Mully...
Don't get here much anymore but this is close to home for me and I truly wish you the best!!
My suggestion would be AA immediately. Millions have been where you are and have found help from day one. You'll be with good people like yourself ...people who have been there ..done that and more. BEST!
bear

Mully it appears you really need to heed this advice.
Get help before its to late buddy. Good luck!

You are so right Jack
It's all right there
The path..the one and only path..
He was there bathing in all it's splendor.

SOBRIETY

I could read his words at a meeting and get thru to the first timers at the meeting quicker than I ever have before.

Thinking of you Mully..

Mully,
I wish you the best in your battles...Like many others I've battled certain habits that were very self-destructive and I also just couldn't do them in moderation. I was lucky in that I stopped almost all of them cold turkey. For someone like me, I just had to stop, moderation didn't work. I think there are many people here who sincerely care and are giving good advice, one in particular I would really take to heart if I were you is the advice of Old School.
Once again I wish you nothing but the best and look forward to reading how you were able to defeat these problems and move forward!!!

Ok, you have a choice........you can feel sorry for yourself as you obviously have for the past four months.........OR ......you can pick your ass up and dust yourself off and begin a new? You see, I left a 150k a year job and divorce, bankruptcy, you name it over 12 years ago. I am now 52. and took a 80K loss in salary, I paid child support of 1300 a month too. And sucked up some humility and pulled my shit together. Do not blame your wife, her parents or anyone else for your lot in life. When you accept responsibility for your sad life, you will understand that it is your fuck ups, not others and that you can take your life in a different direction. As for me, I am making more money than I ever thought I would ever, and it happened because I pulled my boot straps up and got my ass in gear. I do not feel sorry for you Mully, you need to look in the fricken mirror bro. If you want sympathy, you will not find it here.

Hey Mully...

I've never been addicted to anything in my life. I do have an addictive personality though. I started taking Xanax a few months ago to get through a tough time after a girl I loved dearly broke up with me. I found myself taking the Xanax more and more. I started thinking, "holy shit, I'm addicted to this stuff. I need to stop." So I quit right then and there. I started to feel real anxiety just a day or two later. It kept getting worse. But I refused to give in. I kept thinking, "I can do this. I AM STRONGER THAN THE DRUG." And guess what? I was. I haven't had one in a month and feel no need to take one to get through the day. It's in the past now.

YOU CAN DO IT TOO!

If you don't quit, your liver will start to fail and become diseased. I'm sorry if that sounds harsh, but that's just the real fact of it. PERIOD. It was not made to overcome heavy alcohol abuse. When it goes, so will you. You can't survive without it. Cirrhosis of the Liver is the 12th leading cause of death and alcohol abuse is one of the primary factors of the disease.

Life is too precious to let alcohol win over you. LIFE IS TOO PRECIOUS MULLY. It's a gift and you do mean something in this world. Make up your mind to stop and get the help you need. There are plenty of programs out there to help you.

Great job thus far. Keep it up!

btw, the anxiety (as well as the probable loss of appetite and difficulty sleeping) are common side effects associated with withdrawal fom xanax and other drugs of this type.
