Sapp was a big ass in college at UM (among many) and a bigger ass in the pros.
Even his parents know it............they didn't even have enough sense to change his/their name

England, u.k.
I have just viewed the hit again by Sapp. I dont know the width of the playing area but he is by the hash marks denoting yards nearest to where the play is taking place. The whistle blows to call the play dead 3 seconds after the hit.
Question 1. How quick to run from spot where hit took place to sideline?
Question 2. Is Sapp supposed to know that the whistle will be blown before he catches up with the play?

IF IT'S LEGAL, IT'S FAIR.

Enough said. When a player breaks the rules that's the time to let rip, otherwise back off.

Still say that he should be fined for his antics on the sideline after he was aware of the damage he caused. Not for the hit, but for his laughing and gloating which was still going on some 2 minutes after the play had ended.

Right Here
It was a friggin cheap shot, plain and simple. He hit the guy in the facemask with his helmet forty yards away from the play.

Sapp is a THUG. He has no class, period. Sherman was just pointing this out to him.

I guarantee you if a Packer had done the same thing Gruden probably wouldn't have waited till after the game to inform him of this!!

Heaven, oh!!, this isn't it?!
Ok, I can't stand this anymore, I have to get this off my chest. Back and forth, Cheap versus Legal. You know damn well this goes beyond the "normal" contact that occurs during a game. Sometimes it is difficult to determine what is "normal", and sometimes it is very easy. LIKE THIS!!!!
He frickin clocked the guy with a blind sider full speed when it did not matter! I dont give a sh*t if it was legal!
I can only hope that things work out so Tampa has to meet Green Bay in the playoffs back at Lambeau Field. What do you guys think the Packer players are seeing on the tape? I will tell you right now one guy who will make this an issue is Frank Winters. He is probably in his last year so it wont matter, but they will take this out on Sapps fat ass knees on a counter or trap play that will be designed for exactly that! It doesn?t surprise me he is from Miami.
Chad Clifton is done, PERIOD. He will never play the game again!! Don?t listen to that crap about what Al Michael?s said. The nerve damage in that area that he has sustained would make it very difficult for him to play again. Two different doctors have told me this today. One of them knows the team?s doctors.
Sapp is an animal, and should be treated as such. He is a disgrace to our society and the sportsmanship that we try to teach our kids.
I have played this game along with other contact sports, and there is an unwritten code that says "what goes around comes around". And Sapp will get his. Along with Moss, Owens and the other JERK-OFFs that think this is their stage to act any way they see fit.
I can only hope the league puts an end to this!

So Cal
I haven't really seen anyone defend Sapp in any way. If you re-read my post you will clearly see what my feelings are. I think it is unanimous that the guy has always been and will continue to be a crude, loud-mouthed, no class thug. The fact that the hit was legal in no way excuses him for his sideline behavior, nor can anyone point to the fact that it was necessary to level the guy. You can't legislate class or morals and expect people to follow the ethical path. Sapp never has nor will he ever conform to what most of us consider ethical. In fact, his only defense is that according to NFL rules, there was no violation. Maybe the rules should be reviewed, but in a game already cluttered with nonsensical rules and regulations, I can't see that as an answer. Football is a microcosm of society as a whole...and there will always be people like Warren Sapp walking among us. We can only hope that some form of poetic justice finds him in the future.

WOW!

WOW!

I can't believe how my thread has grown....I knew that what Sapp did was a terrible injustice - but I'm proud of how many MJ'ers can see how wrong (even though technically legal) this was....

And I can certainly respect other people having a difference of opinion....that is one of the things that makes this world great :D

However, Sapp got off with nothing from the NFL....which to me was a joke....

Think of it this way - let's say Sapp would have done that exact same cheap shot to another non quarterback (cuz we all know that if he hit a quarterback that way, he'd be banned for life)..

What if, instead of a relatively unknown to the public offensive tackle named Chad Clifton, what if he'd have done the same thing to:

Jerry Rice, Emmitt Smith, Randy Moss (yea, that might be ok :D), or Marshall Faulk...

I'll bet if it was a high profile guy - Sapp would be suspended for the rest of the year, maybe longer... The public would be all over this (and they may be already - it's hard to gauge cuz I live in Wisconsin, so the news is obviously biased)...

It is a sad commentary on the NFL's part - cuz we know there would be a severe penalty if Sapp did it to Jerry Rice - basically the NFL is saying Clifton's life and career just isn't as important as a headline player...

Well, I doubt Chad Clifton and his family feel that Chad's career isn't as important....

Back 40 years ago players and not just from the team the cheep shot was done to. Well they had a way of letting a player know he was wrong. They would keep hitten one him even if 20 yards away from the play. Many good o boy chop blocks. This still could happen. The thing that was so dumb was Sapp could have hurt himself and for what. It's just dumb football so you can stand on the side line and high five. When the other player is laying on the field not moving. Sapp is just a dumb Fu??. And all pro at that. Bet many all pros don't want him called that at this time.
And your right if that had been a QB. 20.000 grand and at least two games.

Now it's Sapp's turn

Now it's Sapp's turn

OK, I said I wouldn't say anything until it's Sapp's turn. I just heard on ESPNEWS that the Packers OL Coach has publicly announced that Sapp is a wanted man, apparently the players and coaches do NOT share in the view of those here who 'have played the game' that this was just another hard hit. Apparently the league office frowns on this type of statement as they have threatened 'severe sanctions' for any assistant coach who makes any further comments about this matter, which is fine because the cat's already out of the bag. While acknowledging that the hit 'was legal' (as many here have pointed out) this coach also mentioned that there are lots of 'legal' things they can do while Sapp is on the field that Warren may not find to his liking. Something to the effect that they 'will cut him every play'.

So, when Warren Sapp is carried off the field as a result of a 'legal hit' I hope that all his supporters here at MJs are consistent - and I hope that the league office is consistent as well and doesn't hand out any fines - any I hope (assuming Sapp is able to talk) that he says 'what's the problem here? It was a legal hit. No flags. What's the problem?' And I really hope that the Green Bay players yuk it up on the sideline as Warren is being toted off on a stretcher. I know that I, for one, will watch that game from beginning to end waiting for some payback. And I hope Brett Favre throws one right into Warren's ugly face and quits playing patty-cake with Sapp.

I wonder if any books will be putting up some props on this? Will Sapp finish the game (+200)? Will Sapp make it to halftime (pk)? Will Sapp whine and cry foul when the game is over and he's in the hospital (-2500)? Will Sherman send flowers (+5000)?

Hey Warren :thefinger the boys in Green Bay have a few things they would like to discuss with you :moon: . Be sure and pack enough clothes for a couple of weeks when you come to Lambeau.

Beightol: Pack won't cut Sapp any more slack

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ESPN.com news services

Packers offensive line coach Larry Beightol agreed that Warren Sapp did not break any NFL rules with his hit on Chad Clifton on Sunday. Beightol, however, was livid about the hit and believes it was unnecessary.

? When we see him again, we'll see how that dog fares. We'll cut him every single time. I want him to know that. ?
? Larry Beightol, Packers' offensive line coach

And Beightol went a step further, saying that when the Packers play the Buccaneers again, they will retaliate against Sapp -- in a legal manner.

Sapp made an aggressive -- and legal -- hit on Clifton during an interception return in Sunday's game. Clifton, a standout left tackle, will miss the rest of the season and may have spinal damage. The NFL declined to discipline Sapp, ruling the hit was within the rules. After the game, Packers coach Mike Sherman confronted Sapp about the hit, and the two had to be separated. The Bucs won the game 21-7.

Beightol says he called Bucs defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin to let him know how upset he was -- and still is -- with Sapp's hit.

"It's not a cheap shot, but there has to be something where these players look out for each other," Beightol told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on Monday. "There will be other games. There will be other times. Like the saying goes, every dog has his day. We'll see about him.

"Everyone is fair game. When we see him again, we'll see how that dog fares. We'll cut him every single time. I want him to know that."

Beightol said in the past he told his linemen to block Sapp up high and avoid high-risk cut blocks that could lead to injury. He said that went out the window when Sapp hit Clifton in what he considered an unnecessary play.

"There's no need for that," Beightol told the newspaper. "If he's a big, tough, hard-nosed guy, then mix it up in the trenches. I told Monte that we didn't cut him because we didn't want to ruin their season. If we play them again, he's fair game. Somewhere we'll see him."

The Packers and Bucs are not scheduled to meet again during the regular season. However, they may very well square off in the playoffs.

I can see on the Thursday going over the game plan when the Asst. Coach stands up and says "...and one more thing, make sure we hit Sapp high."

What a crock of bs. The guy was knocked out for 15 minutes why Sapp was yucking it up (which is the part that I think that Sapp was out of line) Do you think that they didn't show the replays on the big screen of the hit then?

The coaches can talk all the tough talk that they want. They had an opportunity for retaliation and they didn't do anything about it on the field when they had the chance. If a team is a reflection of their coaching staff and take the persona of their QB, then Sapp will be just fine.

Give me a break!! If they want to set a bounty for Sapp that is great. Just be sure that SAPP won't be asleep on the field like that ham and egger from Greenbay. He got hurt most of all because he let his guard down on the FOOTBALL FIELD 3 SECONDS BEFORE THE WHISTLE BLEW!!!! Who taght him that?Who does that coach think he is BUDDY Ryan?????
The next time these two teams play and Farve throws three or four more int's, he better run his ass out of bounds because he will be a marked man himself.

This is just plain stupid.

My 2 cents, FWIW.

There is no way in HELL , Clifton was going to get NEAR that play. All Sapp had to do was push him down. He intentionally pulvarized him and quite possible ended his career.

We get T.Bay this Sunday night in the dome. It will be interesting to see if any Green Bay players KNOW any Saints players, if you get my meaning.

All it will take is a clip to Sapp's knee and he's gone. That is how easy it is in the NFL to put someone out of the game. Sapp knows that and shouldn't have taken the cheap shot::nono:

You got that right gardenweasel

You got that right gardenweasel

One point I think needs to made here is that cold-cocking someone from their blindside, like Sapp did to Clifton, when it has nothing to do with the outcome of the play is not 'being a man', it's being a thug. It's being a bully who picks on people who can't defend themselves. It's going bug-eyed on a man who is 25 years your senior and threatening to 'whip his ass' knowing full well that Sherman would stand no chance in a physical contest. But that, it appears, is the current definition of 'being a man' amongst the hip-hop generation, I see it all the time amongst young people now. I call it chicken sh*t.

Sherman is the stand up guy in this scenario because he went after Sapp, verbally, knowing full well that this idiot may go crazy and started pounding on him and knowing full well that if that happens he doesn't stand a chance. That, my friends, is true courage. Sherman stood up for his player and rightfully so. And Coach Beightol is a stand up guy for at least warning Sapp that they're hunting for him - that's more of a chance than Sapp gave Clifton.

One thing that stands out to me is that Sapp has no honor in this affair. And that is something that is sadly disappearing from sports in general, one of the factors that has always made sports great and such a large part of our lives. If Sapp were an honorable man he would publicly apologize to Clifton for the damage he has caused - it would take a 'real man' to do that and I doubt seriously if Sapp has it in him.

Skinar, Well put!! I think that we all know what Sapp has in him and we have an opinion as to what we would like to see in him as well as what we would like to see him in!!

Money and fame drive this group of out of control NFL'ers and that's where changes can be made. Zero camera time for the Sapps of the world. No props from the sportscasters, probation, and game suspensions. I wish I knew how to have a positive impact from this end to get our thoughts delivered to the NFL and their advertisers.

Keep it Positive, Topdog

There is no way in hell that Sapp was going to fight Sherman. It just isn't true. If someone gets in your face you back them down and thats all that Sapp did. How many time have you had an old ********** get in your grill and absolutely know how to push your buttons. All Sapp was doing was backing him down.Sherman is no ****ing hero for saying a few choice words to another individual in the NFL. This issue is ****in bullshit and if your a Bucs fan you have to be rather excited about it, To see this kind of KILLER instinct on a team is rare and it is coming at the right time of the year for them. It is to bad it has come at the expense of Clifton.. If the Pack is thinkin about revenge they had better think again, the Bucs are more than one man ( Warren Sapp)and they hit a LOT HARDER than the PACK. If you think Warrens team mates sit idly by while the pack executes thier revenge you are sadly mistaken.

Good luck to everyone this weekend

Thanks for the inside info Frank, that's a relief. I mean, judging from the constant barrage of 'F*CK YOU', LET'S GO, the bugging eyes and the slobber that was blasting out of his mouth I couldn't tell that Sapp was acting. He really should consider getting into the movies because he sure had me fooled.

By the way, old ****** generally don't get in a young man's face unless the young man has been acting like a fool. Since I have become an old ****** myself I have discovered that there are some young men who have nothing going for them except strength and a healthy disrespect for the world about them and that they need a strong dose of the verbal whip from time to time. I've even had a few take a run at me personally but they're the same type of people who would beat up a small woman who p*ssed them off.

Nah, make no doubt about it, what Sherman did took a lot of guts. What Sapp did was an act of cowardice and I hope that some of his own teammates recognize that fact and momentarily look the other way when Sapp gets his just rewards. I hope there's not another NFL player who can watch the video of Sapp ending Clifton's career and stand there and say it was justified and that he would support that kind of play. If they do, they're cowards and thugs just like Sapp and all the people who support him.

A Thug??

A Thug??

I am so sick of the Packer fans who are always crying when one of their guys gets his ass kicked.
Brett Favre hits a guy who is 5 yards out of bounds and all that is said is he was "frustrated".The league actually did hand down a fine on this "thug".
I can almost guarantee that when Warren hit this guy he thought he had just delivered a hell of a hit ,( How would he know about internal injuries,) therefore the cause of the celebration.
The only thing wrong with that hit was the guy got hurt.
Ray Lewis puts a hit on a Denver Bronco player and since the player got up it was a great hit.
The great thing about this is it only adds fuel to a great rivalry..

But all Smack aside , My prayers are with this player and hope he has a full recovery and is back playing next season.

See ya in the playoffs Packers.....
