the fourth quarter while compiling big yardage for some misleading numbers.

Baylor (-16?) 37, Texas-San Antonio 20: -17 was the common number on this game Friday and Saturday before the Bears closed at -16?. The Bears led by 14 entering the fourth quarter, but Texas-San Antonio got the game back within seven and sat in a good position to cover after holding Baylor to a field goal to trail by 10. The Roadrunners went backwards from there however and Baylor managed to burn out most of the remaining time in a 12-play drive that completed with a touchdown for a 17-point lead in the final two minutes.

Clemson (-11?) 28, Texas A&M 26:
Clemson led 28-13 in College Station heading into the fourth quarter but the Tigers ran out of gas and nearly got caught for a major upset. The Aggies were in position to score down eight just ahead of the two-minute mark but a fumble was controversially ruled a touchback on a close call. Texas A&M forced a 3-and-out and found the end zone two plays later, but wound up with an interception on the potential tying two-point conversion as Clemson escaped but gave away the cover.

Minnesota (+1) 21, Fresno State 14: The Gophers led by three entering the fourth quarter and added Emmit Carpenter?s second field goal of 50 or more yards in the game to lead by six. A Fresno State 45-yard touchdown pass shifted the result a few plays later however as the Bulldogs led by one, closing as slight favorite but dogged most of the week. Minnesota answered with a 10-play touchdown drive and a successful two-point conversion put the Gophers up by seven heading into the final minutes. Fresno State converted a big 4th-and-3 play late in the game and had a new set of downs at the Minnesota 4-yard line, but Antoine Winfield Jr. made a spectacular interception on a trick play attempt to seal the win and cover for Minnesota.

Colorado State (+13?) 34, Arkansas 27: The Rams had miserable results in the first two games of the season looked on their way to another lopsided loss trailing 27-9 late in the third quarter hosting Arkansas. A touchdown plus a two-point conversion put Colorado State within 10 at the end of the frame and the Rams took over in the fourth. Following three consecutive Arkansas punts, Colorado State scored 17 points including the go-ahead touchdown in the final seconds for the upset.

Oklahoma State (-30?) 55, South Alabama 13: The Cowboys weren?t quite past the number with a 41-13 edge through three quarters but scored within the first minute of the final frame and then added another late touchdown to confirm the result.

Missouri (-20?) 40, Wyoming 13: Missouri led by just 20 heading into the fourth quarter but added 10 points early in the final frame to slide past the favorite spread that nearly reached three touchdowns. Wyoming added a late field goal and had the ball back across midfield in the final minute but simply opted to fold with a late punt.

Utah (-13) 17, Northern Illinois 6: The spread results on this game were varied as the Utes were -10 much of week and right at -11 late in the week before a late climb to -13 by kickoff. It didn?t look likely to matter in this low scoring grind as Northern Illinois hit a field goal with seven minutes remaining to make it a one-point game. Utah answered in kind to go back up by four and then got a game-changing play on defense with an interception returned 40 yards for a touchdown. The Huskies would reach the Utah 35-yard-line on its final possession but the Utes would hold to win by 11.

Arizona State (+4?) 16, Michigan State 13:
The late night B1G/Pac-12 clash featured just three points by halftime but the Spartans managed to pull away in the third quarter with a 16-3 advantage as a slight road favorite. The Spartans got a big stop to hold ASU to a short field goal early in the fourth quarter but the game turned with back-to-back big pass plays for a two-play touchdown drive for the Sun Devils to tie the game. Michigan State went backwards after crossing into Sun Devils territory, eventually facing 3rd-and-34 after a fumble on a sack and Arizona State made the most of its final opportunity lining up a field goal for the win as time expired.

Washington State (-30?) 31, San Jose State 0: Washington State isn?t known for its defense but they held San Jose State to only 109 yards last week. The Cougars led 24-0 at the half but then didn?t score again until less than five minutes remaining, slipping past the closing spread although much of the week Washington State was priced higher than 31.
