Derek Jeter, the greatest shortstop ever.

:142smilie

As Jack pointed out, you are the one cherry picking stats. I put up stats that are encompassing of a player's overall value. You point out stats that only support Jeter because of his longevity. And yes, he's played 20 seasons and was rarely hurt and racked up the hits, definitely deserves accolades if they are for that and his longevity. But take a step back and look at the big picture. He was below average as a defensive shortstop and that negated what he brought to the table for his teams by a good offensive shortstop. Ever hear of UZR?

And yes, I would consider A-Rod a better shortstop then Jeter if he had stayed at the position or if he moves back even.

You are blinded obviously so I'm not sure what the point of arguing any further is. I'll stand by what I said earlier. The only people that would think he is the 'greatest' are either Jeter or Yankee fans.

Seems you're cherry picking too.

Don't know how you can possibly put Jeter ahead of Ripken either.

Ripken compared to Jeter is a joke.

Ripken, in his ONE World Series appearance, batted .167 compared to Jeter's SEVEN World Series' appearances batted .321

Jeter's career batting average is .310. Ripken's is .276. Jeter also had a much better OBP, .374 to .340. Jeter also out-slugged Ripken .465 to .447

Jeter far superior.

RBI's, doubles, home runs, walks, All Star appearances, 2 time AL MVP.

Give it up.

Cherry picking, cherry picking, cherry picking.

Here is something to consider, Jeter was in the World Series seven times due to the overall strength of his team/teammates and not solely because of him. Shocking thought huh?

LOL Are you fucking serious?

Ripken batted 3rd, Jeter leadoff and 2nd. Two completely different roles. Ripken's job was to drive in runs, Jeter's wasn't.

Ripken, by comparison, was a poor hitter. A career sub .280 hitter LMFAO.

MVP awards mean nothing. If you think they do, then everyone who ever won an MVP would be considered better. Ask a baseball fan if Jimmy Rollins is a better player than Derek Jeter LMFAO.

Jeter also has the highest career batting average ever for a shortstop in the modern era. Only two shortstops in history have a higher lifetime average (Wagner and Vaughn) and they both played before integration LOL.

Jeter's career OBP is better than any shortstop in the last 50 years except A-Rod and he cheated to get his.

And let's not even bring up postseason numbers because Jeter makes the comparison a complete joke.

All-Time Postseason MLB Records..

You know there is a two edged sword when you talk about totals, especially when Jeter has played in the most postseason games (Which has more to do with a team than an individual) and has the most at bats.

Derek Jeter has struck out more times in the postseason than any other player... All-time

Hey Philly is Defense NOT a big part of being a SS? Just saying...not one line on that so who is cheery picking?

5 Gold Gloves isn't good defense? Being above the league average for your entire career isn't good?

Check this out...

Is Derek Jeter the greatest shortstop ever?

http://espn.go.com/newyork/hot/?id=8315065

Cal Ripken WISHES he had Derek Jeter's Career....

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/early-lead/wp/2014/04/02/cal-ripken-jr-would-rather-have-had-derek-jeters-career/

http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/04/02/cal-ripken-would-rather-have-derek-jeters-career-than-his-own/

Also, Jeter had almost 300 more hits than Ripken and Ripken played in almost 300 more games than Jeter.

He may not be the greatest shortstop ever, but he is definitely in the running for most overrated player ever.

Jeter is not the best SS ever, but he maximized his talent over the course of a 20 year hall of fame career. IMO he's earned the praise that has been heaped on by fans, peers and media.

Keith Olbermann is the anti-Jeter. He is an angry guy who is routinely fired and dismissed despite his high aptitude and obvious talent. Many will say--Dan Patrick comes to mind---, that KO is among the most talented on air personalities in the business. His elitist attitude, sense of entitlement, hot temper and massive ego have led him to bounce around from network to network. When he quits, no one will care.

Derek Jeter is easily the greatest shortstop ever. In big games, he sets himself apart.

Not only is he is the greatest SS ever, he's the best postseason player that ever lived. Period.
