"It's hard for me to tell you how much this means to me. I've lived for this place, and I've lived for people like you guys and girls, and I'm just so happy to see that you could feel so strongly about us and about your school. The kids that were victims or whatever they want to say, I think we all ought to say a prayer for them. Tough life, when people do certain things to you. Anyway, you've been great. Everything's great, all right."

It sounds to me like they are going forward with the football game(s). Yesterday was practice as usual, his son made a statement that the BOT have not contacted Joe about stepping down or anything, the fans there seem to be backing coach and it's senior day.

It will be interesting, to say the least, to watch how the game plays out and the reactions of people attending the game on Saturday.

Wow!

Makes no sense. If he is stepping down because of this then obviously he should step down immediately. Penn St. University just made itself look even worse if thats possible..

Fucking disgraceful Jack. I finally got my blog faxed through to the athletic dept. late last night and to 10 different newspapers. One of the writers called me and said that he was going to try to get me on sports radio up there today. I told Bart I would record it if that happens.

This is one of those "let the process play out" guys, so it could be very entertaining. As you know, patience is not one of my strongest virtues.:argue:

Shut the fuck up paterno. The Board of Trustees do not have to spend another minute on my status because I'm retiring at the end of the season.
Asshole, you're done. Fuck you. No fucking way he should be on the field Saturday. Fuck you you egomanic piece of dog shit.

I'm all for Paterno getting the shower treatment from his ex coach and I'll say a prayer for you ...fucking asshole. Had all the power to shut this shit down and yet did not. Guilty son of a bitch.

Not only was what happened sickening, but the Penn State response has been atrocious. It's no wonder they swept this under the rug.

But their response only reaffirms what this shows everyone. At Penn State, school name and reputation is greater than anything, including the welfare of children.

No response yet from the president? JoePa? Fucking despicable.

And of course they are taking the easy way out. He's retiring at the end of the season. How predictable. But just like he took the easy way out when these crimes were reported to him, he's doing the same name. He's more worried about his own legacy and leaving on his own terms than doing what is right. And the fact that the BOT is not forcing him to stand down is shameful.

That man being in the stadium ever again is a slap in the face to ever victim of these crimes and their families.

Penn State you are a piece of slime.

Joe announced he will step down and the BOT should not spend another minute talking about it.

Another example of how JP thinks that the college answers to him and not the other way around.

I will be interested to see if the BOT has a collective set of balls and stands up to him and says that you will not coach and the team will not play. Tell JP that he will not have access to the football facilities and it will be enforced.

You can't punish the players because of a coach's mistake. Absolutely he should step down though.

I am absolutely devastated by the developments in this case. I grieve for the children and their families, and I pray for their comfort and relief," Paterno said in a statement released just after initial reports confirming his pending retirement.

Joe Paterno will not walk Penn State's sideline again after this season. The Nittany Lions play their final 2011 home game Saturday vs. Nebraska.
"I have come to work every day for the last 61 years with one clear goal in mind: To serve the best interests of this university and the young men who have been entrusted to my care. I have the same goal today.

"That's why I have decided to announce my retirement effective at the end of this season. At this moment the Board of Trustees should not spend a single minute discussing my status. They have far more important matters to address. I want to make this as easy for them as I possibly can.

"This is a tragedy. It is one of the great sorrows of my life. With the benefit of hindsight, I wish I had done more. My goals now are to keep my commitments to my players and staff and finish the season with dignity and determination. And then I will spend the rest of my life doing everything I can to help this university."

is this meglomaniac old fuck serious......"dont spend more time on me, i'll retire after i coach a few more games and attend a bowl game and go out with some pomp and circumstance"

oh, and hindsight is great now, 10 years later, after you've talked and bullshited everyone about morality and doing the right thing for 61 years...this wasnt some friend/coach who was stealing money or illegially retruiting players, etc, he was raping children in your locker room and you KNEW.....and told your boss who you knew would do the minimun and keep it quiet and clean.

fuck off you old bag of bullshit and those sick fuck students and "fans" cheering you on should all sit at your fucking 100k stadium as the kids and families of those tormented by sandusky tell them how their lives are ruined and fucked up and wish somebody would have done something.....then lets see them cheer for that old fuck and chant "beat nebraska"

The Trustees were hoping for this, so that they wouldn't catch flack for forcing him out by some die-hard Penn State supporters that would inevitably stand by Paterno. However, that slip up of Paterno not telling them to waste another minute, and the fact that he intends to coach all remaining games, may still result in them taking some sort of action.

The whole football program should be given the death penalty and Paterno should spend the rest of his short life in jail.

Of course none of this will happen because the NCAA is more concerned with tattoos then child rape. You gotta have priorities.

And it would be nice if they would even fake being concerned about all the kids they ruined.
