a friend of mine is sony dealer and he was just over measuring my wall to see which tv will work best. i am opting for a 60 inch 'grand wega' model kds 60-a2000. it is a rear projection hdtv. he has the 70inch but my space is too small for it. anyone familiar with this model?

Have small room, so 32" lcd is what I got, Really no problem, sometimes in NASCAR will get the "ghosting" effect, but if necessary the tv can travel w/me it's so light. Have the samsung 32-51D, a solid TV. Got it open box, and still came w/the warranty. They had the Sonly Bravia high end 32 lcd open, and almost got it, but there were visible scratches on the front. Plasmas have come down so much, so really no reason not to get one, just were a little higher than I wanted to spend at the time.

I bought a 42' Panosonic plasma in July, and the only thing I can say is its awesome. Plasma is the best for sports, movies and anything with alot of action. While you are at it spend another grand and get surround sound from Bose. Feels like you are at a theatre.

IMHO - there is no better large screen TV out there than Sony SXRD technology....most of the home theater magazines agree, as the SXRD in 2006 was voted product of the year for most of them....

I've got the 60" SXRD from Sony - nothing else touches it....IMHO

I just bought a Toshiba 62hm196 dlp 1080p it was the highest rated rear projection on consumer report. I have comcast cable and they can not support tha high of a signal. The T.V. is works great. I bought it at TigerDirect.com $1899 They are localed in chicago so I picked mind up.They canl ship it to you to. Best Buy and Costo wanted $2499. I will be getting direct tv soon. I love the T.V. and the rear projection was cheaper.I am mounting in the corner of my family room so depth size did not matter to me. I would just recommend that you get a 1080p T.V. because you will be ahead of the signals being transmitted and when the cable/directtv companies catch up you will have a T.V. that can handle the signal.

Good points, SportsNut.

Definitely go with a 1080p TV. It is critical, however, to ensure that the inputs of the TV (typically HDMI) will allow a 1080p input.

Whille this is not important for TV broadcasting (no provider outputs 1080p currently and it is very, very doubtful that they will in the next 5 years or so, if ever), it will come in handy for Playstation 3 and/or Blue Ray or HD DVD devices, as they can and do output 1080p (which means your TV needs to be able to accept it as input via HDMI).

Be careful with the Toshiba models. The one mentioned by SportsNut will display 1080p via it's internal scaler, but does not accept a pure 1080p singal to be input. Sounds confusing - and it is - but if the input (typically HDMI) can't accept the full 1080p that is input (currently only Hi Def DVD and Playstation 3) you will be losing part of the sharpness of the picture that you could be seeing. I would not buy a new HDTV unless I knew it could accept a 1080p input via HDMI.

I have heard good things about the Toshiba TV's. Many of them are good values. However, I prefer the SXRD technology by Sony by quite a large margin.

In addition, be careful with the Consumer Reports info on the HDTV's. In the writeup they did, they included the older Sony models, and did not include the newer SXRD's, which have been out since 2005. I'm not sure why they didn't use the newer models from Sony instead of the older models, but I'm confident if they did include the SXRD's, the Sony's would have won hands down.

The Sony SXRD wins all the other home theater "product of the year" awards - I don't know why consumer reports would be any different.

IMHO.

Mags the Toshibia has an hdmi hook up and that is what I am using. I looked at a lot of T.V. and for the price thought it was the best I seen but I am sure there better out there if you want to pay more.

Hey, no problem. The main thing is that you are happy with your TV.

TV's are a lot like women. There are a lot of good ones out there, but the key is to find one that you think looks good. Doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. Beauty (TV) is in the eye of the beholder.

You can record TV via HD Tivo or DVR.. but I'm guessing you know that already.

I think you're asking how you can be able to record HD and be able to burn it to a DVD disk or save it to a computer?

As you know, HD DVD's have just come out - Blue Ray and HD DVD. I'm not aware of a HD DVD recorder as of yet.

My guess is you won't see them - the broadcast industry doesn't want people to be able to make DVD's from HD broadcasts, as since the recording is pristine, they feel people will be bootlegging recordings left and right.

To my knowledge, only SD can be burned to DVD's at this time.

However, I do know that there are ways to record HD onto your computer - and there may be a way to write those to a HD DVD drive. But that is an area I don't know very well, so I'm the wrong person to ask about that.

Hope this helps.
