One of the best pictures of Ditka as coach of the Bears is him flipping off a photographer as he walked off the field. Pretty sure none of the commentary about being immature or needing to be put in his place was directed at Iron Mike after that incident.

You have to acknowledge that a bit of the perception is just due to the 24/7 media world we are in now. Ditka had DWI's and all sort of incidents back in the day. Manziel is a brash cocky young sports star, its not like those didn't happen in any prior era's. There are stories about Bo Jackson coming into the KC Royals locker room for the first time asking if any of the players wanted his autograph. Jordan is another example. He partied off the field back in the day more than Manziel does now, but no one thought he was a twerp.
