Makes no sense that the cops would let the farmer carry a loaded weapon. Can't imagine that is protocol anywhere.

Where it is real F ing COLD
That's what I was wondering. He'll get his in the end. What an asshole!

Who knows what the rednecks laws in Georgia are. I know in Minnesota a guy shot a neighbor's cat with a bow. He had to pay for the neighbor's to get a new cat and little for pain and suffering, but not much.

This farmer obviously shot the dog in retaliation to the trespassing making up some dumb ass lie.

Those cops are fuking idiots. I would talk to an attorney and try to get a copy of the report.

I don't know about Georgia, but I would sue his ass here in Tennessee!!! He should seek out the advice of a good civil trial lawyer..... I'm sure that he can sue him here anyway, plus he has 2 great witnesses to subpoena to Court.

What a bunch of bullshit!!!

terrible Jack! Sorry for the loss.

taoist is right here; I hear/read about guys on the hunting forums losing dogs to idiots like this, and you can sue, and you can win. Mike Vick should make it pretty easy to find a sympathetic jury. That doesn't bring the dog back, of course, but it's something.

Actually, had a similar situation happen to a friend of mine here. He did indeed sue the farmer and the law officers for letting him carry a loaded weapon. However, the kick here was that they crossed a farm to market roadway in getting to said area where dog was shot in order to confront whom they thought were hunters rather than a guy walking his dog in the country. The key was the roadway howver, something about him carrying the firearm acroos public property which removed his right to carry as he wasn't licensed to carry a concealed. I know it doesn't help much, but lets be honest, I rarely do.

I do wish your brother my sincere regrets on his loss. Very difficult situation, sorry for your family loss.

Do me a favor and delete this ****ing thread. I can't even stand to see it.

Give me the cack suckers address, I will fix him.

Man Jack... I am trying to put myself in that position if it happened to my dog and I have no idea what I would do. After I read this, I am sitting here speechless.

2 cops carrying guns... and then a damn farmer carrying a 12 guage? This surely isn't protocol.

I know your brother can't even think about a lawsuit now, but in the long run it might make him feel a "little" better about this whole situation.

Of course his defense will be "self defense." Thats when the 2 cops come in.

This whole ordeal is crazy. Some people are just stupid. You can tell when a dog is going to bite you or come up and lick you... so that is no excuse.

AND... if the dog DID attack him... there are two cops there with guns....

SO POINTLESS AND SENSELESS.

Im not defending the farmer but we really don't know the whole story. What if this farmer had been harassed for years by people being on his property and Jacks brother happen to be there when this guy had had enough? Just the wrong place at the wrong time. I have heard of farmers constantly chasing people off of their property and some times the people want to fight the farmer because they want to stay on his land. Like others have said why in the world would this guy be able to carry a gun when there is cops available unless the cops were his friends. I think a lawsuit would be useless. This guy can make up a million stories on why he panicked. Heck look at Bobby Knight a couple of months ago. Sounded like that farmer wanted to blast him.

I was thinking of this too... but it doesn't matter what in the hell has been going on... cops don't allow a citizen, especially an angry citizen, albeit a farmer, to carry a loaded weapon while responding to a call.

Think of the endless analogies that can go with this scenario. Police do not allow this. Just makes problems (like the one happened here.) Who cares if this farmer was pissed that people were trespassing on his land and ponds, he can't go around shooting (or toting a shotgun shooting a pet to retaliate).

Just like the gun toting texan that shot the 2 burglars. Of course this scenario is totally different... but you can't go around shooting.

BUT, then again he REALLY felt threatened. Who knows....

This story is just so unfortunate... i guess the moral of the story is... don't trespass..... :nono:

If that was my dog, I would've snapped. Dead farmer, and me in jail. EYE FOR AN EYE SUCKA !!!
Sue the prick for everything he has, which probably isn't much 'cuz he's a farmer, take his farm at least ,which I guess has a great fishing river on it, and when you see that fuker living in dumpster in some dark alley, put a bullet in his head.............. still doesn't bring your dog back, or even help with any of the pain, but at least you'd make him pay... Okay the bullet in the head is a little too far, but sue the prick..... In Canada he'd be in jail for 2-5.....
