First Friday

The first Friday of every month, several streets are blocked off in the Art District. Artists, artisans, vendors, and food trucks set up, and it's like a big fair. We went for the first time tonight, and it was ok. The music was horrific. Every singer there sucked so bad! We probably won't do it again because art is really not my thing. I like some art, but I can think of a lot of other things I would rather do.

We valet parked at the D where this funny fountain is.

Shots from around town while running errands this morning.

A future patient I'm sure. I can just see the road rash and compound tib/fib fracture now. You have to be completely insane to drive these things around Las Vegas.

I thought this was hilarious. The city has taken the time to put a sign here to not feed the birds, yet obviously they are being fed because they are congregating under it. B says I'm stupid, but I call pigeons my "friends". I love feeding them  when I was at home I loved hunting the nuisance ones in cattle lots at a friend's farm. Go figure.

I'm at Caesar's Palace.

I played some poker and continue to run horribly. K10>JJ and K6>KJ

More later.

My buddy from home sent me a horse he loves. I know very little about horses, but I bet it anyway, but instead of to win I bet it to place. It came in second. I took my ticket to the window (I bet $40 on it), and the cashier gives me back $44.

What a great tip that was. I love betting 10 to win 1. Screw horses.

Horses and Ulysses, they are the fucking rake!

When are u coming out?

Venetian

Yesterday I decided to play the last tournament of the current DeepStakes event at the Venetian. Tournaments usually aren't my thing, but I thought I would switch it up and see if I could run any better. I played tight position poker and got my money in good even up until I got knocked out. The Venetian has a premium poker room, but recently they have lowered their comps from $2 to $1 per hour, and I'm a little jinxed in that casino,so I don't play there much.

The starting stack was 12k, and I had 27k by the first break. This was a bounty tournament, so for every person u knock out, u get their $100 black chip. The entry was $300 total, and I had 2 black chips in the first two hours.

I chipped up to my highest at 65k then went completely stone card dead. I'm talking 2 7 three out of 4 hands along with k2, q4, j3, etc. I couldn't find a place to make a move and ended up getting knocked out in 15th when the tourney paid 12. Allen Cunningham was at my table for 5 hours, so that was cool having one of the best players of all time two to my right. He was reserved but very nice and not a dick like so many of these guys are. He went out in about 20th place.

The guy who knocked me out was all in twice before. He had aj vs JJ and lucked into a 4 card flush, and after that, his QQ beat KK after his opponent flopped a set. He was running like God at the perfect time. Must be nice!

It was a good experience, and I'll do it again. It was completely draining though; that's why you see so many young guys in the big multi-day tournaments. It's too much for older guys like me hahaha..

I know that my good friend Dogs That Bark hasn't posted in a long time, but I happened to see him yesterday. He is now dealing at the Venetian!! Go figure

It's raining and 64 degrees in Las Vegas!

Back at home it's 80. It rains about 5 times a year here I would guess, so it's rare.

I went to Target, and every time I see liquor on an endcap not in a liquor store it always seems so weird.

Tuesday, my friend Anthony wanted to hang out and play poker. We had to go early bc he works overnight at the Mirage, and I had to work Tuesday night. He wanted to play at Caesars, so I agreed even though it has been brutal to me lately. I sat down at a table full of people who had played all night. In order, the stack sizes were

1) old man (more on him later) $200
2) 40ish Asian lady $1000
3) pretty Asian 30is $500
4) Middle Eastern tourist $400
5) me $200
6) aggrotard local maniac who I have played with before $1200
7) local young "pro" $300
8) mid 40s fat white lady who I'm told by the 1 seat is a regular and a luck box $1600
9) older nit $200

Lots of money for a 1/2 game, and therefore it played a whole lot bigger

I played fairly tight and was the victim of bad players catching cards a few times. I lost my $200 buyin. I stood up and said I would be back. The Asian lady left a winner, the old man took her seat, and I sat in the 1. I took a little time and re bought for $120. About 4 hands in, I am dealt two red aces. I make it 17 to go, and aggrotard calls me. I check the a 10 5 rainbow flop. Aggro bets the deuce turn for $60, I go all in, and boom, double up. I win a couple of other hands, and I'm sitting on $260.

I get dealt 10 10 UTG and call the $2. Several calls to the 1 seat who makes it $12. I call, the 4 calls, and the 8 calls. Flop is a 10 5 with two hearts (BOOM!!!). The 1 leads for $50, and out of turn, the 8 makes it $100. Action goes back to me, and i nonchalantly call the $50. 4 folds, and the 8 is obligated to complete her action and raise to $100. The 1 calls and I shove for $125 more. The 8 folds instantly (I'm quite sure she had a flush draw), and the 1 calls and guesses my hand out loud, "a 10?" I say no and throw my set face up, he has AK, and the next two cards don't matter and I scoop the $600 plus pot. I got up to around $650, lost a little back, and cashed a $325 winner. Anthony left a $125 winner.

The old man in the 1 seat is 86 years old. He came to vegas in the 60s, and he told me he was a pit boss for many years. He epitomizes the grumpy old man often berating other players for slow play or the dealers for inefficiently running the game. The 6 seat went broke after calling off the 4s all in bet of $700 with a flush draw  the 8 also went bust after mixing it up and trying to run over the table. We all got a piece of her. They both should have quit big winners and played too long. It's a real art knowing when to leave a poker game.

I worked that night and felt horrible. Running to the bathroom constantly and later a fever
b0c074f73d57f4fdd24e54a3d920eb89.jpg

Thankfully, I was off Wednesday and got to feeling way better. I felt good enough in fact to head out Thursday morning to play again. I grinded out a 5 hour session and $29 win. I then lost $300 at BJ, won $300 at roulette, and then I lost another $100 at Bj.

Here's a phone charger my mom sent to me.

It works awesomely if you are in the market.

My patients are horrible tonight, so maybe more later.

After a 14 hour binge at Caesars palace on Saturday/Sunday that netted me a short loss, I played at the Hard Rock last night. I really enjoyed the game and they played all music from my twenties including Pantera, Metallica, and GnR. The game there is an uncapped 1/3 meaning you can buy in for 100 up to infinity. There was a ton of money on the table and many bad players. I ended up losing after the same guy flopped a set on me when I had aces and when I had kings. I didn't play poorly, and I felt I had some poor luck. It's a beatable game and plays a lot like the home games back in Kentucky.

The Iceman Teddy Monroe was there. I didn't know him, but I looked him up at the table, and it seems he's quite a well known guy and not for good reasons. There's a huge 2+2 thread about him if u would like to read about his exploits, scams, and bans from poker rooms, or u can just google search. I will be back there again with what I hope is a better result. It's definitely a game I can beat. I don't really feel like writing much more. Going to be working 7 out of 8 days starting tonight.

I work in a grocery store and we have liquor and beer all over the place. I would imagine even more so in a 24 hour place like Vegas. Perhaps a state like kentucky it would be less so.

Been awhile since I played in Vegas. I heard cash doesn't play anymore. I remember one time playing at Binions and some guy dressed in a zoot suit with a crown royal bag with money and bought in for like $5000. I was like "WTF?" Went like one orbit and he got up and left. Dealer told me it was the 'Duke of Fremont'. Another time played with a funny British pro named 'Mad Marty' Wilson. We all ended up doing several orbits of $20 button straddles. Damn probably the juciest and most sociably fun game I ever played in. Of course I was card dead and lost around $300 but it was fun. I still remember him talking trash and my favorite was "God I love you americans, you never give up." :142smilie

JT, I have been all over the country and never have seen liquor on endcaps at Walmart/Target/Dollar General etc. Until I saw it in Vegas

The only place I have seen $100s play here is at the Hard Rock last night. I think this is fairly new policy the last two or three years.

I have been reading about Iceman all afternoon. Very funny stuff.

Sorry, was thinking in terms of regular grocery stores. Now that I think about it I don't remember one being in our local target. Been a lifetime since i've been in Wallyworld.
Where do you live? I have a older retired friend who moved to north Vegas about a year ago. Never played Hard Rock. Imagine it would give me a headache with the loud music.

Upstairs watching sports on the big TV.
Try the Cal

Try the Cal

They put their patrons into a hypnotic trance with whiney bi-tonal elevator music.

I suspect in this day and age it is laced with subliminal messages...."sure you can win." "of course that VP machine is due." "Roulette is your friend." "Whiskey is therapeutic"

Have you been to the downtown breakfast/lunch joint called Eat? Was the best meal I had last time I was in Vegas. Had the Pasole soup and Oyster PoBoy. Few tables around us were having breakfast and it looked amazing as well. Reasonably priced. Definitely worth checking out.
